U.F.O. Notes:

The EHV23:
The Estrella Halley v.23 or "EHV23" is a U.F.O. like aircraft with about the same manoeuvrability as you would expect from a U.F.O.
(And yes, this really is version 23)

Ufo Controls:

The top player:
has more controll over steering/boosting/lifting power.
Has little room to walk left/right to tilt UFO for horizontal flight.
Just a small tap on the grab will move the UFO (if p2 activates hover).
So with a few taps on the grab you will be able to move the UFO where you want it to go, as slow or as fast as you want, though you can also hold it down and move quite fast.
If p1 jumps while UFO is tilted it will reduce tiltedness (unless overabused)

The bottom player controlls the hover function of the UFO.
If done well, you can actually hover at any location, need top player to counter tilt/decrease height.
Can lower ufo by quick-releasing Hover grab switch.
Can boost up horizontal flight by releasing hover for a small second so UFO gets more speed as its "falling".
If UFO falls upside down, P2 will auto-activate UFO recovery, making ufo rotate into stable flying position.
If p2 Jumps when in flight, it will activate emergency speedbreak that will cancel out upward vertical movement. (more advanced difficulty to master though).

Tractor Beam:
Tractorbeam will is activated when near Cattle and satallites, does what you expect it to do.

Other UFO related things:
Very manouverable when you get the hang of it, and are playing with a friend (without lag).
You should be able to land on a 3 big grid horizontal platform with some ease after some practicing.
You should be able to fly trough narrow hallways if you put in some good teamwork.
Players are not able to jump out while inflight.

You "phone home" to recieve a new UFO when you die/lose it.

Get your wings and earn your pilots license in this V.R. Flight school.

Difficulty: Medium/Hard depending on how well you work together
Build time of level: about 1 week (U.F.O. has been 2 months of work)
Average playtime: Between 5 minutes and 20 minutes..

This is a V.R. training level that teaches you the basics of piloting the EHV23. Progress through the various flight tests to earn points as well as your license to fly the EHV23 in the 2-Player-EHV23-U.F.O.-Earth-Explorers (https://lbpcentral.lbp-hub.com/index.php?t=27192-2-Player-EHV23-U.F.O.-Earth-Explorers) level.

Special thanks go out to Fredrik for planting the seed,
He was flying by in a ufo like vehicle and that convinced us to create our own version of the U.F.O.
Furthermore thanks to Ajnknox, Stimpy, Damaz, Verrot and others for testing the level.

An awesome tutorial to access the ''real'' level. I have to say, though. The hovering part was a bit hard when 2 player, and I found it easier when doing that part solo.2010-05-19 07:18:00

Hi-

I'm reviewing this as I play, just to make things easier. First off, I really love the material choice. It has a interesting futuristic look to it. I also like the alien character, it's one of the coolest characters I've seen in a while. Flying the UFO is a little tough at first, but it quickly becomes fun. Telephoning another UFO is a really cool idea. I actually played this with one player, but I still managed to play it. Abducting the cow was really tough, I even tried with two players for a little while, but I got it with one player after after trying for about 20 minutes. I just finished, it was really worth the play still. I had a lot of fun playing. Now I'm going to play the next part for this.

I rated it :star::star::star::star::star: and <3ed it.

Thanks for playing and I'm glad you enjoyed it. There is a bit of a learning curve to flying and the controlled hover is the hardest to master. Even with the curve I still l feel it's a lot of fun to fly.

Thanks for the positive comments,

First, I wanna' say that I enjoyed flying the ship. Just wanted to get that out of the way before I started my rant.

I didn't enjoy this level all that much. I suppose it makes sense that there's a lot of word bubbles, 'cuz it's a tutorial, but man...... there was a LOT of word bubbles. And they were the cutscene camera ones that interrupt whatever you're doing. And they were timed really far apart so that they would always pop up after I'd already started flying.

Also, the level design seemed pretty good, but I personally find VR material ugly... especially when the whole level is made out of it.

Thanks for playing and sorry you didn't enjoy it. I am not sure why a "rant" was required but oh well. Yes there are quite a lot of speech bubbles but as you have already said it is a tutorial level intended to teach you the controls and how to fly. As for the choice of materials, it's a VR training level so the VR materials to me were the ideal choice.

Sorry again that you didn't enjoy it. Perhaps you will like my/our next levels more.

Thanks again for playing,

Very dissapointed. Me and my brother worked forever to beat this level, it was really hard, but once we collected the cow, and the other two things, activated all the beacons. Nothing happened. We had no idea what we were doing. We were flying arround the map for along time looking for what we were to do next. Couldn't Finish it. What a Shame, It's stupid that the other level is locked, cause I'll never complete this one.

I highly recommend you unlock the other level. I noticed only 19 people completed your training level, which means only 19 people were able to get the license to play the other one. No point in locking it.

Sure, but ..... it was a LOT of speech bubbles, and they kept interrupting me when I was trying to fly. Personally, I always make the explanation part of my tutorials skippable, and in my most recent (https://lbpcentral.lbp-hub.com/index.php?t=27374-Most-Advanced-Bipedal-Mech-in-LBP-VT-5-Lightning), I listed the controls in the level description and then printed them all up in a short font-based title sequence that the player can exit as soon as they want to. I make the tutorials as short and skippable as possible because a lot of players are impatient, and/or they'll be playing the level a second time and don't wanna' read all the bubbles again.

I suppose. Why do training levels have to be VR, though? You can be trained just as well in good looking scenery as you can in ugly scenery. Ah well, I suppose that's just a matter of personal taste. Again, great ship: I had a lot of fun flying it (between cursing at the speech bubbles) and that was with only getting half the experience since I didn't have a second player with me at the time.

I do really think you and Luos should just unlock the second level, though.

Sehven,
if you dont like the VR , thats your personal opinion,
no point having that conversation.
They wont play this level more than once probably as the second level gives you much much more freedom.
If you had some patience you could have enjoyed it.

Couldn't Finish it. What a Shame, It's stupid that the other level is locked, cause I'll never complete this one.

We created the drivers license level to keep certain people out, i.e. the people who would not appreciate or are able to play a level like Earth Explorers.
If you cannot complete the license level, then you will most certainly not finish the second level.

So far, the license level is doing its job,
keeping the right people out.

Thanks for trying though,
too bad you are not able to make it to the end.

I didn't make it to the end because of poor instructions, not because I wasn't good enough. I've done everything in the level and nothing happened.

I assume you are speaking of the last room which looks like a dessert simulation. If you have collected the cow, as well as the beacons and the various samples a text message will appear with congratulations and a full third of the floor in that room disappears and you simply fly down to claim your license and cross the scoreboard. There is even one of those much hated cut-scene messages that shows the hole in the floor and explains that you should fly through it to finish.

I can't speak for your play through obviously but I myself have never experienced that not working correctly. Just to be sure I played through again before I posted and it all functioned properly.

I do appreciate you giving the level a try and am sorry you had a bad experience with it. I would suggest another play through if you are up to it, but also understand completely if you decide not to. As I have said before thanks for playing it and perhaps you will enjoy my/our next levels more.

Sorry and thanks again,

Yeah, no floor opened. Nothing happened. Unless, I didn't claim every item? How many items were there? How many beacons? Anywho, I'd love to play to the level again, it was really fun, but it took me and my bro an hour to play. I really want to play the second one. DXX2010-05-24 22:49:00

There is the first beacon that triggers that rooms instruction text, a second beacon, and one each of the cow, ore, and flower.

That first run through is alway the worst. A lot of people I have talked to actually found the single player controls easier to master in the beginning. The craft isn't nearly as agile but that same sluggishness in the controls help to compensate for a newer pilots tendency to over steer and over correct.

An hour seems like a long time but I have been flying the craft for quite some time now and it's hard to judge personally. I can say that with practice the level can be completed in about ten minutes, speech bubbles and all.

Thanks again for the interest in the levels and good luck if you try again,

Well we were fooling arround/eating and stuff so it took longer. That's weird because I collected everything and activated all the beacons. Nothing Happened. Oh well.
