They've broken through all our primary defenses and they just keep coming. You are the last hope. Pick your turrets then defend the base from waves of oncoming enemies. How long can you survive? Let the waves begin!
StormWaves is an original tower defense level that I made with a bit of help from my friend Ryulord. The goal is to use the turrets to defend your base for as long as possible. There are 30 waves in total, but after those I created a "Random Mode" in which enemies and the boss spawn randomly. Random mode begins after wave 30. There are a total of 6 enemies: 3 boats, and 2 flying enemies, along with the boss. This level is very, very chaotic and random. If you don't like chaos and randomness you probably won't like this. It is a tad bit difficult in 1 player, but nothing too much, and 4 player is very easy.

The Look of the base has now been greatly improved, and I have updated the Air Mine Launcher and the Rocket Tower so that they are both much better.

I have reviewed your level and I thought I trained which is another way to make a survival and although I very much agree with them that I've wanted. The only problem is that issuers would have left visible as this makes it look a little dirty work, but everything else you have a good idea.

Anyways, on to your level. I'm not a huge fan of survival levels, just not my thing in LBP.
But this was really cool! Really original idea I don't think I've seen in LBP before.
Liked the idea of having different options about starting out your defense.
To describe the level in one word, it would have to be chaotic like you allready said yourself.
I played it on my own and not before long I was jumping around in a swish cheese with only the gun at the spawn point left.
So I didn't get that far, but really had fun seeing my base crumble down
Only bad thing I found about the level is the way it looks. Not just the base itself, but the way down there would be cool if it had some sort of decoration perhaps?

I really don't understand what you're saying... If you or someone else could interpret this it'd be great... (I'll still do F4F for you obviously though)

To address the issue of <3ing this level, If you heart this and want to play it again, I'm going to delete and publish this fresh in about 2 weeks (probably) so you'll have to re-search it and <3 it again. Again, sorry for the inconvenience.

Nice minigame. The level has a lot chaotic explosives but I enjoy the fact that I need to protect the base to get more and more points. The level could use more polishing but it's a lot of fun.2010-05-20 00:31:00

To all it may concern (new people or people who already posted):
I realize that this level is not decorated very well, and since I'm really horrible at decorating stuff in LBP, I was wondering if some people could give me some specific ideas on how to decorate it with minimal thermometer use because I already have barely any left even after exploiting a thermometer "trick". Also, decorations don't work on any destructible surface. I really appreciate this, thanks.

Wow. What a really cool level!
I was a little skeptical of this because I had to play a (gasp) bomb survival to get the key, but it was really cool.

Pros
-All the tower options, I only had time to play it once, but it would be cool to play it again with a different tower
-Different enemies
-Boss after level 20 was awesome, though he pretty much dominated me.

Cons
-Intro was long, and kinda meh. It didn't really have much to do with the level.
-I think it could have used a background, maybe POTC would fit in with the tropical theme?
-Icon looked kinda sloppy, but that's nitpicky.

5 stars, and I'll heart it when you publish it again.

Oh, and also, the third (I think?) speech bubble in the in-game tutorial was censored. Just a heads up.

Getting to this level is probably harder than building it....well, maybe not that hard, but anyways. I thought it was StormWinds, but after playing through that, i come back to the thread to read the little notice up on top and than i spent another 10 or 15mins looking for where exactly i had to plant that sticker....

Anyways, poped in, i think the tutorial is a little on the long side, i just wanted to get to the good part already, but that might just be me. Setup my base, first enemy that came took out the Rapid-Fire Paint Turret or whatever it was called i had chosen for the middle tower. Okaaaay, i figure i can survive, at least for a while, with the Rocket Tower i had placed up on top, i go to position that with the switch and it gets in an awkward position, facing up and effectively blocked the lever.....so i'm pretty much left with the paintinator after which i eventually get bored and quit.


The level is pretty cool, but needs work, mostly in the positioning of the cannons and turrets. I might check it out again at some later point, but it definetly needs a little bit of polish.

3 Stars/Not Hearted.

Played through this last night with Claptonfann and from a strategy point of view it's really an interesting idea. I liked that you could change your defenses in the initial set up to be custom and your variety was pretty cool too. The balloon guys assaulting the base are pretty varied too so that was nice to see. When playing it, it feels like a much more sophisticated kind of bomb survival - I don't mean that in a bad way. So yea, lots of cool stuff going on in this level.

As for suggestions.

You already know about the visuals so I won't hammer that point home again.

The length can be rather marathonish. Claptonn and I managed to survivie for about 35 minutes, which had my fingers aching from all the paintinator firing. I'd suggest ramping up the difficulty a little faster and a little more. Anything around 10 minutes would be good I think but as it is now it's really long before you get taken out.

About being taken out. We managed to get the base blown up and discovered - sadly - that in the blast one of the defense turrets had become jammed in the chute to leave the level. Since the Dark Matter shields had come down there was no way to blow it up and most of the turret was metal anyway so we couldn't finish the level. You may want to change the setup on the exit so it can't be blocked? or set up a sticker that activates the checkpoint at the scoreboard and have the players "pop"? Not sure which would be best but as it was we couldn't get to the board.

Entertaining level though. Enjoyed playing it!

As for adding decoration - if you stick to the regular decorations - they and stickers have their own thermo so depending on which thermo is maxed (complex shapes, collected objects, moving parts... check out the comprehensive thermo guide for more info on this) you can add a ton of decoration without it affecting thermo. make a shape and just start adding a ton of different decorations/stickers to test if this is the case. I bet it is. Good Luck!

Not to be mean or critical at all but you played the wrong level... (I can tell because StormWaves doesn't have dark matter shields) Umm... Thanks for the feedback on StormWinds... All of the problems you mentioned don't happen in StormWaves though so that's good

As for Sgt. Phantomizer, I've had the same problem with the rocket turret, I keep putting it off, but I'll go fix that now. Also, I really don't think the level is that hard to get to. (I made sure all my friends could get to it easily, they said they had no problems)

Well, might just be me, i've been doing quite a bit of level reviewing lately and i have the habit of simply jotting down the level name and going to play. So all i did this morning was jot down your level name and leave your thread open on another tab waiting for when i finish the level so i could leave some my comments. It wasn't until i finished playing Stormwinds that i didn't actually READ this thread and said to myself "oh, thats why..." lol

I played it.
Great concept and gameplay, you still have to work on the bugs and scenery though.

Pros:
The gammeplay, very fun.
The multiple options.
The multiplayer aspect.

Cons:
Random electric deaths.
My towers fall in like 2 waves.
Painator is weak against enimies.
Some of the scenery.

It takes some skill and good choices of towers to make your towers live past wave 5 or so... That being said I personally can let my towers last much longer than that. (When you're playing 1 player you really have to be careful with which towers you pick). Also, I don't find the paintinator particularly weak... obviously you can't just hold down R1, you have to mash it, but I can kill most enemies without damage to my base from the "Platform" tower. (Shooting the bombs that they shoot helps too, as it can dismember or kill them.) Lastly, I think I'm going to de-lethalize the electric wires, because I've had the same problem a few times too.2010-05-26 20:59:00

Umm... If the turrets didn't fall over then your base wouldn't be able to get killed... You clearly don't understand the concept...

How do I get so many plays? Republishing... Play level "Republishing 101" to find some ways to get more plays...

Wow... This was one of the most unique levels I've ever played! I'll list the things that worked and the things that need improvements below.

WHAT WORKED WELL:
-Turret variation
-Difficulty depending on player count
-tutorial and how you could chose to skip it
-The choice of music

WHAT NEEDS IMPROVING:
-The level more needs varied enemies. I got tired of looking at similar looking enemies the whole time. Just make some new re-skins with different colors.
-The look of the level still needs improvement. Some lighting changes could do the trick.
-The air enemies, IMO, went too fast.
-The platforms were useless because you could just get a turret and wait for it to die.
-The camera should show more of the battlefield.
-No preview for turrets during selection other than magic mouths. Just make a few boxes with the turret previewing what they can do.

Hope you can narrow down the latter list! Good luck with the level!

I can narrow it down without doing anything... Here's why:

-Would overheat the thermometer, since that doesn't work with my thermometer "trick"

-The look of the level still needs improvement. Some lighting changes could do the trick.
-Can't have lighting changes because of my "Theme Selection". (I could actually, but doing so would overheat the thermometer.)

-The air enemies, IMO, went too fast.
-Their jet is at the lowest speed possible... I can't stop their rapid acceleration.

-The platforms were useless because you could just get a turret and wait for it to die.
-The platforms make your base take less damage. You could do the above, but the platforms are helpful if you're really good with the paintinator.

-The camera should show more of the battlefield.
-It can't. Its the max size, and dealing with what I have, that's the best I can do.

-No preview for turrets during selection other than magic mouths. Just make a few boxes with the turret previewing what they can do.
-This too would overheat the thermometer. Did I mention that I have very little thermometer left? 1 magnetic key or key switch overheats it, and I'd need one of those at least to make that work. However, this is a great idea that I had never thought of before, I will definitely do this with "StormWinds 2".


Sorry to beat down every one of your negative comments, but I can't really fix any of those things without sacrificing something essential. Thanks for the comment though!
