(SPOTLIGHT NOD!) Blue Behemoth Pt. 1

Blue Behemoth Pt. 1BlueBulletBill
Yeah, I'm Blue; and the level's blue. Real funny. Now get to playing! This is my first 'real' (professional) level. This is part one.

Update: Spotlight Nod!
Video here! (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i8ZLDKJFX4g)

Well, it's finally time for me to show off the first level I am truly proud of. Blue Behemoth is a platformer similar to a VelcroJonze level, but with my own touch added to it. This first section was built over the weekend, starting on Friday with just a few final touches added today. I guess I must have channeled exam stress into making the level.

Well, I feel as if I ought to give thanks to the numerous creators who have inspired me. VelcroJonze was probably the biggest inspiration for this level, but many other creators have helped pull me out of creator's block as well: FULLGORR, jackofcourse, Sha-Ja, ali985, and spark151. Thanks so much guys, this level would not have been possible without you. Oh and thanks to Taffey too, for giving me a better name then Blue Blockade.

This is only part one of the full thing by the way. More is coming soon, but I was so proud of what I've done so far that I had to share it.

Oh, this F4F thing? Hmm... how does the first 15 people sound? Thanks to all who play!

Bill, first of all thanks for saying I gave you inspiration for this. You made my day Buddy, and I appreciate it.

I LOVED this level. This is a level that is all about fun. Spawning at the entrance into a line of bubbles is something I always love doing, it just sets the tone of these type levels so well. I loved the hidden bubble emitters hooked to the grab switches that give you a nice chain, and a great reward for exploration. I loved the look of this level. Your choice of materials were so good, and the whole level had a great atmosphere to it. Very cool looking. The layered materials looked awesome. Platforming was a joy. I really liked the platforms that came up over the gas, and then you get to a section where it looks like you have to jump in a hole and there is gas all around and then wham!! Up you go into the curved piece and you land softly on the next platform. But before I could even think of how cool that was, I see bubbles, and off I go for another combo. Fun!! The ending was tough, I got killed a few times on my initial playthrough by the crushers because I didn't look for the pattern, and just plowed through like a bat out of Hades. I finished with a score I wasn't happy with so I go at again. This time I made it through after watching the crushers for a couple seconds and got the ace and a very good score too. I am sure that when the other high score chasers get a hold of this it won't hold up too long (PlayTheNerd, ThisIsInsane, Memorex).

This level did have a VelcroJonze feel to it, and I loved it!!

So this is part one? Well I can't wait to play the rest of it.

You get five stars and a heart, I got you as creator a long time ago.

Don't worry about f4f on this, you have left plenty of feedback on my levels.

Great work Buddy!!

This level is really fantastic. I could really see how VelcroJonze has influenced you, I couldn't tell your levels apart if I tried (this isn't meant to be like you copied him or anything.) I could see your own little flair in this level as well, and I really loved the part where you shoot up into the curved thingamajig. I loved the entirety of this level, it was a blast. I died as well with the crusher things, I misjudged the timing (far too many times, my fault not yours). Sorry to say this is my first B3 level, but I will definitely give the others a try. 5 stars and a heart for you.2010-05-16 22:36:00

Bill, first of all thanks for saying I gave you inspiration for this. You made my day Buddy, and I appreciate it.

Getting a review from you made my day in and of itself.

I LOVED this level. This is a level that is all about fun. Spawning at the entrance into a line of bubbles is something I always love doing, it just sets the tone of these type levels so well..

Oh yes, it's something I felt both made the level fun and captured the feel of your levels.

I loved the look of this level. Your choice of materials were so good, and the whole level had a great atmosphere to it. Very cool looking. The layered materials looked awesome.

Ha, I know. I went through every blue in the materials and after quite a bit of thought finally narrowed it down. I think there's a total of five materials in the level.

Fun!!

One of the things that I love the most is the feeling of non-stop combos throughout the level, it's like one big ride.

I'm glad these presented a challenge - I want a few moments in this where it takes a few tries to beat if you're not careful.

I am sure that when the other high score chasers get a hold of this it won't hold up too long (PlayTheNerd, ThisIsInsane, Memorex).

Ha, I'm always chasing those three on Sha-Ja's leaderboards. Speaking of which, you beat me by a ton on Monster Hunter.

This level did have a VelcroJonze feel to it, and I loved it!!

So this is part one? Well I can't wait to play the rest of it.

You get five stars and a heart, I got you as creator a long time ago.

I'm very glad you didn't view this as a rip-off, and yet recognized the Jonze feel. So you had creator hearted me? Wow!

Great work Buddy!!

Thanks so much - praise coming from you means a lot to me.

Okay, time for your feedback BlueBulletBill,

Okay, I'm not sure if this is the level I was waiting for, but you said you were making a black and white level, right?
Was this the level that was suppose to be black and white, but you changed the materials?

Anyways, the color scheme is very awesome, I didn't think blue could be such a cool color if you use it the right way.
I liked your puzzles and platforming. Very original and cool.
I don't really have a favorite part because I play levels for creativity, art, and/or storyline.
I can't remember the exact level because I played this yesterday.
What I do know is that you impressed me a lot, in fact, I was surprised you were successful on the level.

Since this is part one, I will be forward to looking at the next level.
Blue Behemoth? I wonder why they call it that. (Just Kidding)
Anyways, I can't wait until part 2 comes out and maybe the visuals will be more better by like TIMES 3!!!

The Cons: (Oh NOEZ!)
With all do respect, I only had one problem. That is that the fact of the level is short.
Nothing bad, but you can't enjoy a short level much, even I hate my own level "Scenic of the Leaves" for being to short.
Other than that, fantastic visuals and color scheme.

Your level deserved a solid heart and 5 stars. <3+:star::star::star::star::star:

Until we meet again,

Hi, BlueBulletBill! I tried you level and found it very cool. I saw many familiar things from VelcroJonze and ali985 levels. Bit you add some your atmosphere so this level looks very good and have very interesting gameplay. Only comment is that it is very short. But you announce part 2, so I will wait for that!

I gave you 5 stars and heart for this level! Great creation!

Pretty sure you have my creator heart already, I give it to everyone on the forum whose levels I like, as it makes finding new ones easier. Plus you all deserve it

Hey B3,

First off, I loved the blue materials you used in this level. I loved how they clashed together perfectly. The VelcroJonze feel of the level was very visible and well felt. The obstacles were very plain, but well made and stood out a lot. Bubbles here and there made me like the level, because I'm a high score hunter, so I know this level was packed with bubbles. The smashing blocks was hard, but once you play more than once or twice or maybe even 10 times, you get the hang of it. This level was short but packed with excitement, can't wait for the sequel. BTW I got the highest score. Took me a while. Great level, 5 stars and a heart.

When I fell into your level my first thought was,
Wow its all so beautiful blue.
And it went diversified on everywhere were bubbles and switches to discover.
Suddenly I was thrown up making a half loop in this twisty thing then down agin and quick upwards.
So it went funny on, until its unfortunately early end.

I've found a way to cheat on my first try, somehow I managed it to place all the Crushers in the Air

Thanks. Like I said earlier, there's a lot of blue to choose from, so I'm glad I seemed to pick the right ones.

Yeah, from one chain right into another!

This level was short but packed with excitement, can't wait for the sequel.

I don't know if there will be a sequel, just a finished level.

Great level, 5 stars and a heart.

Thanks much!

So it went funny on, until its unfortunately early end.

Don't worry, the full level will most likely be at least three times as long.

I've found a way to cheat on my first try, somehow I managed it to place all the Crushers in the Air

Uh... oops. Oh well, I know a quick and easy fix for that.

5 Stars and a Heart

Thanks much!

Hidy Ho B3! Sorry that it took me so long to get some feedback to you, but I haven't played LBP for the last few days, but here I am

This level is great. It's got amazing polish, great platforming, and fun scenarios.

There is a 100% VelcroJonze influence to the level, but there is certainly nothing wrong with that. VJ is one of the very best platformer creators, so it's great to see people influenced by him.

My only real gripe with the level is that it is way too short. I realize that you said it was short in your original post, but this was really short. Are you planning on deleting the level and publishing a longer version, or making an actual sequel? I would advise to make the level longer if you make an actual sequel, because the length is what is holding this level back. VJ's Fort Sugar II suffered this same problem. It was an awesome level, but it didn't nearly show the true potential that VJ had because it was so short. I really think that you can make a name for yourself with great platforming skills like this B3, so that's why I'm encouraging a longer level. You did an incredible job with the bit that is there.

So, I guess that all I am saying is the level was so great that I want to see more! Great work B3!

Hello-

I really like your level. The platforming had a nice VelcroJonze feel, but I could tell you added your own unique flair to it. It's nice to see a fully blue level, it makes me want to make a fully green level. I liked how you threw sackboy all around, and you had nice corner edits. I fortunately didn't encounter any problems in the entire level. The 7 stickers used again and again gave the level an organized and pretty feel. I also really love the name, I usually don't care for levels' names, but this was an exception, especially since I love alliterations.

I rated it :star::star::star::star::star: and <3ed the level.

It's funny you should mention this, because thinking ahead, I was already coming up with Red Runaround and Great Greens. Imagine...

BlueBulletBill presents: The Color Trilogy!

Thanks, it's always good to get feedback from LBPC's incredible levitating feces.

Yes, I'm planning to add more to this one first, but I won't rule out a blue sequel yet.

Nice job on the Spotlight mention B3 - I'm really looking forward to more of your levels.

Since you've already used 'blue' perhaps your next creation could be beige, burgundy, black, bronze, or brown.

Hey B3,

Congrats with the Spotlight Nod! It was superb with the understated VJ-esque design mixed with the classic platforming we all enjoy and love. I only wish it was a little longer for a complete experience...
