The Art of Stickeringthekevinexpress
Sure you can run, grab, and jump, but how good are you at stickering? Features 10 secrets and a race mode. [Med-Hard]
Howdy everyone! I just published my third level, it's Islands themed and has some pretty unique gameplay (in my own non-biased opinion ). Hopefully I'll have pictures soon, if I can find my flash drive. I'll do any number of F4F's.

I'll play this next time I get on LBP.

Can you leave feedback on Farewell Ruins of the Moon: Chapter One (https://lbpcentral.lbp-hub.com/index.php?t=26787-Farewell-Ruins-of-the-Moon-Chapter-One) by AbstractSam? Thanks!

Hey there!

I play-tested this level a while back - some unique gameplay here!
I'll leave feedback tomorrow - when I get home from my cottage. =)

If you could give me some feedback on my level Mandatory Maintenance 1 (Link in signature) that would be great! If you prefer I can leave feedback first on your level.

I played this earlier. Or, rather, I tried to... It took two restarts to get the blue sticker to emit (you have a timing issue; objects cannot emit when another object is inhabiting their space. A better solution would be to have the prize bubble drop down on a string or rise up on a platform, instead of emitting it).

Second problem is the red platform after the first sticker. It drops down same as the grabby cylinder thing... but it seems entirely pointless. I tend to believe (in the face of ample evidence to the contrary) that people don't put pointless things in their levels, so I spent a good deal of time trying to figure out what I was supposed to do with it. No dice.

So after getting past that (also note that the key above the red platform is just barely visible during gameplay, as is the chunk of dark matter you have holding up the level on the right hand side just past the red platform), and the aforementioned blue sticker issue, we come to the problem with the sticker. It is not really possible to get on top of the blue brick that is emitted, which means just doing a nice long jump over the electricity (which is a more elegant solution anyway, I think; have the sticker switch remove a barrier that won't let you jump across perhaps).

Now comes the next problem.. I land on some L-shaped blue thing. And then what? It's not grabbable, there are no sticker switches anywhere onscreen, it doesn't move. Figuring I had done something wrong, I went back and redid the level again... no change. My roommate (a video game ubernerd) couldn't figure it out either.

So yeah, I'm sorry, but this level is either completely broken or so obscure as to be unplayable. In either case it needs a lot of work. I'll be happy to review it again once you fix those issues, or meed up with you in online create and help you with them.

Since this is F4F, could you check out Arbitrary Platformer 2: Electric Boogaloo? Ta.

A better solution would be to have the prize bubble drop down on a string or rise up on a platform, instead of emitting it). Pretty simple fix here, just need to add a timer.

Second problem is the red platform after the first sticker. It drops down same as the grabby cylinder thing... but it seems entirely pointless. If you walk on the layer behind the red platform, use the red sticker and it toggles it down, and you're able to jump on top and grab the white grabby (which gets you points later)

So after getting past that (also note that the key above the red platform is just barely visible during gameplay, as is the chunk of dark matter you have holding up the level on the right hand side just past the red platform), and the aforementioned blue sticker issue, we come to the problem with the sticker. Hmm, don't really know what you mean not able to jump on top, it's supposed to disappear if that's what you're saying? You just have to be fast.

I guess I didn't really make this clear, I thought it was obvious, but I guess not. Basically, if you see something red, you use the red sticker and it toggles it directionally. Green turns it on/off, and blue is for one shots. So at this point you should use the blue sticker and it will launch you over the electricity.

So yeah, I'm sorry, but this level is either completely broken or so obscure as to be unplayable. In either case it needs a lot of work. I'll be happy to review it again once you fix those issues, or meed up with you in online create and help you with them.
I hope it's just too obscure. I'll try and make everything much more clear and I hope you won't mind too much to play it again. Thanks!

Since this is F4F, could you check out Arbitrary Platformer 2: Electric Boogaloo? Ta.
Will do next time I'm on.

My responses in bold. Thanks!

Well, I played this through without any hitches whatsoever... Not sure what problems you were having.

Anyway, I really like the style, but I would've enjoyed a little big more of the corner editor. It just seems like one of those levels that would have benefited. A change of materials would've been nice for the objects that were activated by sticker... Make it seem more like an islands theme. The vast amount of stickers used was very nice, but the secrets weren't that rewarding - no bubbles?

This level has a nice quirkiness to it, and because this level is as long as it is, I'm going to give you :star::star::star::star:and a half, and a <3 for you and the level!

And I'll do your F4F next time I'm on.

No, that was perfectly clear. I tried doing that with the blue sticker, nothing happened.

As for the red platform, you need to show a little better where the stairs behind it are.

Alright finished it. Pretty interesting level idea, although I've always hated stickering levels. It's so annoying having to bring out the pop-it, shuffling through your stickers, etc. DX But this level was actually quite fun. The visuals were kinda of weird and blinding, and it was kinda confusing where to put the stickers. I stuck the stickers everywhere I could sometimes and nothing happened, but when I knew what to do it was fun. The difficulty was great, and overall pretty nice level.

Okay, I'm playing the level as I go, so here's a list of the problems/suggestions I incur as I'm playing:
1) The first "secret" (whatever the white balls are called...) was a bit obscure, I ended up putting the sticker on the background to make it work, not sure if that was intentional, but it didn't work on the red thing itself...
2) Some of the sticker switches are a bit random... I just feel that they'd be more in place if they were on the objects they activated instead of the background...
3) This level didn't really follow the islands theme... (I don't know if you wanted it too)
4) People don't like to pick up your stuff... Almost everyone I know has collect community prizes turned off... they don't want to pick up your stickers... I don't really know how you can fix this though...
5) There were some really annoying parts e.g. the part after the giant moving background section
6) Once I got to the end and saw the thing that said use this to activate race mode I realized that race mode wasn't supposed to start in the beginning. I'm guessing that was an accident, but it somehow put me into a race right on the spawn point (I was wondering how you did it without a race gate)
7) I didn't actually play race mode, but if it starts in the begging and ends at the finish, you don't have enough time, I ran out about half way through the level
8) It is pretty hard, it has a 1/11 completion rate...

Overall, I thought this was a really original and cool idea, I liked it. 5 Stars and <3.

P.S. Play the level "Republishing 101" to see how to get your level more plays if you want.

So a couple of you have mentioned this, do you think it would make more sense to have you sticker the object itself or the background?

This reminds me to put "Turn Prizes On" or something in the description. If you could be a little more specific about what was frustrating during the part after the moving background bit I could probably fix it. And I don't really know what you're saying about the race gates, you get the sticker and then when you play it again you use it to start the race. And there is plenty of time to finish (I've gotten about 17000) but I could add some more, sure. And I'm okay with it being hard.

I'll get to your F4F soon.

Hi-

I really love the concept of this level, it's a truly ingenious idea that I would never have thought of. One of the things I like is how at first, you make it clear that red is a directional toggle, green is on/off, and red is one-shot. I see you have an automatic point system for secrets, I love those things, they're so useful, but I rarely see anyone actually use them. At the area with the movng background, it's sort of hard to know to grab the platform in one of the red areas , sorry if I'm not making any sense. (you could put the R1 sticker on it, it's a secret sticker found in the Gardens levels). The puzzle with the blue sticker firing paint was awesome. I found all but two secrets.

I rated it :star::star::star::star::star: and <3ed.

Thanks! I was actually thinking about doing that earlier, but I must have forgot while switching into create mode!

I noticed you don't have any showcases right now, but if you ever want some feedback on anything just let me know, I owe you one.

Hey, thanks for the feedback on my level.

I really liked the styleof your level, it fits a sticker level well if that makes any sense
You have some cool original gameplay here. Using those stickers to make the level move along is a cool idea.
It all works well, that is if you know where to put the stickers.

I had some troubles at the start. After you fall down on the blue L shaped thing I as well had no idea where to place the blue sticker. I figured it must be the blue one seeing as the platform was blue. After trying everything I finally noticed I had to place the sticker on a small blue patch on the background. Due to the camera angle this was almost impossible to see 90% of the time. I would suggest changing the camera here so people can see it.
But after I placed the sticker, instead of being launched forward I got smacked to the back, with the only way out suicide in the electricty under the platform. After 4 tries I finally got past that though..

Second problem I had was somewhere halfway the level. You have to place the blue sticker to jump up, and then quickly grab a "roller" above you. Meaning I have to push circle like a maniac in order to close my poppit and actually grab the thing. Can't say I really enjoyed that part.

Other than that, your level played well and I liked the fresh ideas it had.

Hmm, you're the second person who's been having problems at that part. I don't really know what's wrong with it, it always works fine for me, but I can take a look at it.

And as for the second problem, that just takes practice. I've tried tweaking it a few times, but I can't really make it any easier. Maybe I'll add something in so you can by pass that part, but you lose bubbles.

Anyway thanks for the constructive criticism.

The level could use a bit more fixing on the obstacles but it was an clever level the way you use the stickers to activate and deactivate the obstacles. The level however could use more checkpoints and the part where you launch yourself to grab the sponge object after placing an One Shot sticker is not a good idea because it's really hard for people to close the menu really fast. Still a lot of fun though. 4 stars.

Play my level "The Hero Chronicles LV1: Magical Forest" and F4F if you can.

If you read the post above you, you'll see that Serph had the same problem. So I'll take a look at that probably tonight, and make an alternate route of some kind. I'll get on your F4F as soon as I can too.

Hello kevin!
Well..
Here is my reply..
I didn't really like the idea that I had to use all of those stickers and delete them all after. Maybe use some colored stickers and code them rather than taking up space in our popit?

Also some of the platforms you could easily jump over like the second one where you are introduced to the One Shot sticker. I cleared it easily without dying.

Like I'm seeing a few others have, I couldn't make it past some L-shaped blue object. I put every sticker on it yet nothing occurred, no light came up on it with any sticker, red, nor green.

I am hoping you fix this because it is a wonderful level concept and I would hate to see it go down over something so silly!
Rated 3 out of 5 due to technical difficulties

I hope to see it improved in the near future!

Oh this is why everyone is having problems there! The sticker switches are on the background not the object! I didn't realize everyone was trying to sticker the object.

Not you fault obviously, but I'll trigger a magic mouth explaining that if you sticker the object. Thanks!

Hey kevinexpress, I tried this level out and I think the best thing about it is its uniqueness. It stands out among so many others. Great job on a pretty original concept. I had trouble with the black and white switches getting those grabable circles to go up the middle. I also thought maybe the section with the electric red circle and the blue temporary staircase was a bit too difficult. I would lengthen that lifetime of the blue staircase a bit longer for the swinging. Also you might put some kind of indicator on the backgrounds where it's possible to use stickers to help people figure out exactly where they can use them. I gave you :star::star::star::star: but if I didn't get so ****** at those black/white balls I would've given you 5 2010-05-25 03:10:00

Well, thanks for getting through it, even though it got frustrating. I can lengthen the lifetime on that emitter, but I'm not sure how I can make those balls any easier. I may just add in another 'give up?' sign. Thanks for the feedback!

Hey there!

First of all, let me say this is a cool concept for a level. However, I'm not sure if it totally fits in with the islands theme.
It was quite a difficult level, but I enjoyed it - up to the point where I spend around 15 minutes trying to figure out how to activate the black and white switches using the two spongy things on winches. I kinda had to give up there, as I was getting quite frustrated - sorry about that!
I did fall out of level at some point as well - it's when I grabbed a secret white circle, where the floor was moving. I popped myself so I could continue - but you might wanna cover that up

Overall it was a fun level, and I wished I could have finished it. I'll probably return back sometime to finish it off - but could you tell me how to do that puzzle? I'm stumped!
I liked the idea of a stickering level - and the fact that different stickers do different things. Something to consider may be more sound effects? These always make me feel more at home and involved in a level!

Nice work! 4 starred!
Keep it up!

but could you tell me how to do that puzzle?

Thanks for the feedback! I'll look into adding a bunch of mechanical sounds, it's something I've been meaning to do.

As for where you got stuck, I'm hoping you got the basic idea, that you toggle the balls down, pull them a over under the levers, and toggle them up, activating the lever. It's a pretty simple idea, but the intuitive thing to do is to pull it over past the lever to give themselves more room to work with, when actually this just creates more momentum towards where the winch is anchored, and makes it harder. So the solution is kind of counterintuitive, which is why it's stumping so many people. I'm considering adding in a switch where you can opt out of that puzzle now. Thanks anyway!

Actually what I was thinking while playing it was, "I wish those columns were a little bit lower" because I was having trouble dragging the black circle to the left. But I realized that my problem was starting out with it all the way dragged to the left. If I let is set in a more neutral position before yanking on it then I got it to work.

Yep, you can see me mentioning that in my post just above yours. About how the solution is counterintuitive. I'll make the columns a little lower and see if that helps some.
