These green bars..

Archive: 12 posts

The green bars under people's avatars on their posts.. What are they measuring? I see I have one.
Can anyone assist me?

They're based on the reputation you receive, whether it's given to you by the Thanks! button or the six sided star icon called...well... "reputation". You're given a bar every 100 reputation points you receive. You can check how many you have by clicking the "settings" button on the top bar

Hope that helps!

To be more specific than GreyMRP:

Reputation is indicated by the green bars under an avatar in someone's post. Green bars are positive reputation, red bars are negative reputation, and grey bars (which are rare) means neutrality, at 0 reputation. New members automatically start out with 10 reputation.

"Thanks!" is worth +1 reputation, no matter who you are. There is also the ability to "rep" someone, which should usually only be done when someone does you a big favor or makes a very helpful guide, etc. "Rep Power" depends on the repper's amount of reputation. The higher his reputation, the higher his rep power. You also have the ability to negative-rep someone, the opposite of repping someone. This should usually only be done when someone is being extremely rude, on purpose.

You gain a new bar at every 100 rep. You start with 1 bar because new members start with 10 reputation points. Likewise, you gain a new red bar for every 100 negative reputation points.

You can see your rep in "settings", along with your ten most recent negative-reps, reps, and thanks, at the top-right blue bar of the page.

Just to avoid confusion, adding or deducting rep is no longer possible, there's just 'Thanks' now. 2010-05-17 18:51:00

And "Thanks" now gives +2rep points, remember that too.

Well, the only way we could influence your rep now is by thanking you... So make a thanks-worthy post or two, Bounty! 2010-05-19 16:21:00

This isn't really a big deal, but I have received exactly 100 rep points and I still only have 1 bar. Is this because of the recent change or is something going wrong?

Or not. (looks at post below). Just ignore me.
