Chaotic Mayhem
4 Player Action RPG

Setting -
Medival Era, like Knights, and castles kind of era.
I am thinking of making this an overhead view level, with towns/cities with regular view


Storyline
A cross-dimensional rift has opened in the 3 dimensions. Demons, Angels, and Sackboys are now in a joined world. All the races start split up until they all try a diplomatic route. Ecerybody is working together nicely until... One day a underground organization called "Mayhem from Below" comes up and attacks all places. Being peaceful this was unexpected, and no army was formed. Evil starts to reign. A group of resistance fighters forms to break free. Only "The Chaos Breakers" can stop the evil now. A problem starts in "The Chaos Breakers" village. Everybody starts arguing and they split themselves up into groups called guilds. Not only must you and your guild attempt to rid the world of evil, but you must also protect yourselves from the other guilds.


Guilds
Guilds will be created by users and made up of users. There will be guild wars if a guild declares one upon another. Guilds can also become allies, and help each other by fighting alongside them in a guild war or help with a quest.


Character System
The characters will use Sackbots and will be controlled using the Direct Control Seat.
This level will have 4 player compatibility if sackbots can switch layers.
Characters will have Costumes created by the Users.


Classes
There will be a variety of character classes to choose from. This is kind of like how it will go.


Class 1 - Lvls 1-5
Novice

Class 2 - Lvls 6-10
Fighter -- Mage -- Archer -- Hoodlum

Class 3 - Lvls 11 -20
Monk - Knight - Berserker -- Priest - Shaman - Necromancer -- Ranger - Sniper - Artilleryman -- Rogue - Ninja - Assassin

Stats
There are only 3 stats your character can get
Health(Hp) - Increases damage you can take.
Speed - Increases attacking speed
Magic Power (Mp) - Increases amount of max spells or techniques that can be used.


Specialization
Races and Classes all have their own stat specializations giving them extra in a certain stat but also lowering the amount in another so think carefully when choosing your character class and race.


Classes
Novice - No specialization
Fighter - Minor Hp
Monk - Minor Hp, Minor Mp
Knight - Major Hp
Berserker - Minor Hp, Minor Speed
Mage - Minor Mp
Priest - Major Mp
Shaman - Minor Mp, Minor Hp
Necromancer - Minor Mp, Minor Speed
Ranger - Minor Speed
Archer - Major Speed
Sniper - Minor Speed, Major Mp
Artilleryman - Minor Speed, Minor Hp


Races

I may or may not be making 3 different races in the game. If I do this I would need help. These are what the races would be

Demonic Sack - High Health Low Speed
Angelic Sack - High Magic Power Low Health
Sackboy/Sackgirl - High Speed Low Magic Power


Techniques/Spells
Each class will have its own techniques or spells. These will take up Magic Power or Mp.

Guild wars? Sounds ambitious. I haven't given it much thought yet, but it sounds difficult to support in-game, you'd need an external website or something to support this. What are your plans here?

Sackbots can switch layers with the right settings, so 4 players should be feasible. Personally I'd swap ranger and archer, an archer is more a generic ranged combat type, and a ranger specializes in hunting, animals, nature, etc. And what's the difference between a fighter and a warrior? Maybe have a knight or palladin instead?

And in answer to your question in the other RPG thread: First, make sure your thread name will draw the attention of the people you want to read it. If you had put the word RPG in the title, I'd have read it already. Second, write something interesting that others will want to comment on. Guess you already succeeded with me there.

Wow! Ambitious project you got here.
I haven't read up to much on LBP2 yet since it's still far away and I like a surprise
So I got no clue how you're planning on making all this, but if you do I'll be the first to join.

Really like the guild system you mentioned, pretty awesome to see that happening
The classes seem pretty basic to me, something a little more lbp'ish would be cool, although I currently got no suggestions for you...
The races seem interesting to me though (Demonic Sack, oh yeah!).

Anyways, I'm curious how this will trun out eventually, and I'll be sure to check it out when the time comes.

You need to simplify it, there are still limits within the hardware that will disable what you will be able to do ( sadly ). Maybe have the story take part between several levels, have the player use stickers to use stuff they unlocked in previus levels and sticker keys so that you can get the " key to the magic door " on one level, and then open the magic door on another ?

Simply have 4 predetermined races/classes. HP,Speed,MP, and the all around. Impossibel to have a " complicated leveling system ". Instead why not have that they upgrade in 2 or 3 tiers ( Maybe it is possibel to have emitters on the sackbots, so that you can unlock a more debastating fireblast or so, or maybe simply unlock a more powerfull version of the same sackbot so teh player switches sackbots when he levels ? ).

If you want to get plays you will need to dumb it down alot since casual players don't want to spend <10 minutes on a level. But you need to simplify it a little bit. This is only possibel if you can put magnetic switches on the sackbots i think. If you want to make a " turn based RPG " you won't actually need sackbots for this. But if you want to have more like an action game in a rpg setting were you have diffrent attacks against monsters and bosses sackbots will be needed.

Allso in WoW and Guild, all races can play alone and fight monsters while surviving, the priests can fight wolves as well as the warrior or mage. If you have diffrent classes you must adapt the level so that all the classes can hold their own against the enemys. But if you have a warrior with meelee attacks that has high hp he will do just as well as a mage that fire " flaming paintbolls " against enemys.

Even though you seem more interested in the llbpcentral audience, you should still make it easy to play. In WoW races doesnt really matter, A Tauren can loose to a gnome lol. Maybe you should have one race, and instead diffrent classes that plays in their own ways ?

Like a mage that shoots fire paintballs, a warrior that uses his sword to hit his enemy. I dont think being speedy matters if you can't attack. Maybe have a hunter class that can use weopens and set traps ? You can see how theese classes would upgrade.

Mage

LvL 1 = paintball that shoots a magic ball of paint towards a goal, can be set to act as a normal paintball or go straight with the help of pistons.

LvL 2 = Super Jump, wich allows the mage to hoover over obstacles and abysses.

LvL 3 = freeze ray wich will stun enemys for 5 seconds and in addition it will be possibel to with some logic magic wipe out fire blocks ( Dissolvable blocks that will turn normal after the magnetic bla bla bla from the freeze ray )-

LvL 4 = Lethal Paint Ball Ray. Extremly deadly.

Allso possibel to use logic so that when you use paintball fire ball, it will reduce your'e magic points. But the powerfull attacks will use more mana. Propably best to have a manageneration after 5 seconds of not using it since bottles might be to complicated.


Warrior

LvL 1= Melee attack.

LvL 2 = Shield tackle, Run quickly against a enemy/goal with a shield up so you can push them down or into the abbyss and ruin forts.

LvL 3 = Mega jump, wich basicly means that mages and warriors can play the same level but with a diffrent feel.

LvL 4 = Dragon strike wich means that players have a more powerfull version of melee attack wich has cool down.



Having a class revolved around speed isn't a good idea, You should have a hunter class instead imho.

Hunter

LvL 1 = The player has a gun that he can aim with, wich means he is dependable on amo.

LvL 2 = The player can summon a pet, a wolf that will charge towards a enemy and distract/dammage them.

LvL 3 = The player can set a mine, that will cause alot of dammage to however gets close.

LvL 4 = Grenade, the player will toss a grenade that will cause alot of dammage.



Or you can simplify it further. Have a special token that will elevate the finder to a higher level and simply give the player more health/magic points for doing so and upgrade their attacks. Having something like Guild is possibel.... But it won't be playable or berable.

I know how to make the logic in LBP 1 to make this work (hard to explain it though) so it should be possible to do even in LBP 2. I will have special attacks depending on the class you have chosen. Everything will work I know I would be able to all I would need from LBP 2 really is the Direct Control Seat, and Sackbots. I will use sticker switches as a saving mechanism and to open certain areas. So don't worry about how it will work because I know what I'm doing, if you want me to give spell/skill list I will but thats about all I can give you.2010-05-19 20:48:00
