"Disagree" Button

Archive: 13 posts

Well, you know how we have the "Thanks" button?

I was thinking why not have a button to "Disagree" or Dislkie" or something like that.
I mean you can always see how many people like an idea or a comment, but all those who don't agree are shut off?

And yes i know we got the -Rep feature, but:
- Is rarely used
- Can't see how many people dislike the -Rep'd post
- Reduces Rep depending on how much Rep the one who -Rep'd has.

Just like the "Thanks" button adds 1 point, this option would just reduce 1 Rep to prevent major rep "damage" per say for something ,inor (New guy post something out of ignorance, gets -Rep'd by someone and gets red bar)

I mean, people do have opinion other than Agreeing, right?

hmm yeah but some people might still abuse this system...but yeah we could remove negative rep and put this in instead.

It's a good idea but it might not work very well...

Well.........you someone could argue it's not fair to new members, yet they shouldn't be talking that way anyway, but how could you stop people from abusing the button? So they don't wreck somebody's rep just because they 'disagree" with them? A system to make sure it's actually something bad? Well...anyways ... well i couldn't really give a different suggestion, just a look into the suggestion itself. I have failed 2010-05-16 00:52:00

It would just bring too much negativity. If you disagree with someone then the right way to deal with it is to reply and say WHY you disagree. That's where debate and discussion comes from.

There's no real point in having a 'disagree' button, if you feel that your opposing opinion is something of interest then posting a reply would be the most sensible option. If the post is truly something that isn't nice then the neg rep and 'report' options are all you need.

Basically, it would just come off as a bit rude, if you disagree with someone then it would courteous to say why. A 'disagree button' would just be like posting 'Nope, you're wrong', and that's it.

Forums are a place that are finely balanced as it is in terms of keeping them a happy and respectful place, a 'feature' that would promote such negativity would not really help.

In an ideal world, it might be nice...but unfortunately on forums it just wouldn't work. I know there's a lot of people that would like such a feature on facebook, and the general reason as to why people think facebook won't do it is because it might lead to 'bullying'. That's on a website which is based around interacting with your friends...imagine what such a thing would do on a site where you are interacting with lots of strangers!

Yeah, wether it works or not depends on the maturity of this form's members.

So thechnically it would be up to you guys (not you 2 specificzally, to everyone in the forum) for it to work properly.

Gah. You read my mind EXACTLY

He said it perfectly. Pressing a button because you disagree with someone won't help anyone, either. You have to tell them WHY you disagree.

Then why have a "Thanks" button as well?
Just reply that you agree or that the post was helpful.

When you are saying thanks to someone the reason you are thanking them is usually quite obvious, therefore an explanation is not required. Hundreds of people saying 'thanks' or 'I agree' would just clog up the forum unnecessarily. It's just a quick easy way of showing your gratitude to someone.

When you disagree with someone, the reason why you disagree with them is the most important detail.

True, that is a good point there.

Oh well, i leave it to the Mods, or CC to decide wethre to be added or not.
I don't like discussing for non-completly necessary stuff.
