Interesting stuff on cover :>

There lot of programing-like stuff on blackboard It might be more then just elements and wires

maybe. but not like major programing. minor programing like optional coding for sackbots.2010-05-15 10:01:00

Why only sackbots? That would be waste2010-05-15 10:29:00

Looks like the kinda stuff I'm revising for maths GCSE...

Hopefully we can basic program though. I wouldn't expect anything more complex than the simplest of programming, as this is likely to be a 7+ again..

Something like Codu or Blizzard's Trigger System they quite game pad frindly

But still it might be something wire based what we was talking in "Logic" thread

I'm not sure the stuff on the cover was meant to specifically imply that we would be programming. I'm thinking it's a more symbolic thing.

That said, we already can program in lbp. There's been a calculator, some tic tac toe levels that can recognize a win, and even a fully functional connect 4 machine (that one was awesome, btw: the logic took care of the players' turn mechanics, and it would recognize any of the possible win methods).

I once made a player following checkpoint that was smart enough to avoid the ground, walls, and my mech. It even knew to pull out of the way if the mech tried to push it against a wall. It was pretty much an A.I. program. A bit rudimentary, but a program nonetheless... and it worked! Of course if I were to make one again, it would be SO much easier with things like thin gas (the old one has all its sensors/mag switches on the checkpoint itself; with gas I could put them further out) and I'd make it way more thermo efficient (thanks to Rtm's blog). If you wanna' check it out, it's used in my old level: "Sehven's Mech Mark II: Updated" and the level is copyable.

LBP1 won't give things that is showed in this cover and most thing that user did in LBP1 is "unexpected" things by developers

And i said few times here, if they promote this as a "gameing platform" there need to be numbers, vars, there need to be IF...THEN...ELSE and few more to be one. Starcraft 1 had poor trigger system but greater then LBP1 mechanical logic have to offer, still you would not be able to go far from RTS

They could use a few simple statements.

You know, "if", "else", "or", etc.

When i tried to make my Connect 4 machine, just the detection system ate the whole Thermo. Did it recognize the diagonals too? What's its name?
I'd like the programming thing included, but as LBP2 is meant to be easy to get in the traing and create something, the complex logic programming woukld surely turn many poential creators off... unless there was the "easy" way of logic as we know it today. And there is, so that < doesnt make any sense.

Um.... it was called "Sweet Connect 4 Machine." Can't remember the name of the guy that made it. Yeah, it did diagonals: every possible win combination was covered.

If you need to learn how to streamline your logic to save on thermo, check out Rtm223's blog (http://www.lbpcentral.com/forums/blog.php?4150-rtm223).

[edit] Iirc, the guy who made that connect 4 level, also had a youtube video where he showed all the logic. There was an AND gate for every single possible win combination and there were little blocks with mag switches moving up and down through all the gates scanning for a possible win.

TBH, I wouldn't expect any actual text based scripting to be implemented. For the kind of things you'd want for LBP, a graphical / flow diagram / block level programming, which is far more intuitive for people not familiar with programming concepts, easier to integrate with the existing systems people are used to, is more appropriate. In many ways I'd consider such a system more sophisticated than a very simple scripting language.

Plus the things on the cover look a lot more like hand-written notation of maths (2D co-ordinates) rather than programming

yea. its alot more like basic math than programming. besides, i dont think LBP needs programming (in the sense you are thinking) it just needs easier to store logic.2010-05-17 19:30:00

Rremember, they said visual/ physical is the focus as they said, like RTM already stated, i doubt they'd add any text code building thingamajig.

That's just for show in the cover

And people need to be afraid of a sequel XD

I don't expect any text programing too, as i said Codu-like or Blizzard trigger system-like (i believe it could be usable with pad) at most.
I think just compacting current logic won't give enough improvement to call the thing "Gaming platform", at least wire arithmetic system that we discussed in other thread would be good but not much effective.

So you're basically saying if its not as you like its bad?
Well that's kinda selfish, no?

Besides, remember they're still saving the bes stuff for E3, they did say that we've only seen a small portion of what we're gonna have.

I personally don't want them to make things too complicated. Sure, you might want it now, but when it comes out, because everyone's asking for complicated stuff, it may be too complicated. I mean look at sims 3 - that totally flopped because it was too complex - sims 2 was great though, because it was simpler.2010-05-17 23:50:00

It's just my opinion and i'm not saying that current logic bad, i'm happy with compacting things, i just expecting something more from "game platform"
As for cover you guys are right, i seen mysteries "This is your pod" and it's fit that math artstyle

What ever happens old stuff still be there and with Direct Seat Control alone it will give you lot of improvement but still simple so you don't need to worry
