Thermometer in LBP2

Archive: 11 posts

It is I, Edrien. So me and Will have been wondering what else to do on our work in progress and how LBP 2 may affect it. That really isn't our primary concern, so I'll get to it. Highly detailed, logic filled, and large grounded levels REALLY raise the thermometer. We were wondering with all the cool inclusive features to LBP 2, how will it comply with the thermometer, or if there is even a thermometer anymore?

Feedback?

If whole logic will be moved to simple elements then there will be more space for level stucture, ofcorse if limits will be the same. I bealive Thermometer in reality is a limit of file size of level2010-05-14 16:32:00

It's not file size, it's an estimation of what the engine can handle and is really quite an annoyingly complex thing. Check out the thermo guide (stickied in tutorials if you don't get what I mean).

Realistically what we want is more visibility of the thermo, so a break down of the different thermometers (current view just gives the max value of all of them). Logic will now take up less thermo than before, for very obvious reasons, but it's likely that other elements will not.

There is still going to be a limit on how much can go into a level, it's not just a little joke that MM have at our expense, it is there for a reason

I know why the Thermometer is there, I'm just asking how limitations may work in the sequel.

Well you did ask if there would be a thermometer any more I'd imagine the limitations would work in a vaguely similar way. They may well devise a far more complex thermo algorithm that better matches the abilities of the engine, which would be good as I kinda think that would give more space (based on aya's thermo cheats). Something with a bit more intelligence than "x objects, y moving objects, z connectors" etc.

That said, I don't really expect there to be any major changes other than visibility.

Well one change we can probably expect is to have a 'taller' thermometer. Mm said it redid the game engine, which has improved the visuals and I'd also guess that the code runs with greater efficiency on the ps3 processors. I think it isn't being overly optimistic to assume that the same level in LBP, when ported to LBP2, might show less thermometer usage.2010-05-14 17:45:00

I can't help but wonder how much our (to-be) beloved custom-programmed Sackbots will take... But it's good that the logic got stuffed away to another dimension wherever Circuit Boards do exist, so be have more Thermo to blow on the Visuals and/or lenght of the level... I'd also like to see what Mm would do if they had the Thermo while doing the story levels... thank god they dont!2010-05-14 18:51:00

I think the MM levels are all easily containable within the thermo, unless I misunderstood what you meant by that....2010-05-14 18:58:00

I would like to have all the thermos showing at once, it would make things so much easier. (for example when telling how much something takes up on the thermo)2010-05-14 19:10:00

i agree with the separate visible thermos wish. i want to see exactly of how much stuff i get.2010-05-14 19:20:00
