LBP2 Water Material

Archive: 23 posts

In the LBP2 Qore video you can clearly see at 4:56 and at 5:05 that there is a material that looks like running water. Does this mean that we wont have to use glass as waterfalls anymore. Media molecula has mentioned that there will be more dynamic textures and this seems like a great example. Ithink it looks great in any case.2010-05-14 11:03:00

i think its glass and trick lighting. the ps3's hardware, and most computers to date, have a tough time rendering realistic water. thats why LBP's water is just 1 piece. its incredibly hard to create free flowing water in a physics engine like LBPs. so i bet that was just glass with some trick lighting.2010-05-14 11:21:00

Like posted in the first post, there may be dynamic textures on materials now, so there could be a "moving water" material, but it won't be truly dynamic water.

I believe that its fully stationary and does not actually flow. it merely gives an impression of pouring water.
its still useful when making taps, waterfalls etc.

It's shader trick with moving dump map ;] i remember first time when i see dumpmepped glass in Half-Life 2

I don't see anything at 5:05, but I think it's just a burning wall moving vertically at 4:56 2010-05-14 14:37:00

The 5:05 one is at the blue looking checkpoint, bottom rightish. Yeah this has to be the material that we've seen in a few videos now. Will be very useful, no more glass waterfalls! Also there the glowing bug things are moving on paths and I don't think it's like what would be done in LBP1 with glass and pistons etc. Please god we can make things follow a line for animation, would be such a big help.2010-05-14 15:02:00

Perhaps it's a glass material which looks like there is water inside? ^^2010-05-14 16:44:00

there are animated materials like moving star fields and running water. you can change the color of the water and how fast it moves. that all i know about it though2010-12-17 22:54:00

Yeah I think it's a real materal now. You can't jump or swim in it, but you can use it to make flowing water. I think it's actually called the waterfall material. Someone posted all the beta materials in a sticky thread. Check it and others out there.2010-12-18 04:27:00

On the level "Patients Are A Virtue" where you have to use the splash cannon on a big burning circular object, don't push it straight away, instead run down where there is a plant-like bridge to two items, one of which is the "waterfall" material 2011-01-26 11:11:00

Confirmed: there are dynamic matereials. I've collected them. I have so far collected a jelly that flows downward and a material of blue glass with bubbles movingf inside it.

I believe that the video showed this jelly, only with a blue sticker over it.

EDIT: Sorry, I didnt see all of the posts!

It's just jelly(like from "Runaway Train").
