More Information about Direct Control Seat!

Archive: 16 posts

As you can see in this photo of a Sackbot, their are some wonderful new additions to the concept. Their is a override Pop-it option, Trigger Radius option, Show Circuit Board option, Side Mounted option, Remote Control Color option (guess), a Automatic Er... option (Idk), and probably alot of other options. So discuss and comment on what you think about the photo. (:

TRy this link and then clicking on the story, that fixed it for me. If not, just find your way to the gallery page through a few links around the site, rather than direct linking.2010-05-13 23:53:00

Yup, I found this image earlier today, too. At first I thought it was just the same image as had been appearing on loads of other pages, but as it turns out it has a few extra options.

Obviously the top circle is where you can dress up your sackbot. The next one down I think controls how your sackbot's animation plays back. Monstrous Head? Hmmm, maybe there's more than visual properties in that ...

Behaviour - basic follow/flee/ignore? I think that's the case, especially as we are in the "Basic" tab of its properties. Maybe L1 or R1 will take us to more advanced options. The Record/Restart options could refer to the attribution of sounds to the sackbot, or of a "routine" or "animation". The latter would make sense, because underneath that is a play mode option.

I haven't actually made a lot of constructive observations there really ...

Their is a override Pop-it option

The theory here is that it disables the pop-it on the square button, presumably to allow you to assign it to another function and/or prevent the player from unstickering a vehicle/sackbot that he's driving.

Trigger Radius option... a Automatic Er... option (Idk)

Trigger radius almost certainly applies to how close you have to be to enter the seat. The "Automatic Er" is actually automatic enter: presumably you could set it so that when sackboy enters the trigger radius, he's automatically put into the seat. This would be especially useful for levels where you never see sackboy: just spawn him right on top of an auto-enter dcs and you've got a spaceship shooter level with no sackboy at all, or he could immediately be given control of a sackbot that's all dressed and powered up for the level (they said we can make double jumps and who knows what other "super powers" we can give bots).

Side Mounted option

I'm not sure about this one. Perhaps it has to do with which way sackboy faces when he enters the seat. If you put the seat on top of a vehicle, you'd want him sitting upright, but if you stick it on the side of a sackbot you'd still want him to face upright, so you'd change it to put him in the side mounted position (note that side mounted is enabled in this pic).

Remote Control Color option (guess)

It would seem that you can set a dcs to be a particular color remote transmitter and set another (or perhaps a separate "receiver" object) to be a receiver of the same color. That would mean that you don't need to directly link the control seat to the vehicle/sackbot. That would be useful for vehicles/bots that need to be respawned.

Show Circuit Board option

I imagine this one is common sense by now, but I'll elaborate any way. This would be the option that gives you the exploded circuit view of what's in the microchip: in this case, it would show the sixaxis button mapping board.

I'm confused ... there was me writing about sackbots and that's not what this thread was even about! Let me have a look at that pic again ...2010-05-14 13:40:00

zen513 said "Remote Control Color option (guess)" but I'm pretty sure the option is just 'Remote Control'. When ticked it means that the sackboy in the DCS can be out of sight but not die after 5 seconds. When its not ticked, the sackboy must stay in the screen even if he is in the DCS.2010-05-14 20:59:00

I hate to say it out loud, but "Side Mounted" may be how the go-kart-on-wall gimmick works. The cars might have side mounted DCS to make it look like Sackboy is being pulled by gravity to the back wall...when in fact he may not be.

Of course, there's still the ramps in the demo video. So I am hopefully very wrong.

Dude...you just might be right though. ;o; This makes me very sad, although that's a very good observation. Although, there's still that whole "the cars have traction on the wall" thing. I'm still praying for gravity that falls away from the screen.

there is a gravity setting in the environment options so don't worry. I saw it in the vied of the dev interview

I think as far as "side mounted" goes, it probably means does the sack person face forward (like in the video when the sack girl jumps into the sackbot) or does he face one side or the other (like in the video when sackgirl rides the dragonfly)... And yeah now that I read all the posts, I think Sehven pretty much nailed every one of them....2010-05-20 23:57:00

This is great! I really enjoyed vehicles in LBP 1, and I often wished for a "control seat" type object for directly controlling a machine... It's so hard to get a good, working, full-featured control system from grab-sponges.2010-06-04 19:34:00

That's why I made control pods (https://lbpcentral.lbp-hub.com/index.php?t=22150-Vehicle-tools-Tilt-and-motion-sensor-and-control-pod-%28Copyable%29). They're nothing compared to what we'll be able to do with dcs's, though.2010-06-06 00:08:00
