How to keep a switch on for a set amount of time.

Archive: 5 posts

I am currently creating a level based on Metal Gear Solid and I'm using the search light.

What I want to do is have it so that when your sackperson is seen by the search light it sets off an alarm for a set amount of time, however I can only seem to get the alarm to come on while the sackperson is still in view of the light (as soon as you run away from the light it stops).

I would like the alarm to sound for a set amount of time (i.e. 5 seconds) and then turn off.
Any help would be much appreciated!

Thank you.

There is a logic example, the delay switch, that you can get by searching "logic pack" on LBP.

Tweak the searchlight to 1-shot. It can activate an external resetting delay switch, with a flipper piston that launches inward for 5 seconds. The end of the flipper piston could be a piece of cardboard with a magnetic key. The other end could be a piece of dark matter with a magnetic key switch that turns on, to activate you sound effect, when the magnetic key switch comes in range. The piston should be tweaked to "stiff" and "flipper motion: in".

Does that make sense?

There are quite a few methods for achieving something like this. I'm gonna point you in the direction of the LBPC Logic Pack, (search @logicpack in game) as that will give you an overview of how to use a variety of logic systems to create effects like the one you describe.

An alternative, which is not described in the logic pack, is to simply emit a piece of dark matter with a magnetic key on it for 5 seconds. Activate the emitter using a 1-shot output from the searchlight and then place a magnetic switch so that the emitted key triggers that. The magnetic switch will be active as for as long as you set the lifetime of the emitter and so you can hook the magnetic switch up to the alarm.

Thank you both very much.
I tried the emitter/magnet switch technique and it's exactly what I wanted.

Oooh that emitter solution sounds better than what I use.2010-05-16 02:02:00
