do i take the key out the level or do i have to delete the current level and republish it? i dont have a problem with doing both

Yes, I think all you need to do is remove the key from the level. That should delete the connection. However, arrow connections on your planet don't update until you play the level concerned - you won't know that two levels are linked until you play the linking level; similar to you won't know the levels are unlinked until you play either of them again.
