Farewell Ruins of the Moon: Chapter OneAbstractSam (If you have an SDTV or if the level is too dark, raise up your gamma in the settings.) 1-PLAYER ONLY http://i41.tinypic.com/4kbi90.png http://i39.tinypic.com/34grkee.png FAREWELL RUINS ~OF THE~ MOON Farewell Ruins of the Moon is a post-apocalyptic story/visual series I'm creating. This is the first level in the series, which serves mostly as an introduction level. Almost all the world's population has vanished, and the c ities have been left abandoned. Seto, a fifteen-year-old boy in Japan, is on a journey to find the Tall Red Tower in search for other survivors after his grandfather passed away. http://i43.tinypic.com/2v1qecm.jpg Chapter One - The Observatory http://i44.tinypic.com/x6ote.jpg Travel through a post-apocalyptic world. http://i41.tinypic.com/2iaes6s.jpg ... http://i40.tinypic.com/2hcnkv9.jpg ... http://i41.tinypic.com/24ffubb.jpg ... http://i41.tinypic.com/2d8ltms.jpg Chapter Two - The Mall. (Coming Soon) I hope you enjoy the level. I had so many problems making this level and I've finally completed it. Lastly, please comment and leave feedback! Thanks! Nice visuals. I'll drop by it next time i'm on LBP. Edit; I played it, and I have a few things to say, It was very well put together with very good detail! Nice way to use the 3D glitch as well. Only thing that was odd was that the stairs wanted me to go down when I tried to go up, but it wasn't too annoying. | 2010-05-12 04:52:00 Author: Tmjtk Posts: 258 |
Updated it with F4F. So leave feedback. KTHX. | 2010-05-12 21:26:00 Author: AbstractSam Posts: 332 |
* Added more pictures. The pictures are not as good as the actual level because the pictures don't depict the light very well. -_- | 2010-05-13 17:01:00 Author: AbstractSam Posts: 332 |
Oh ill have to play this really like the look XD on a side note been playing Fragile Dreams? just look to have a little off that in it. | 2010-05-13 17:29:00 Author: jump_button Posts: 1014 |
I liked your first level Cemetry Drive. I'll try this one tomorrow. BTW can you maybe take some screenshots from my future levels when they become ready? | 2010-05-13 20:31:00 Author: FreeAim Posts: 2462 |
@jump_button: :o yep! This game is based off of it xD I love that game, so emotional and beautiful. @FreeAim: Sure, just PM me whenever you need it. | 2010-05-13 21:12:00 Author: AbstractSam Posts: 332 |

Hello AbstractSam- I played this, I liked it a lot. First off, I liked how you had to collect keys to get to other rooms, and the backtracking sort of areas were also very fun. My favorite part would have to be the end with the two characters talking, it was visually stunning. The level was great in length. I would agree that the level had a post-apocalyptic feel. There was also a ot of fun gameplay parts, such as pulling the boxes from the door so you could get through. The part where you read the letter was interesting too. Great use of the 3D layer glitch. I think I have the high-score too as of now. Overall, this was a visually stunning level, that still managed to have fun gameplay elements. Keep up the great work. I rated it :star::star::star::star::star: and <3ed the level. | 2010-05-13 22:50:00 Author: X-FROGBOY-X Posts: 1800 |
Heyy, I loved your level, it was very beautiful. I really want to know what tools you use when you use the 3D layer glitch? Like how do you put story objects in the back ground, I know you dont have the same basic tools like me, because mine are sooo hard to work with. Ive used some of your tactis before in my past levels, like making it non-linear where you have to backtrack to gather things like keys, it makes the level capable of extreme visuals while also making it not too short. Very thermo efficient... I rated this 5 stars and tagged it Artistic, i also hearted it . This really does deserve more plays. Keep up the good work :d If you'd like to return the favor, play "Bit Strange, a little Wicked (1 Player Adventure) v.4.0" by angiefaramarzi It should be on the first or second page in the level showcase. thanks | 2010-05-13 23:40:00 Author: drei Posts: 158 |
Gonna go play it right now. Can't wait to see it in action as it looks really good from the pictures. :3 I'll edit with a review. EDIT 1: I didn't get to play the entire thing yet as I had to get off. But so far everything was amazing. I love the lighting, sound effects, and the whole get the key puzzle (had me thinking for a quite a while hahaha). I can't wait to keep playing the level once I can. ^o^ (If you ever get the chance, could you play the level in my sig?) | 2010-05-14 01:43:00 Author: AeroForce22 Posts: 392 |

Thanks guys, I'll try your levels tommorow. | 2010-05-14 03:51:00 Author: AbstractSam Posts: 332 |
Yeps, the visuals are great (except the 5-floor building, unless you did aim to Dull Industrial Grey), and I love the amount of the nitty-gritty detail you've poured there. I don't know is it just me, but I still thought it missed something. Could just be the thing that I've gotten used to levels with gameplay. Theres just one problem: After obtaining the key to the bottom floor from the 4th floor, the bottom floor stayed locked. Is there anything more to get? Such as: "obtain BF key", "goto Library", "obtain Book of Relative Wisdom", "goto BF", "open door"? (Sorry, couldnt resist ) Also, if you have the time and the friend(s) to try my Cooperation Caves (x2), please do so. Thanks in advance! And another thing: how can i get the stars showing? (rated it 4) | 2010-05-14 07:12:00 Author: Unknown User |
I think I'm going to play this tomorrow. I love moody levels, and I want inspiration for using the 50-layer-glitch, and you seem to have used it very well. | 2010-05-14 07:54:00 Author: jjmusicman Posts: 234 |

I have reviewed your level and the introduction is perfect, the development is basntante stealth, make perfectly recreated that atmosphere, in some areas was difficult to see which had to be done but I still think that with patience discover every corner to ensure that tines to go. You need time to check this level and I found it interesting that there is good in the long level that keeps you connected to the control to know what will happen next. I have given :star::star::star::star::star: F4F: https://lbpcentral.lbp-hub.com/index.php?t=26126-Enchanted-adventure | 2010-05-14 16:19:00 Author: psyntens Posts: 562 |
[div=overflow:auto;]Farewell Ruins of the Moon: Chapter OneAbstractSam (If you have an SDTV or if the level is too dark, raise up your gamma in the settings.) NO. I really hate when people do that. I'm not messing around with my TV settings which are perfect just because people like you make their levels too dark. You've got plenty of scope with the global lighting settings. Just make the level light enough in the first place. | 2010-05-14 16:34:00 Author: mistervista Posts: 2210 |

You can't expect people to tailor their level to suit everyone... The level looks great! I'll give it a try when I'm next on LBP! | 2010-05-14 16:51:00 Author: Rhys125 Posts: 841 |

Wow! Judging from the pics this looks awesome! Can't wait to play it ill give you feedback. PS: i think he was talking about the gamma settings in the game itself when you press the start menu, not the TV settings | 2010-05-15 10:12:00 Author: thi766 Posts: 135 |
Here's what I thought about your level. First off, the visuals were amazing. Seriously, the cutscenes were pure art, and I'd never seen anything like it before in LBP. Also, the scenarios looked superb. The place really looked like an abandoned, decadent facility. Kudos about the ridiculous amount of detail and the flawless use of the 3D glitch. That must have taken AGES to make. Overall, the atmosphere was really involving. As for the gameplay, well, it is a puzzle level. I don't exactly like puzzle levels, but I could see how well-crafted everything was. The puzzles were very creative, if a bit hard to figure out sometimes. I liked the part where you have to make the floor crumble down. Well, I would normally give this level 4 stars, but the excellent visuals raise the mark to 5 stars. If I rated this level less than 5 stars, I would feel like I'm being unfair. | 2010-05-15 18:21:00 Author: figuer39 Posts: 108 |
Thanks for the feedback, peeps. Sorry to those of you who are having problems opening the B Floor. I can't fix it because it works fine on mine and allot of other peoples game apparently. Maybe it's a 1/1000 chance of happening. D: | 2010-05-15 19:21:00 Author: AbstractSam Posts: 332 |
Ok , i played it and.. it was absolutely epic. The visuals were amazing because the layer glitch was used perfectly, and the background was awesome almost everywhere in the level. I liked the way you collect keys for doors until you entered all rooms that was great and kept interest into playing the level. I really liked the story it was really emotional (lol), and i like the way the player has like a dream in the middle of the level. I know this is probably a 1player level but unfortunately i played it with friends so we had a few problems especially at the stairs in the building, the camera angles weren't completely activated so it was difficult walking up the steppes so we had to press retry a few times but that's not really a problem since i should have played it alone. Also the custom music when you read the letter was very well made. I really liked the level i gave it :star::star::star::star::star: aswell as a <3 lol | 2010-05-15 22:02:00 Author: thi766 Posts: 135 |
Ok i played it today and the visuals and cut-scenes are great but it's too dark to appreaciate them fully your design for seto and the girl was great, they looked awesome good visuals but still the dark -and-filthy atmosphere is really not my cup of tea about the gameplay: I found it to be boring - tons of backtracking by tediously climbing up and down stairs, - some fun plataforming but to get to the plataforming you need to walk and climb stairs and it just makes it tedious - the puzzles were not that challenging to be interesting - The city part was really boring, nothing happened and i don't consider seeing good visuals as a proper way to have fun Anyway this is all just my opinion Abstractsam, don't take it personally as i don't mean to offend you in any way ok i rated :star::star::star::star: good job | 2010-05-16 03:43:00 Author: Racroz Posts: 406 |

Like I said, this level is more of an introduction level. I wanted to introduce the players to the characters and the story more then anything. I promise you next level will be filled with more gameplay. | 2010-05-16 04:41:00 Author: AbstractSam Posts: 332 |
Thanks for the feedback! I thought your use of 3D was very good. A few places looked unfinished or rushed. I'm guessing maybe you had some thermo issues but you sure packed alot into it. I agree with some I have read here, too many stairs not enough going on. give us some bubbles while we walk if nothing else. The look and atmosphere are very good but some could have used a bit more work like your cars. your library looked strange with the floor and the book cases the same material and I didnt like the visible led lights on the front layer at the floor level. Your actual story was excellent! I thought you did a great job, I gave it 4 stars and hearted it | 2010-05-16 06:50:00 Author: AJnKnox Posts: 518 |
I played it but I couldn't finish it. Bad: -Layer problem in stairway: if you try to jump to the stair in backround you WILL drop down from middlelayer, because the fence there makes you swich layer. -I could not find any door that opens after I got key in old mans room. Good: +Atmosphere: Dark and creepy. Critic: :star::star::star::star: in part you have to put lights on in room I kinda awaited a puzzle. Great level keep these coming! | 2010-05-16 11:15:00 Author: FreeAim Posts: 2462 |
Great level detail! Sadly, because you used the 3d layer glitch, there is a chance you might not get to have your level in LBP 2. I liked that I felt alone in the level kind of how the story wants it to be. Why did everybody disappear?/What did the character survive? Hopefully I get the answers later on although I would like them either at the beginning unless you make the character not understand either but only learns it later Also I felt like there wasn't much platforming to the level. I felt like I was watching a short TV program with a deep story. :star::star::star::star: and a <3 | 2010-05-16 13:58:00 Author: Tomeh999 Posts: 763 |

I left the lights there for a hint for the puzzle.. *I also fixed the stairs, making it easier to go up and down, and added a bit more detail in the stairway area. BTW, where exactly are these "unfinished" "rush" 3D parts? @Tomeh999: No doubt you'll learn more about the story as time goes on. I wanted to fit as much as I could of a story without sacrificing that much gameplay, and apparently you say that there wasn't much gameplay. So if I put more into the story like you said, it would of sacrificed gameplay. So bear with me, It's a long series. The story will be opened up more as you go on. | 2010-05-16 16:15:00 Author: AbstractSam Posts: 332 |
Hey I played this earlier. I thought it was really nice and I loved the use of the layer glitch. Visually it was really fantastic. As for the puzzles I thought they were slightly repetitive being you had to drag something, jump etc. Although not sure that's a problem as I can't really see some big mechanical type thing it is set in ruins after all! I thought you really nailed the ruins look. Nothing was buggy or broken in my eyes it worked a charm. Having said that, and maybe this was me being lazy because I was eating crackers lol but the stairs seemed too much effort. I would have liked if I could run straight up and this would also remove the fact that occasionally a jump up would auto layer and throw me back a layer or something causing me to fall down. The solution I think is to put a slope of thin invisible rubber or dark matter on each set of stairs, not sure exactly how that might end up looking but if done right I think it could look like you are still running up stairs and you could do it just holding a direction. Then the only other thing I thought would be nice is after the letter when running back down the stairs a few piano notes echoing to keep the the moodiness, because otherwise it's straight back into the churning sound of mechanical stuff and that takes you out of it. You could even mute the mechanical stuff or put other versions of the sound far away so it sounds much quieter while turning the originals off. Overall I really enjoyed it and loved the style. :star::star::star::star::star: + <3 Oh by the way the panda is doing well, he put on a few pounds. XD Feel free to check up on him I would love to know if you think he is looking a healthy weight or if I should add more. | 2010-05-16 17:07:00 Author: OneEyedBanshee Posts: 1370 |
When you leave the 1st building and go outside the area there looks kind of strange (the 3d here is what I was talking about) is it a wall is it a hillside...then you get close to the next building it almost looks like a fence but really fat I guess thats what looks strange to me is its thickness. Oh I meant to say before the Thing you have to climb on to get up in the second building is really too hard to move took me 2 min just to drag it to where it needed to be. Make it a bit lighter or a partial glass bottom maybe. These are just my thoughts. I really did like it | 2010-05-16 18:30:00 Author: AJnKnox Posts: 518 |
@OneEyedBanshee: Thanks for the suggestion, I'll definitely have that in mine next time I use stairs. Unfortunately, I can't add dark matter though because the level is overheated. D: LMAO, good, good. Make sure the panda gets its vitamins. xD @AJnKnox: Ever been on the roof of an observatory? They have large wall like fences. And that thing you had to drag, I did put glass at the bottom. I'll try making it a little lighter though, however it might toppel over if it's too light. Ok, just finished this, and I really liked it. Pros -great atmosphere, 3d work -cut scenes looked great -good story -custom song at the end was a nice touch Cons -stairs between floors were really frustrating, nothing really you can do though -floor 1 was pretty frustrating, I don't even know what I was supposed to do, I just blundered through and managed to solve it -getting killed for cut scenes bugs me, because I can't ace it, but that's kind of nitpicky Great level, I gave 5 stars and a heart! | 2010-05-17 02:17:00 Author: thekevinexpress Posts: 256 |
Really enjoyed this level even though I didn't get to finish it Great use of the 3d background layers and the mood you set was extremely well done. The reading of the letter and having music playing was something that really stood out for me. Wished I could have finished it, I'll give it another try another time. Keep up the great work dude bc I can tell that you are seriously getting better at creating. Gave it a :star::star::star::star::star: and a <3. | 2010-05-17 19:46:00 Author: damaz10 Posts: 771 |
Played your level the other day, and I must say you have improved big time on creating. I had no problems with it being to dark this time, it was just dark enough to see where I was going (does that even make sense??). Very nice use of the 3d layer glitch, you really nailed the mood on this one. The cutscenes where cool as well. On to some minor issues I had with the level: - The stairs...well it's mentioned before, I really got frustrated at this part that I kept falling down when trying to climb up. - The puzzles where a bit repetitive, boring to me. But on the other hand they fitted well in the level, so it isn't the worst thing 4:star: and a <3 from me. Keep up the good work! | 2010-05-17 21:49:00 Author: Serph Posts: 53 |
I played this level after I recently updated my newest level and I really liked it. It had an awesome use of the layer glitch because it really blew my mind with so much detail of the post-apocalyptic city and the lighting is cool. The silhouette of the main character and the other character really tells an odd story and the scoreboard area cracked me up because I almost died of that collapsing pillar. One thing could be better though is that the moving machine in a power generator floor because it's really hard to pull and push it. Overall, this level deserves 5 stars and a heart and thanks for a feedback that really cleaned up the visuals of my recent level. | 2010-05-24 00:36:00 Author: JustinArt Posts: 1314 |

Sam, first off thanks for the feedback on my level. I have to say this kind of level is not my cup of tea, but I think you did it very well. The visuals were pretty good but there were some rough spots in the interiors that could probably use just a little polish. I thought you used music to set the mood very well. I did think it was a tad too dark in the stairwell but other than that the lighting was good and especially outside the lighting was good. | 2010-05-25 04:14:00 Author: Unknown User |
Well, just as i expected, from looking at the pictures and playing the level, it was great, excellent story, and good use of puzzles and lighting, plus the scenes were excellent too! 5 :star: <3 | 2010-05-26 01:20:00 Author: MaxFromLi Posts: 30 |
I just played this, and it was excellent in terms of narrative and visuals. It was very atmospheric and absorbing. The story seems to be off to a great start. The note that you discover from the old man was truely emotional, and a bit saddening. I know this is supposed to be more of an adventure-type level, but to be honest, I felt really bored at parts, but maybe this is because of the genre. All of the real complaints I can give you are in concept, and as Jagevri told me once on his Ama Toor project, complaining about something conceptually is probably useless to the creator. I'm just not in the mood for an adventure level, I think. I'm in an instant gratificiation mood. I'm in the mood for running and jumping. Still, I know a good level when I see one and this was no exception. I'm looking forward to the next in the series. I gave it four stars and a heart, though I acknowledge that, being in a more adventure game mindset, I may have liked it more. Sorry, but I guess I'm just in the mood for some running, jumping and shooting. Oh and sorry for taking so long to give you feedback. But Red Dead Redemption...you know how it is. | 2010-05-27 11:47:00 Author: qrtda235566 Posts: 3664 |
AbstractSam, I was going to return the favor of F4F with a ridiculously long wall of text explaining why I love this level so much, but instead I will say a short synopsis of my praise and record the rest of it (along with your level) for a video on YouTube and my next LittleBigShowcase. Your artistry, poetic story, emotion, and atmosphere are immaculate. I cannot wait for the continuation of the story. I truly am baffled by just how impressive this level is, and in so many aspects. While this is not a sufficient F4F, expect the video to be awesome. I hope that that will be enough praise compared to how lacking this post was. Hopefully I can have the video up by tomorrow night. I loved your level so much that I probably will meet that goal (usually I say I will have something done by a date...but I never do because of procrastination and sleep) and have it up soon for everyone's enjoyment. This really is a level that everyone should check out. | 2010-05-28 00:15:00 Author: obsoleteXeo Posts: 134 |

Sweeeet. There aren't enough of these sorts of moody levels. The friend I was playing it with online wasn't really diggin' it, but I was pretty sucked in The Good stuff : - Kick *** sillhouettes...what else did you want me to say? - Domination of the 3d layer glitch in this level, that must have been a nightmare for you to wrangle this level to completion! - Nice use of sound. Your choice to not use any music was wise. I don't know if it was just the ambience of the level, or if you put deliberate sound effects in, but the odd whoosh of wind and sounds of crickets was goood. - The water in the sewers section was nicely used, I like how it was purely decoration but still interactable with, in the form of splashes Stuff to think about : - That platforming, in places, was a bit finnickty. Specifically, the bit (in floor 2 ? maybe? ) where you pull the green dispensor thingy (the one with red buttons) to the left, that was tough going. It might be worth making that lighter. Also, the stairs were a bit of a nightmare sometimes, going down is fine, going up was a bit annoying. You should remove a few of the the bottom hand rails at each landing, so that you can get sucked into the back layer when you want to start going up, rather than having to manually move back. Stairs are a bit of annoyance to a lot of people in levels, so you need to make them as easy as possible - The sewers section seemed a little...empty... It might have been because it was brighter than most of the rest of the level, but in comparison to the beauty that came before, a section that empty really stood out for me. - It'd be a hassle to go back and do it now, but i'd reccommend in future using cutscene camera magic mouths, using a bit of logic so that they turn themselves off after an amount of time. When I was watching the cutscene at the begining, the speech bubbles were mounting up, and I wasn't sure if I had to cancel the one I was reading or not. I didn't want to miss anything. So yeah, pretty hot level here guys, :star::star::star::star::star: and <3 | 2010-05-28 03:16:00 Author: Asbestos101 Posts: 1114 |

Man this is a looker! Fantastic use of lighting, layer glitch, and stickering. I also like that you chose no music. I always have music blaring away in my levels, and the absence of it here really lent to that feeling of post-apocalyptic solitude. Good call. I love the silhouettes and the story too. I'm with Asbestos though - the two criticisms I was going to bring to the table, he has already pointed out. The object/device that you need to drag to the left (on 3F ??) is too heavy. Either make it lighter or give it a base of really thin glass. And the steps were a right pain. With the really small step design you are employing you could utilize a technique I've seen in a few other levels (Lara Cloth: Tomb Raider - Helgardh, by Kiminski as an example). An invisible/thin plane of DM laid across the steps. Your steps are small enough that it will hardly be noticeable that you're not actually standing on the steps themselves, but then going up them becomes a matter of just running - no jumping involved. Works really well and looks great when done right. But aside from those criticisms, the level is fantastic. Very moody, surreal yet realistic, and beautiful. Great job! :star::star::star::star: <3 and tagged: Beautiful | 2010-05-29 17:51:00 Author: v0rtex Posts: 1878 |

Hello I was looking for good levels on... er, Cool Pages ( ) when I came across yours a bit further. ? Oh, less than 200 plays ! Probably another awesome level people ignore to play a race ? I said. Well, I was right I've got way worse levels that got more plays It's one of the most pleasant level I've ever played so far. I'd buy the game on Wii if I had that console, as I've loved Eternal Sonata. I won't say anything about the visuals as it's obvious the sceneries are really stunning. I liked the progress of the level, I mean, finding the keys first, then visiting each room. It's less boring than just progressing straight as usual. Oh, and the bit with the letter... I did enjoy it ! Well, actually, it made me a bit sad, but it was a real success. Having created the music yourself is a very good effort. :star::star::star::star::star: + <3 ^^ | 2010-05-30 11:57:00 Author: Oddmania Posts: 1305 |
Excellent level, the visuals we're great, now I can see why you said mine we're bland, I was comparing to lots of bad levels but once I see yours, wow. I can see the problem with the stairs Asbestos mentioned but I had no problem with the I think it was a generator? on the floor where you had to pull it, it was meant to be heavy right? All in all, excellent level. I made the amount of hearts on your level a clean 50, woot! | 2010-05-30 17:19:00 Author: ElementalPenguin Posts: 83 |
Alright, I made the moveable-generator lighter. I would fix the stairs, but the level overheats after he first/second set. | 2010-05-31 22:08:00 Author: AbstractSam Posts: 332 |
It was....creative. The story line struck me as a little over the top, because I like a little bit more of a relaxed environment. It was well designed, although there were a few places that were over complicated and hard to navigate through. The darkness was over bearing at several points, and I couldn't figure out where I was or see buttons, switches, ect. The props in the building were nice, and working your way through the building was kind of neat. :star: :star: :star: :star: | 2010-06-03 23:41:00 Author: Sonic42 Posts: 19 |
ok the level , as said above, had great visuals. the story was.....interesting, although I'm not entirely sure what was going on most of the time. it might be an idea to maybe put a backing story to it somewhere to explain, or maybe thats part of the mystery of the series, I don't know. The stairs were a real pain! I kept getting sucked down instead of up! the gameplay was a tad boring. all there realy was to do was wander about and read speach bubbles. I know it was suposed to be like that but I prefer more danger and exitment, but hey, For what it was it was great, If a little boring. 4 stars from me | 2010-06-04 13:56:00 Author: Smudge228 Posts: 533 |
Wow! The level of detail in this is simply overwhelming. The scattered bits of paper on the floors, the trees -- just gorgeous. I did not care that the game play wasn't very difficult. The story writing was excellent, and the atmosphere was terrific. No trouble to report either. I think I'll run back through again just to study the details more. Ohh, one very small note of criticism. I thought your cars could have looked a bit better, but I am being very nitpicky here. Awesome level! | 2010-06-04 19:50:00 Author: thanatos989 Posts: 248 |
Ohh, one very small note of criticism. I thought your cars could have looked a bit better, but I am being very nitpicky here. Awesome level! Yes, I agree. I actually used a car from an earlier level I was trying to create to save time and thermo. | 2010-06-04 21:29:00 Author: AbstractSam Posts: 332 |

I usually get annoyed by long chains of un-skippable speech bubbles, but the writing was good enough to make me forget that I wasn't being allowed to play. In fact, I think this is the fist level I've ever played where I wasn't annoyed by the dialog, so kudos on that. At the beginning when it was so dark I couldn't see anything, I was sure I was going to hate this level (I get the whole thing where you use lighting for environmental effects, but you can only take it so far before it impacts gameplay), and it did annoy be for a while, but it wasn't so bad that it was level breaking. Your use of the 50 layer glitch made for some very good visual designs: I loved the look of all the rooms and stuff; but there were times when it was a bit confusing. Since there was stuff in the very first unplayable background layer that looked exactly like the stuff in the playable layers, I kept trying to jump on boxes and stuff that weren't available to be jumped on. It's a minor nitpick and not overly detrimental to the experience (though it would absolutely break a more actiony platformer level). The stairs. Ugh! I hated the stairs. I actually hate all stairs in little big planet: sackboy just wasn't built to walk up stairs. My suggestion: lay an invisible ramp right on top of them so the player can just walk right up them, or better yet, if you can get your hands on some, use some "dead" walk through material to construct the stairs. Sackboy will go right through them like they're not even there. Then use the compression tool (https://lbpcentral.lbp-hub.com/index.php?t=24434-Merging-Objects-or-Materials-aka-Compression-Tool) to insert an invisible ramp into the stairs and you'll be able to keep the visual effect of having stairs, and sackboy won't appear to be hovering above them (though his feet will probably sink into them a tiny bit). In old sprite-based 2d games, that's pretty much how they did it: if you play Castlevania: SOTN, you can see that Alucard just moves diagonally up the stairs and his feet even go through them a little. I really liked the key system. At first I was nervous because I had community prizes turned off and I thought I might've missed picking up a sticker that I would need, but it turned out that the door just worked for me after getting the key. Very nice. The letter from Seto actually made me a bit sad: very well written. Overall, an excellent level. I even liked it enough to forgive the mandatory deaths (I hate when the level forces you to die so you can teleport). | 2010-06-05 03:49:00 Author: Sehven Posts: 2188 |
Just played through your level and i thought the visuals were pretty nice although your use of materials can make things look very messy at times. Your 3d layer usage is rather affective, it gives a great sense of depth to the environment. The atmoshpere was great although it would have been nice to have a little music in the background whilst running and jumping about the middle section of the level. I enjoyed the story, it's quite engaging but the gameplay for me got borring very quikly, find a key then open a door and find another key and so on. Also i was quite annoyed with the amount of stair climbing that had to be done (i'm not playing the game for a intense staircase work out). I liked the letter at the end, it was well written and catpured the emotion of the situation very well, but you then ruined it by giving me another key and making me go down all those darn stairs again. I'm intrigued at the concept of featuring the mall as a location for the next level, that could precent some very nice puzzles and visuals. And poor seto, left all alone again at the end, poor guy. It was a great level. Felt nothing like lbp. I loved the whole "searching for keys to explore the building" section. The visuals were extremely good. The 3d glitch makes it seem even less like lbp. Also, the cutscenes looked great and ran very smoothly. You did a good job of making the level not confusing, yet with little guidance. One con was that the stairs got annoying going up and down over and over, and they sometimes didn't want to let me go where i wanted. Otherwise great level. :star::star::star::star::star: | 2010-06-14 15:47:00 Author: Nuffles Posts: 132 |
Hi! I Played your level today! It was beautiful and cinematics worked. And good use of the 3D glitch, lots of stuff here and there I liked that how you used piano sounds as music, at the part where you read the letter. The building with the stairs was little clumsy to jump up and I didn't see well in some places, setting brightness helped a little, but not much. I got in the library for a few seconds stuck under one of the shelvings that had fallen over me, but managed to get of it without popping myself. Great story, visuals and look, just missed some action, maybe introduction level doesn't need so much, but do more! :star::star::star::star: | 2010-06-16 14:51:00 Author: Unknown User |
This level was pretty inspirational. Thank you for that. Only advice I have for your future levels is less back-tracking and more atmosphere and story. I really don't see why you should put more action if the story does not demand it. It is really sad how all levels need to have jumping parts to be appreciated. Bah, your story should be emotional and involving. Including platforming bits into it would only be tacked on for "better gameplay". | 2010-06-17 21:10:00 Author: Stampy Posts: 86 |
I have never seen one use the 3d glitch so well! I was speechless! I loved the scenery/ environment. I loved the 5 story building and the puzzle that went along with it! The stairs were a little difficult to get up and down, but I managed. Time to play the next one! :star::star::star::star::star: and <3 | 2010-08-21 05:35:00 Author: ShamgarBlade Posts: 1010 |
OK, here we go... Beautiful opening sequence and title screen. I always love tiny lights. Great lighting! I don't mind the stairs so much, but most folks here seem to like their stairs bigger. Background details are meticulously incredible.. Between this and Dragon Slayer, I've seen the best 3-D work ever in this game in a mere 2 days. Some doors open and some doors locked.. Lots of explorability here. I like how some of the boxes are just part of the scenery, and some things that look like just part of the scenery are integral to progress. Well done! Nice breaking floor, but it might look better if some of the pieces were a little jaggy. Definitely not a biggy, though.... this level is amazing! Love how you used the water in the basement to make the floor wet, without making me swim. Very nice use of it. All in all, it's a deep and very well structured level. There's an anime influence and an almost oppressive sadness to the story that really aren't my style. You'll see when you do my F4F that I tend to lean more toward humor and camp. No fault there, though... apples and oranges. The level is fantastic, and a little later, I'll be on to part 2! :star::star::star::star::star: Please F4F me on Invasion of the Sack Men From Space! psn: SpeedyMcKnuckles | 2010-08-21 19:11:00 Author: SpeedyMcKnuckles Posts: 331 |
Thanks for the feedback, I'm glad I got that anime feel to it, that's what I was aiming for. Ill go and check out your level. | 2010-08-29 17:06:00 Author: AbstractSam Posts: 332 |
Very interesting level. I loved the detailed visuals and your use of music and sound. I thought the storytelling was really well done, and the cutscenes and effects were great.
