So did anybody else notice...

In the video I swear I saw what looked like a moving water material. Its first seen as hexagons behind the game where a ball is shot for points. Its then seen as an outline of where the game with the glowing white boxes is. If you pay attention, the material looks water-like and all of it flows into one area. An answer to realistic waterfalls, perhaps? | 2010-05-11 19:53:00 Author: RottenAvocado Posts: 319 |
as confirmed by shermzor from sackcast.com there will be animated materials such as the water one you mentioned also animated skins | 2010-05-11 20:09:00 Author: samalot Posts: 591 |
Animated textures, also confirmed by game trailers | 2010-05-11 20:41:00 Author: Shadowriver Posts: 3991 |

I wonder if there will be an animated texture that will work well for tank treads. Instead of making all the individual links, which are extremely breakable and take up a fair amount of thermo, we could just make a solid tank tread object that will look like an animated tread when you're driving. | 2010-05-11 20:50:00 Author: Sehven Posts: 2188 |
I think they should have just made jello or rubbery materials that can bend, those would work well for tank treads. (It would probably be very buggy and prone to physics miscalculations, but it would be neat. | 2010-05-11 23:08:00 Author: Karkle Posts: 11 |
Not sure if you understand what I meant, Karkle. I meant that the tank tread would be a completely solid, non-moving object. It could have a texture map/bump map that is animated to make it look like it's moving. Back in my Halo 2 hacking days, I noticed that that was how the tank treads worked in halo: it was just a solid 3d mesh with a moving shader. That would be great in lbp, 'cuz we could make treads that work perfectly and don't break. In fact, I suspect it wouldn't be difficult at all for Mm to make a tank tread/conveyor belt material just for that purpose. You could shape it just like any other material and its speed could be tweaked and switches could be hooked to it, and it could even work as the vehicle's propulsion (though that last bit might be a bit more complex with the lbp engine). | 2010-05-12 00:01:00 Author: Sehven Posts: 2188 |

Extremely breakable? you have obviously never seen my tracks. I will admit it is very difficult to find a design that works well, but some of the ones i have made or come across are more than strong enough. also most of the problem with that is tracks breaking is that people make the tank way to heavy and the tracks can't support the weight. just thinking of it though it would be cool if there was a "Belt" type material similar to that of elastic band that could bend around objects and stuff. that would be cool especially if you could adjust the "bendiness, and "stretchiness" of it. | 2010-05-12 04:21:00 Author: horwitzer Posts: 255 |
