Completely UNexcited for LBP2

Archive: 22 posts

ok, now that i grabbed your attention with my completely over-reacting thread title, I must ask you. Are you disappointed? I mean, we were all hoping it was going to be a 3D game, so that the LBP original doesn't lose it's community. I can already imagine there being only about 20 people online, no more moderation, they make the rules, type deal. idk, it just seems like a bad place.

Am i over-reacting? no. i've seen it before. will this happen in LBP? who knows...

While the original LBP will lose a large portion of it's community, the community itself will not go anywhere, if that makes sense. With LBP2 being able to play all LBP1 levels, all this game really is is just an extention of LBP. Sure, it's a ?40 extention, but with only a small preview of these new tools to create with the game really has taken a huge step forward and it is clearly worth the asking amount. I seriously can't wait for this game... makes me look at LBP in a whole new way. This is going to be a painful wait!2010-05-11 03:29:00

This won't happen. TRUST ME.
A lot of people aren't considering 3d or not: there are more things that have been added to make lbp 2 glorious.
But are you unhappy with the sequel?
EDIT:Oh, you're talking the original? Nah, Ryan's right.

Hahaha, very clever way to pull me into this thread!

To be honest, with the new info, I'm relieved more than worried. At first we all thought it was going to be some giant, full 3D game creator that barely resembles the original, and that really worried me. However, knowing that it will be totally backwards compatible with LBP1 is very comforting, and I'm glad to know I won't need to completely relearn the creation tools again.

Instead of being disappointed should be much more happy LBP 2 will not lose anything you have done in LBP instead increase your levels of quality and you have many more options, this is good stuff and tools that will help you do many things that before was impossible to get them, do not be pessimistic in this era as well tell me what does not change? all games are going to have more quality, the consoles are upgraded, the controls have other attributes that were not used and so on. You'll see how LBP 2 will have the same hit I had, you'll still see your friends online and do many great things.

You can not say anything bad about this because I do not even have in your hands.

You were hoping, not me.
I love LBP because it's 2D.
After than that I don't care what the community does.
If they're smart they'll just the ship because the cool creators will have even more stuff to make more incredible things.

Actually, I thought this was what it should have been all along, although I didn't anticipate anywhere near the scope of what they are doing. Also, like omega, I didn't really want it to be a complete engine overhaul, I was hoping for an extension to the features, with backwards compatibility.

If we would have had a new 3d game or something equally different, then the community would be even more segregated now than it will be before, we would have effectively had 2 games to choose between, or spread our efforts between. Overall the community would have suffered from this. As it stands, people will gradually (or quite rapidly) make the switch to the sequel and not really look back. The community will still be a whole, with only a few stragglers left behind - which is far better than spreading the talent across multiple platforms

That many?!

Nah, i doubt they comunity will be split (since all will be buying LBP2 ) but even id they do, i doubt LBP1 would be an abondoned disolated place like you said, sure population would drop, but not THAT bad (at first) maybe a couple of years after most people bbuy "2" but i doubt it will happen in a short term period of time so no worries m8.

The community will not lose anything because both games are on the same servers.
So the community will only get even larger, and this is in my opinion the best choice MM could do, because If there would have been a completely new game the community would have split in 2 parts and lbp1 would have been played by a smaller ammount of people. Also the creators would have been extremely upset to lose all their hardworked creations, therfore i think its perfect thats it 100% compatible. Also if you only have lbp1 you will be compelled to buy lbp2 for the maximal experience so that will help MM gaining money, so you cannot just stay with lbp1 and experience the maximum

There is absolutely nothing to worry about!!! They cant split the community with the way they are doing things! They take all the levels from LBP1 And send them over to LBP2 Quite Frankly, Wouldn't that mean any new levels made in LBP1 Will Be available in LBP2? 3D? LBP dosent need it... I would want it anyways... Unless you would... But it would kinda ruin The game! And Compared to LBP1 LBP2... There are a loaaadddd more stuff that are in LBP2 Then 1 so just relax! No worries!2010-05-11 13:51:00

I think of LBP2 as an expansion pack, because quite frankly, that is all it is. It is just an expansion pack that was too big to fit into DLC. It will be the same game everyone knows and loves except with a boatload of new features and tools! The bigger thermometer is just gilding the lily. The community isn't going anywhere, heck the only place its going is into the larger numbers!2010-05-11 14:22:00

I got LBP on launch day and it's served me literally hundreds of hours of entertainment. I think with the improvements and expanded possibilities of LBP2 it will be ?40 incredibly well spent. I'm sure even a tramp could save up ?40 between now and winter so I don't see the problem. Compare LBP1 and LBP2 against stuff like EA Sports Title 09 and EA Sports Title 10.2010-05-11 16:34:00

For me to be annoyed and maybe lose my excitement would be for them to neglect again some aspects no one care about. Like:

-Properly promote your stuff and make so it finds its intended audience
-Proper rating system, not 3 on top of each other like in LBP
-Trophies that AREN'T encouraging bad behaviors (removing as much as competitive aspects as possible!)
-True moderation system and not just a **** picture.

Completely agree with that, although I am not that excited to begin with.

I think a good compromise would be to be able to customise the dimesions. I know this is a noobish qustion but: By 3D do you mean 3D glasses or unlimited layers. If you mean the second one then my idea would be to allow the player to decide wheather it's 2D or 3D. That way lovers of the original will be kept happy and those who want more features can enjoy there 3D. I know nothing about programming so maybe it would require a lot of memory to pull it off but if it could be done then i think it would be good.2010-05-20 18:39:00
