LBP2 supports keyboard and mouse for creating!

Speaking to the website, creative director Mark Healey explained why Media Molecule use the SixAxis to create the officially packaged levels: ?The funny thing is that the PC tools we were using were quite crap, to be honest, a pain in the ****, and it got to the point where the pop-it in Create mode was actually much better.?

?Obviously, we?ve really embraced that now, and from scratch [on LBP2] we?ve only been using that to create stuff,? he added. ?Which is the obvious thing to do really because it forces us to make the improvements that mean you can do things better and faster, so it's real-time playtesting of it, if you like. But something we?ve also added is keyboard and mouse support for the PS3, so you can draw things and navigate Pop-it with a mouse and stuff.?

This is AMAZING news! Discuss.

I am really excited to see what people do with this feature, but i am perfectly fine with the PS3 controller I can't even use paint without drawing what looks to be a poorly drawn pile of poop (yes im being literal)2010-05-11 01:13:00

I wonder if it would be easier to use the corner editing tool with a Sixaxis or a mouse...2010-05-11 01:30:00

I think I would prefer the controller for general editing, but you can probably hook up a tablet and draw, which will be useful.2010-05-11 01:41:00

I only see myself using this if...

A. The corner editor is still poo. (See how slow that thing is on LBP1? Using a mouse, you could control a speed.)
B. Shortcut keys? ALT + S opens up stickers, CTRL + C Copies and object...
C. It's mouse wheel compatible. I don't care how, just feel it should be used.

Yeh, thar's mah opineeonz.

EDIT: Simultaneous posts with the same point for the win. VVVVVV

If the mouse wheel zoom and we control the speed of stuff by the mouse movement (corner editor example up there), I would like it.

Otherwise I sure wouldn't bother, having a keyboard near the couch is already cumbersome, I wouldn't like to add a tablet for the mouse.

I would still prefer the controller as that's what it was made for. Its more hands on I think.2010-05-13 00:36:00

I'm not interested in the mouse, the pad works well enough. As for corner editing, you can press the shoulder buttons to jump around vertices, and if you're not on a vertice, can you just cancel the tool and move to the another one.

If you can use a keyboard to type the length of pistons etc etc then I'm all for it

I'm really excited about this. I think I'd be able to create much faster with a mouse (especially if they allow you to change the scrolling speed).2010-05-19 00:32:00

Yes!!! Sounds like the mouse will be the equivalent to my oh so lovely Corner Editor, but much faster! 2010-05-19 00:39:00

One of the reasons why I usually don't finish levels.
Mouse + keyboard is less cumbersome. I'm going to try to use a tablet instead, as well.

I'd say that tablets are unlikely to work. In terms of hardware LBP2 can only support what the PS3 does...and as far as I know it doesn't support tablets.2010-05-19 20:16:00

Well things like the Intuos and Bamboo I believe work through USB input in the same manner that mice do. They are basically mouse replacements. I'd be curious to try it out.

Either way, this is great news. Can't wait.
