Music In LBP2?

Archive: 30 posts

Sine the odds are that the music in LBP2 will double in quantity, (Due to the LBP1 songs being in there too*) what kind of music do you think will, or should be added?

In my opinion, I think LBP could use...

Something that seems frantic. Really fast paced. (Like Fiddler's Elbow in LBPPSP)
Something kinda heavy, that could be used in disaster-cutscenes or the likes...
Something aquatic, kinda like the underwater theme from Donkey Kong Country...
Something 8-Bit, reminiscent to arcade games.
My Advice!
The Orb Of Dreamers!
Some circus-type music. (Uhm... I can dream right?)
Something really light and ambient, think Pikmin music.
Some kind of wintery tune, complete with jingling bells.
Something knights-and-castles-y. (I couldn't spell "Mid-Evil" properly...)
More army music.
Spooky halloween music.

I think I got carried away. Any other suggestions?

*Just an assumption on my part. LBP1 levels would be nothing without the music, right?)

On the LBP2 website, it says one of the new features is being able to compose your own music. 2010-05-11 00:48:00

"Through a familiar but revamped Popit, you can bring your characters to life, compose your own music, direct cinematic masterpieces, wire controllers directly in to your contraptions, connect easy to use switches, microchips and circuit boards to build epic bosses, vehicles, machines, and puzzles."

All those people who make music levels are gonna be a LOT more popular in LBP2!2010-05-11 06:53:00

I think Mm wanted to keep the music sequencing factor in online levels but make it so much easier for people to use. Instead of having tons of sound objects attached to mag keys, they're having a complete music composition tool at your disposal. This should really help levels become more unique.2010-05-11 08:14:00

Who said anything about a 'complete music composition tool'?

I think what it means is you're able to create music in exactly the same way as before (possibly slightly easier), but you can condense the whole thing into a microchip, which obviously you'll then be able to share with people to use in their own levels.

Oooo, hello! Is somebody looking at me!

Methinks I had better warn Khalith that he may be required!

I have to admit, the prospect of added benefits in the music department is rather exciting!

I think that's the trick - that custom music will now be condensible into a microchip. I bet a few creators will be able to make something like a cool tone matrix to share with people - basically an easy-to-manipulate tool for customizing your own music. For a while I was hoping Mm would just include their own option like this, but you know what? It's probably not all that hard to make from scratch and squeeze into a microchip, so someone's probably going to do this!

I'm gonna guess it will have an actual in-depth music making tool. Like MTV Music Generator lite. I remember before LBP came out they said they wanted to do this, but decided against it.

It seems like now they're adding in a bunch of things that 2 years ago they thought would be too complex for most people. I think the community really exceeded the expectations MM had before LBP was released. Now we are being rewarded.

Yeah, that's what I was thinking because to start off with the LBP create kit can be quite confusing and even once you master it there's the process of creating something that isn't crap. It's like that was the beginners creators kit and now we get the intermediate kit.

Well in edge magazine scans they say that for one of the areas "the music is Deodato's rendition of Richard Strauss' Also Sprach Zarathustra, that disco take on the piece made iconic by 2001: A Space Odyssey."

So this?

Not sure what I think about that as music to LBP.

I could totally see this getting some use. The 2001 theme is so iconic, I love it.

Yeah I love the 2001 music myself, just this version was a little bit odd to me at first. But it's growing on me, especially love when it kicks in. Between that and Infontain Me the music seems to be taking a different direction, I like it!2010-05-11 23:02:00

Well, it doesn't say put your own music in, but compose your own music, which you can somewhat already do in LBP1.

Besides, official music almost always sounds 20x better. Even if it had a full composer, I'd probably take the official stuff mostly. (Although some custom music is pretty epic, I've gotta hand it to the few geniuses out there.)

Well, I might have already made that suggestion, but I would really like to see Misteur Valaire in the new soundtrack. I mean, even their costumes would be great-looking in LBP!

Besides that, I would like more Go! Team. Maybe "The Wrath of Marcie", maybe something else...

If that's all it is, I'll be disappointed. (The idea of putting speakers in a chip is rad, though.) What we have now is very limiting. I'm hoping for a music tool... with quality sounds to work with. It has always been a dream of mine to compose music for movies and games, and LBP2 could give me that possibility. Make it happen MM!

If it said "composing" your own music, I'm pretty sure it's not our old way of making music. Sure, we technically did "compose" music in LBP1, but I thought of it more as "making music" (Though you may consider that as the same exact thing, I tend to disagree...)

And anyone thinking about an "official" music distribution level? People send in there own songs (You may be able to put them on microchips...???) to the host of the level via messaging them with the microchip as an attachment and they put it in the level, along with a prize bubble of it. That could be REALLY awesome.

I was actually hoping that the ability to import mp3, wav or another audio format would be part of the game. The possibility of creating a series of levels (or game) with original music as a means of releasing your album or promoting yourself would be absolutely awesome. It is asking a little too much, I know. But it would be great for artists to showcase their music. I would certainly try to hook up with some great level developers to put my music and concepts for a LBP game together.2010-08-06 18:20:00

I think the music composing tool will be the same as before, but instead of having to find the note with the pitch slider, there will be a C, D, E, F Sharp etc sound for every instrument.2010-08-06 18:49:00

The song sounds way different in-game. In fact, it sounds better:

music levels will be so much easier and sound 100x better in lbp2... i tried making a music lvl in lbp1 but failed epicly! it sounded like a 8 bit constipated cat in a microwave XD but in lbp2 even a horrible music creator like me could make a brilliant masterpeice! apparently its going to be the same sound objects way of making music but you dont need to make those cars and theres alot more good sounding sounds and you can shrink your song into a microchip!2010-08-06 21:53:00
