LittleBigPlanet 2 Questions and Answers

Archive: 3 posts

They everyone we all right now have a lot of question about LBP 2 but I found some information in 1 up.com some questions that they have and some Answers.

Question #1.
Little Big Planet 2 Music Announcements At E3?

During a recent press presentation for the official announcement of Little Big Planet 2, developer Media Molecule revealed a trailer showing off the sequel's new features set to a sampling of the very catchy Irish loop from Passion Pit's "Sleepyhead." Given that the first game's soundtrack was widely enjoyed, we took the opportunity to ask Media Molecule co-founder Alex Evans what we should expect from Little Big Planet 2's soundtrack.

Of the music, he says, "We've got a mixture again of in-house music and contracted music. It's got that same eclectic vibe. It's a little bit more, not electronic, but a little bit more funky than the first one -- more like indie guitars."

Unfortunately, that was about all he could tell us...for now. "We've got some new announcements about our music at E3," Evans says. "It's not all done yet -- not all nailed down, deals done or signed -- but the soundtrack's going to be awesome."

Question #2.

Little Big Planet 2 Also Coming To PSP?

If we take Little Big Planet as an example, from its initial release, to the subsequent DLC, and finally to the release of the user-generated content focused platformer on PSP, it's not too much of a stretch to think the sequel will follow a similar pattern. When asked about the possibility of Little Big Planet 2 on PSP, Media Molecule's co-founder Alex Evans answers, "I actually don't know what our plans are beyond LBP2, beyond that the model worked for us last time around."

He explains that "the way that [the game] wasn't 'done' when it was [shipped] is what we want to do again," because he thinks of the franchise as a sort of continuing service. "You have to approach LBP as 'starting' when you ship. Whether that means new platforms, or whether that means new SKUs...Personally, I hope so."

Question #3.

Why LBP2 Is A Retail Game And Not A DLC Expansion?

Little Big Planet has relied heavily on Media Molecule's continual release of downloadable content and community level additions, so the decision to release the sequel as a full retail item instead of a downloadable expansion may strike some as odd. We asked co-founder Alex Evans to explain some of the reasoning behind the decision.

"There are kind of two reasons," Evans says. "It's all predicated on [having] to make [the game] backwards compatible, which is huge and epic technically, and also quite unheard of in terms of all of the content that comes across. If we did DLC, [it'd be] a drip feed. If you wanna do 10 features at once and then holistically make a story that uses all of those together in all the different combinations, [retail's] the only way to do it. It has to be an event. We couldn't release a new story with all these tools, bit by bit by bit."

But the sequel's new features, cinematic creation tools, and six themes that are to be trussed up in this "holistic" bundle aren't the only reason. Evans continues: "I think the Blu-Ray is still the best way to reach a wider audience. DLC, in a way, is like preaching to the converted, you know? It's to people who want to evolve their experience. But LBP2 gives a new entry point for loads of people, and the people who have LBP1 get all the bonuses, they can keep all their stuff, and they don't lose anything."

Another is the playstation move implementation to the game. It would be too hard to put all that info into dlc and then along with what the guy said this makes it an awesome looking game.
