We've gone through the effort of breaking down the newly released announcement trailer for LittleBigPlanet 2, frame by delicious frame (http://www.flickr.com/photos/lbpcentral/sets/72157624034075378/). We used the raw 720p video to grab screenshots from, then went through each of the sixty (yes, sixty) notable screenshots and hand-captioned them. The result is a terrifyingly in-depth analysis of the video that was released earlier this morning, an analysis that will probably reveal quite a few things to you about LittleBigPlanet 2 that you hadn't noticed before. We suggest beginning with the very first screenshot and moving in order, so that you absorb the information in the same order as it is shown in the video. In any case, enjoy! Cool thanks for that!

I noticed more things from looking at those than I did from watching it like, what? 3-4 times?

In my opinion, I think it's safe to say that when the planet and moon turn red, it's because Mm's pop-it is red...?

And I haven't paid too much attention, but would that be the same with the grappling hook too?

I mean, it's only common sense to not make them random colours, but your Pop-it colour, since more often than not, your Pop-it colour is your favourite colour. (Except I use a red pop-it so my Bow-Tie stays red without stickers...)

Also, what are the odds that the song in the trailer will be in LBP2? I mean, we need another annoying song like "Atlas", but on LBP2. (I know Atlas'll be on LBP2 anyway, but still.)

I love speculating over this game.
Just as long as I don't expect an FPS mode that could overthrow [INSERT YOUR FAVOURITE FPS HERE]...

I'm guessing I'm not the first to notice this, but I didn't see this mentioned in the breakdown....

There seems to be a texture-shifting/moving material. Check it out at 1:15. Maybe if it can be customized, it might make for some good liquid-flowing textures. I definitely want to see free-flowing water though.... Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm. Also wondering if the TV-like screens at 1:11 are the custom-video stuff you can do? That definitely looks like 8-bit Rad Racer for the NES. There's also more of that texture-shifting material in the background as well.

Other note, are they going with a 6-star system now (at 1:00)?

That 3D pop-out at 1:39 is fantastic.

At this part, did anyone notice how on the sides of the screen, there appears to be television screens with actual TV playing? Is this the background or something for the arcade part?

I just noticed something amazing about the techy background in that trailer!!!
It moves! The robotic arms move around and do stuff!

I wonder what other moving backgrounds there will be?

This may not necessarily fall under the trailer analysis topic, but it's from the same site. Check out the racing part in the top right corner:

http://www.lbpcentral.com/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=16814

Not only is layer shifting of objects possible, but it seems that it may not even need a logic solution. You may be able to simply change the direction of gravity (could that be what the gravity tweak does?) to go into the screen rather than toward the bottom of the screen, and have objects (such as race cars) roll right up and down ramps.

I wonder how flexible the gravity will be. Perhaps it could go into the screen AND down: that would be perfect for pinball levels. I think I'm gonna' put my pinball level on hold until lbp2 comes out.

My brain will hurt when this game is released.. It may melt from all the neat game ideas.

Edit: I just realized... I said game ideas instead of level ideas.. That's what they're gonna be called now, because we won't just make levels anymore!

I don't like the kart racing in LBP1, but this new version looks great. Reminds me of "micromachines" which I had a lot of fun playing when I was younger.
No need to buy mod racer nation now.

The dude who dissected the vid knows that there are an expanded and a standard version of the pop-it...how does he know it? Who did tell him?
Pic 11, it's not clear in still pics, but the background is in motion.
Pic 13, again, in motion the rainbows doesn't appear to rotate from under the floor, like if they were connected to a bolt , but more "appearing" in a circular motion.
Pic 15. studio lights are in the background, what is important is that the fist cracks the material when it raises.
Pic 17, the sackboy flips when pushed in air by the pads
Pic 23, great coolness, maybe editors can be able to hide sackboys into things.
Pic 24, who knows how many sackbot will we be able to control at the same time?
Pic 28, in GameInformer it was said that it was possible to make First Person Shooters, this is the only pic that would prove the point.
Pic 30, coolness of the new speckled glass and circuitboard material
Pic 31, too much focus on those 3D glasses should mean something, since Sony is about to launch 3D gaming in early summer.
Pic 32, this things is epic, it's clear that you drive the cars vertically on a wall, but you have a slope that connects 2 layers, and the wonder is "how I make the cars?", by far, this is the most intriguing pic of the whole set, since it's full of things we now can't imagine.
Pic 35, materials dissolve without gas effect, there are "video" streams hrough monitors? Will it be possible to record cutscenes and repeat them in loops through those monitor devices?
Pic 39, bounce pads working in every direction, not only vertically
Pic 40, finally the end of teleportation devices that had to kill the sackboys, it would be interesting to know if creators can decide to forcefully s u ck players into the tubes and if we can adjust the range
Pic 46, in motion this section is sick for the sheer speed that moves the robotic arm
Pic 48, again, how can we build that stuff?
Pic 53, another really important add, layer shifting, to add puzzles a neeeeeeeew dimension, comphy will be more than happy
Pic 56, my take here is that you can customize the look of the moons, anyway I miss the pod...

Looks like a new VR like material in number 15 and 16. Can it be a lighted material that can be switched on and off? I think it is the same material that is used in picture 44, with the sackboy space invaders.

I also can't get over the giant cookie in the kart racer (32/36). It just looks so yummy. And those oil spots. are those stickers, or do you might slip on them? Maybe you slip on glass, just as normal? Dunno.

When thinking over the breakout picture (37), I came up with some sort of idea. What if it is an impact switch? Kind of a mix of a sound object (they can make sounds on impacts)and a magnetic key/switch. As they mention already, the blockthings change colours when hit. Material change tool? At least I think so. Actually, I am not sure, since I did not notice the colours changing in the video. If you take a look, they are colour coded, but I think that tells how many hits each can take. I notice though, that "cracks" appear. Have a closer look!

Looks like we also have tubes in 45... Hamster and sewer levels ftw?

Layer switching and De-lethalization (and I assume also Re-lethalization, there's going to be a lot of "unfair platformers" out there) ftw, for sure!

That's it for now, going to bed, if I can finish my homework. No comments about why I am here then, please. I could not resist.

Just noticed that I actually got two of those green bars!!! Yay!!! What do they signalize anyway? appreciation points received from "thanks" button?
If so, that would explain why CC has got somewhere around 8 - 11 of those green bars.

This breakdown opened my eyes to some things I hadn't noticed when I watched the video for the first 50 times. xD Such as the delethalization, and the layer switching which just blows my mind. That'll make new logic puzzles a lot more fun and interesting. Also I'm in love with the whole Sackbot concept because I can think of some amazing cutscene ideas with the use of the new cinematic options. This breakdown just got me even more excited than I already was.

Also, something to note on the racetrack part. The oil spill did seem to slip up the car that went through it. Do you think it's possible that they have racing specific hazards? (Seeing as how they have what seems to be boost pads as well).

I'm not sure if this has been mentioned already, but at precisely 1:01 in the video, it shows a sort of stamper, stamping down a ribbon decoration in-game. I'm pretty sure this can't be done at the moment, correct me if I'm wrong, though.

Edit 1: Also, if you look at 1:21-1:23 or 1:27-1:30, where the sackgirl riding the dragonfly is shooting at the enemies, you see that once her targets have lost all their hit points, they explode cleanly, leaving behind no fragments at all, as if they were bombs.

It is possible to achieve. You put a ribbon decoration on some invisiDM (You'll probably need to make DM visible first, before shrinking it down). Then you make a stamper, and when it touches something, an emitter emits one ribbon.

I don't think that's what's going on here though. Seeing as that's a cutscene (considering the camera angles) it was probably added in right when you see it stick to the book, I'm guessing decorations can be added on the fly in a cutscene2010-05-12 06:33:00

Yeah, I don't belive that is the technique used in the vid either, but Galace belived that it wans't possible to make anything like that in LBP 1, though it actually is possible, but it's a bit clumsy I guess.2010-05-12 10:25:00

I know most of the zombie levels on LBP are really quite boring i might say but with sackbots, you can dress them up in zombie skins and make these levels great at last! you could even make mini cutscenes with good sackbots and evil sackbots having a war while telling a story at the same time. there is so many possibilities with sackbots, you could probably make a whole level with them. and all this is only the first info! i cant wait to hear more. I feel sorry for mod nation, they could have just been beaten by a games company which doesnt even specialise in racing games 2010-05-12 15:18:00

And I thought I was the only one who just had a big "BRAAAAAAINS" in mind when I heard of Sackbot+Paintinator
I always wanted to create some kind of "Sackboy vs. 100 enemies" scenario in LBP1, but it just wasn't possible to a degree where I would have been satisfied with the outcome. I guess that Sackbots will definitely change that.

and I noticed the fuzzy white creature was being controlled easily like a real robot. seeing as it said digital puppetry does that mean we can make a fully working metal gear with out all the annoying falling over?

What I want to know is how races work. Notice the hole in between the two ramps? Do you die if you fall down there? And if so, where do you respawn? Does the camera zoom out to follow everyone, or does each player have their own, individual camera? How do you make those little cars?

And look closely at the crane that sackboy is controlling with a control seat - the grabber on the crane is actually fixed, possibly to an invisible piston. The crane isn't powered by the bolts of the arm, because they're basic bolts. Mm have ingeniously created the crane so the bolts will adjust to wherever the grabber moves to, which is pretty awesome.

I noticed that too. I am thinking with the microchip they got a preseting function. like you can select the whole object and set the chip to crane, arm, legs, etc but its just a theory. I can't wait to get my cloth hands on it and pick things apart to see how they tick.

Or it's black glass and the cars interact with it like with any glass. Would be nice, but I think your explanation is more likely.

Not sure if anyone else noticed the angles that the notepad, pen and book were sitting at on the desktop. They were at varying angles, which makes me ask if objects can be placed at varying angles in LBP2, or were these items just built that way. If we have control of the angles we can place objects at, or even better, build objects and place them at angles as well, that would be verrrrrry cool IMO.2010-05-15 23:33:00

Not sure if anyone else noticed the angles that the notepad, pen and book were sitting at on the desktop. They were at varying angles, which makes me ask if objects can be placed at varying angles in LBP2, or were these items just built that way. If we have control of the angles we can place objects at, or even better, build objects and place them at angles as well, that would be verrrrrry cool IMO.
Unfortunately, I think those are objects in the background. So we may not be able to do that. However, I may be surprised?

It appears the Classic TV Outfit that was picked in that contest got an upgrade. Thanks Mm, looks a lot better!

Actually that is a different costume. A computer. Sackboy has what appears to be a keyboard on his chest.

ITs eiter a computer or an extremely old Cell Phone.

("Old times" burn! XD)

I have been looking at the vid and broke it down my self. now I dont have pics but you can notice a few things your self.

One. I noticed the projectile that is being fired from the dragon fly has no physical form. its just a shot of light like a real lazer shot.
I also noticed at one point a cluster of lights flying away from sackboy through a tunnel. again no physical from just glowing swarms of ligt lights like fireflys.

Two. At 1:08 when thay show the arcade machine after the raceing shot. look to the right.... notice the animated screen on the arcade machine next to the one the sackboy is playing?

I don't know if anybody's mentioned this yet, but...At 0:40 of the video, look at the rainbows. How are they simultaneously materializing like that? I've been thinking about it for a while. I don't know if anybody noticed, of course there are so many more important things in the video...I just can't imagine how those rainbows would work, though!2010-05-20 09:15:00

I've been thinking about that too. I thought maybe they came out of the ground as a bolt spun them in an arc.2010-05-20 09:17:00

Sorry but they are definitely rotated by a bolt! You can't watch the video from youtube to notice (rubbish quality) but if you look where you would expect the bolt to be on the first rainbow to the right you can see something rotate at the same rate as the rainbow and it looks like the edge of a bolt. It is also positioned exactly where I would expect the bolt to be. Also the first to the left has something less noticeable occur where you would expect the bolt. Then there's the fact the rainbows rotate and it's not possible in lbp1 at least to reassign a pivot point to mid air which in the end wouldn't be that useful unless there is a new way of rotating an object without a physical connection by bolt which is highly unlikely.2010-05-22 20:33:00

Ohhh, I wish I had a PS3 to get this game. It looks great, but my only downsides are
-I like lbp because it's a platformer, not a game platform... it could get nice but i like platformers the best by far

-NO POD? NOT USING IT? omigawsh! me and my buddy use it all the time to dance, decorate, sticker, play king of the hill, and much more! awww

Not just a platformer game, but a platform for games. It'll still be a platformer at it's core, just with all sorts of great tools that will let you create other game types much easier, as well.

I personally think the race track is a really wide level.. with a nifty camera angle.... same with the mice thingy...

the sackbots would really help with acting and cutscens.... and for once I may see a game-related level that has actual enemies.

This is such a little thing that it is not even worth noting. But still, at 00:37 sackboy blinks, which didn't occur in LBP1, as far as I am aware.2010-05-30 19:05:00

Hmm was just wondering about the oil bit with the cars. Maybe theres a mag key and switch that activates the new randomiser device which is attacthed to the steering oh the car causing it to mess up. Just a thought. 2010-05-31 23:36:00

I just noticed something amazing about the techy background in that trailer!!!
It moves! The robotic arms move around and do stuff!

I wonder what other moving backgrounds there will be?

At this part and some others you can see stuff moving in the background.

I have to say, that background looks epic! Especially the arms, they look like something out of portal!

I'm hoping to make something where you switch to FPS view when you get a paintinator!

from what i can tell NOTHING HAS CHANGED WITH THE POD....just that now when you use the controller...the POD turns invisible and you can see EVERYTHING now....but whether or not thats the final product is up to Mm....unless WE as a community influence it somehow (like how suckerpunch changed COLE in infamous 2 back to his old self because lots of people hated the new cole)

anyways on a side note anybody LOVE the room where the sackboys were playing PONG? was super cool it looked like a HUB level

Other than the fact that it appears as if the pod is no longer in a 'room'........
