Why Modnation?

Archive: 37 posts

Well,it seems as though you could create you're own kart racer in LBP2.Modnation Racers will be a great game none the less, but LBP2 will have alot more stuff...

What do you think?

SCREW modnation... though i may get it anyway... it is a more racing specific game, and we have yet to see its full features, but for now LBP2 FTW.2010-05-10 21:15:00

HAHA! I dont think ANY developer had expected a game like this to be released so suddenly.. If any can beat this. they deserve a very big award... (and a cookie!)

But i doubt any of that will EVER happen XD

And the music in the trailer is AMAZING! And ive just watched the trailer the 3rd time!

I honestly don't think that the kart racers you could create in LBP2 would come close to what you can do with modnation. If I actually wanted to make race tracks, I'd get modnation racers. If I wanted to play a kart racing game, I'd get modnation.

Just because it's possible in LBP2 does not mean it will be as good as a game devoted to the concept

yeah modnation had power ups and traps and loads of in depth editing tools.
lbp2 will be great to, dont get me wrong. the race levels will be great
but I feel like mnr will still have some different features.

LBP2 is pretty much the best thing to ever happen to the ps3 since LBP1

and since it's a platform for making games....it may very well be the GOTLT(GameOfTheLifeTime)

anyways still modnation doesnt deserve any insults....especially since its such a cool play, create, share for specific racers

I'm not expecting much out of ModNation Racers, but I think I'll buy it nevertheless. It looks pretty fun, and it's create mode seems a lot easier to use than LBP's (I didn't get the MNR beta, so I wouldn't know much).2010-05-10 22:06:00

pretty much you can make the tracks and such...and if you add life the game starts making the rest of it for you....so you can edit those...and the time of day...water level....and sheep

Sorry to tell you this, but I have been in the ModNation Racers, and even though I was kinda disapointed at the Beta when it came out - then again, it was an online Beta, not a creation one - I'm still gonna get ModNation Racers because... you know, maybe you don't think the same way, but ModNation has more options when it comes to racing and creating tracks. Plus, both games are actually very different.

And please, the worst thing that could possibly happen is a war between ModNation fanboys and LBP fanboys. It would be *******ing pathetic.

MNR will be MUCH better for making tracks and stuff. For one thing it's fully 3D, whereas with LBP2 you'll only really be able to make top-down racers, which are two very different styles of racing games.2010-05-10 22:51:00

Indeed, MNR is fully 3D, but please do take a close look at this picture:

Don't you see something that reveals some kind of "hill" at the upper right picture?
Looks like LBP2 has decided not to fall short on that aspect, too. Either that or is it some kind of optical effect.

it could be a layer manipulation

It obviusly is some kind of layer manipulation!
But think of it, we are seeing the race from a FRONTAL perspective. To "ride up" that hill, the cars should be moving onto the mid layer, but somehow, the transition between layers is tilted, which is something we have definetely NEVER seen before, neither was it mentionated by Mm. This deinetely spices up LBP2 with a bit more of 3D, if you ask me.

it could be combined with the camera manipulation as well since we saw that space invaders type game in the trailer...which would make our ramp like objects turn into top to bottom hills2010-05-10 23:35:00

Darn my english, I'm afraid I'm not understanding you quite well, I have no idea what you are refering to :/
Srry! Could you explain yourself more?

EDIT: I just noticed that in the trailer we get to see -during the kart section- a ramp that makes the kart jump over a lava river. The karts don't cross it, but it's clearly there, in the kart's path, it's just that the video gets cut before we get to see the jump.

Yeah, well, the main focus of the Beta was of course to test the online abilities of the game. I created two (great) tracks, but then I stopped playing, because we just didn't stop playing ranked races, on the same two circuits. With that said, I still think it's a great game; it's just that if you really want to do a sophisticated track, like a ModNation version of let's say the Gilles-Villeneuve circuit, it's gonna take a while.

By the way, my tracks were "The Alpine Experiment", "The Dirt Experiment" and my racer was the incredible Quebec Ranger. OH YEAH!

Modnation and LBP are two different games. It's like saying now i have LBP i don't need to buy another platform game ever again. Personally i still like Mario Galaxy and Ratchet & Clank.2010-05-11 13:02:00

I think Modnation is pretty much shot down by this. Not only can you make some pretty awesome races on LBP2, you can also make platformers, shooters, RPGs, etc.
LBP2 may not have the best race creator, but Modnation doesn't even have a platformer/shooter/RPG creator.

So what? ModNation makes kart racing better, that's all. You shouldn't judge a game on how much it does, but how well it achieves this particular goal. Personally, as much as we can talk about it over and over again, we can pretty much sumarize the whole thing like this:

Mario Kart > Micro Machines.

Well one of my biggest turnoffs for modnation was that it looks like you cant actually make things, you just use premade objects to decorate, whichi s not enough for me. Even if the lbp top down racing isnt as good gameplay wise, you will be able to actually custom make the backround and everything, which makes it far more interesting in my opinion.2010-05-12 02:39:00

Personally, I think both games look good.

I LOVE kart racers and I LOVE LBP. It's not like I have to choose sides. I'm not buying LBP2 for the kart racers because it's obviously not designed JUST for kart racers so the racing levels won't be as good. Just because you can do more in LBP doesn't mean it'll beat the other games in that particular genre. For example, just because you CAN make an RPG, it doesn't mean WoW is going to be like OSHT.

Similarly, I'm not buying MNR to make my own objects. I love the kart editor and it looks like you can do a LOT. I know I'll have hours of fun working on tracks in MNR.

MNR and LBP cannot be compared to each other. Good day, sirs.

What people have been able to create in the beta, using only 10% of what's in the final game is nothing short of astounding.2010-05-12 04:36:00

I was in the online beta and it was boring....

LBP2 and Modnation are two very, very different games. It would be unjustified to compare them. Racing games and platform games are extremely different genres. I played the demo of Modnation, and although it's very fun to customize your character and the races are pretty fun, the demo didn't offer many features at all, like only allowing you to race with the default character and karts. I know it'll be a good game, but I can see myself tire of it pretty quickly, plus I don't have any money and wouldn't want to ask my parents for 3 PS3 games in one year!

Personally, I am so incredibly stoked for LBP2 and will be preordering and impatiently waiting 6 months for its release.
