LBP2: Dreaming Up Your Own Creations
Archive: 39 posts
As the dream of LBP2 becomes a reality, surely like me you a now en visioning your own "game" ideas in your minds already. I got a few movies that I'd like to review with the new Logic and character design. so my question is, What level do you think you want to create first? soooo keep dreaming LBPC one day your ideas will become a reality | 2010-05-10 18:44:00 Author: Pattington_Bear Posts: 777 |
I think I am going to do what I did with the first LBP. Complete the story, do the create tutorials, 100 percent the story then do my Spyro series with any inspiration I will have found. | 2010-05-10 19:05:00 Author: Jedi_1993 Posts: 1518 |
Kingdom Hearts series! My team and I are going to work on all the levels as of now, then update them on LBP2. I can't wait. Sackbots as heartless! | 2010-05-10 20:00:00 Author: talbot-trembler Posts: 1114 |
I hope to complete the story mode and create mode tutorials first, like another poster previously mentioned, but that aside, my mind is already flooding with ideas. How about a gravity minigame? How about a "Godzilla" style level where you control some sort of monster and wreck havoc upon a city full of screaming and panicking sackbot NPCs? These ideas of mine are gonna have to stay in my head for a while. | 2010-05-10 20:06:00 Author: lk9988 Posts: 1077 |
My mind is buzzing but i doubt i'll acieve all of them. My first thought is an F1 track with 20+ sackbots as the other drivers. Sounds simple enough. That will be a top down raceing game My second idea is to do a top down shooter in a skyscraper. Basically LBP Die-hard. Have a few enermies on each floor and as you go up have harder/more enermies. I'd use the teleport thing that was mentioned in the stairwell to teleport you between floors. Both of which are dependant on the capabilites of the AI. But i think both would be plausible. | 2010-05-11 12:52:00 Author: Mkwone Posts: 104 |
A Ratchet & Clank level. grappling hook + gravity control = R&C. | 2010-05-11 13:46:00 Author: midnight_heist Posts: 2513 |
When i was fewing some screenshots showing the sackbots, i envisioned.... Lemmings. You start off with a bunch of little sackbots walking endlessly, and you have to guide each and every one of them, keeping them save from hazards. Along the way you'll encounter loads of obstacles, free some more friendly lemmings, and i'm not sure if the sackbots could use em, Power-ups. | 2010-05-11 15:41:00 Author: ThommyTheThird Posts: 440 |
As soon as I saw 20 sackbots chasing a sackboy I thought Lemmings too. No idea what I'll make yet, already got a project I'm finishing as it is. | 2010-05-11 16:24:00 Author: SeanyC-SeanyDo Posts: 115 |
I, by no means, am trying to sound rude or something, but I can't help it but to asK: Why do most of you look forward to do games tribute levels? It just feels a tad -a tiny lil' tad, I swear!- uncreative to me. Not that those levels won't be awesome -hells, looks like evrything in LBP is gonna be- but I feel you could base them around "fresher" ideas. | 2010-05-11 16:26:00 Author: Keldur Posts: 628 |
To put it simply...a SMTersona level. A sackbot Persona would be a fun character to create. | 2010-05-11 19:24:00 Author: 4wheel Posts: 511 |
Probably a story level. | 2010-05-11 19:59:00 Author: Stampy Posts: 86 |
imagine the amount of control and creativity u would get. so i could make a fully stable fully operational object with something like custom controls. so like circle would be a button, or even square! did u see the amount of control the guy got on that dragonfly!! its amazing! | 2010-05-11 21:22:00 Author: shadowsythe456732 Posts: 176 |
I don't know if it is possible to give Bots every shape they could, but if so, I will try to make a Dragon wich walks/flies around the level! Anybody feeling like: Yeah thats a cool idea?... | 2010-05-11 21:31:00 Author: Okisaan Posts: 165 |
I have sitting on my moon a level, utilizing an original plot, which I finished halfway before giving up. I will use the game's new content and tools to give me enough inertia to complete the first level. By then, I should have enough creative juice to get through the rest of the planned series. Man, with the sack-bots (which I shall use to make a small enemy defense force), recorded audio, cinematic angles, and improved logic, I am starting to feel glad I left the level untouched. Now, I can bring it to new life, more glorious than ever! Also, I'm planning to make a power-suit Sackbot which the character will control during the final epic battle for great justice. | 2010-05-11 21:42:00 Author: Astrosimi Posts: 2046 |

I have to be perfectly honest, the first thing I'm going to do with create mode is goof off for weeks like I did with LBP. Set up stages, obstacle courses, goof around with the new features. | 2010-05-11 22:51:00 Author: Arion Posts: 17 |

I certainly gonna make a little animated sequence..! I really want to try the cinematic features and the sackbots | 2010-05-11 23:26:00 Author: dajdaj03 Posts: 1486 |
Well first I'm gonna finish off the two last LBP1 projects I've got to do. But I'll probably play MNR too much, so I guess I'll complete those in LBP2! Maybe I'll do those two levels after I do my 3 planned levels for LBP2... "D-Day", "300" and "Bot Boxing". So I'll probably never finish the two levels I'm currently working on! | 2010-05-11 23:39:00 Author: emekcrash Posts: 51 |
The first thing I am going to do is make a puzzle shooter, much like Pixeljunk Shooter or Gravity Crash. Since we can play with gravity, it's going to be awesome to give the craft real physics and inertia. I wonder what happens when you adjust the gravity in a level with water in it... I'd assume it stays the same, but hey. | 2010-05-11 23:42:00 Author: Sack-Jake Posts: 1153 |

Not that those levels won't be awesome -hells, looks like evrything in LBP is gonna be- but I feel you could base them around "fresher" ideas. I made my 2 tribute levels (calvin + hobbes / ratchet + clank) because all of the other levels are pretty terrible, and felt they deserved better. It's a way to give thanks to the original creators I feel. Plus not all tributes are direct copies of other levels. Thinking about it now, LBP2 may be able to handle my epic idea for a series thanks to the improved NPCs.. I feel with all these improvements, we a going to see an increase in original ideas and levels. How can we not? | 2010-05-11 23:48:00 Author: midnight_heist Posts: 2513 |
I plan to do a lot of work with an entire game (as the new trailer advertises the most). With that addition of Sackbots that I can use as NPCs as well as all the new cinematic options, I'll be able to create beautiful story sequences and cutscenes. That's what I'm most excited about (as in, mostly aesthetics, which is sad, but true). Also, with the new level linking wax badge things, I have a feeling that we'll be given the ability to create an "overworld". This opens up possibilities for so many things. The first thing that has come to my mind is Banjo-Kazooie. I could make an intense Grunty's Lair, and I can even get the pots by using those tubes! I'm beyond excited for all the possibilities arising from these ingenious features! :3 | 2010-05-12 00:00:00 Author: AeroForce22 Posts: 392 |
Most of the tributes are ok, but do you remember those Dead Space levels? Those are amazing. I wish people would use their own ideas instead of just reproducing nintendo games, though. Indeed, how to forget those? They really were a joy to sight (morre than play, I may add). However, if those tribute levels were already that good, I'd like to see what the creator could have done if he was to set let his imagination break free! Mm is flat-out advertising this as possible, and encouraging it. That's why everyone's thinking about it. That's my point exactly. If you can do everything, why stop and do a tribute of what you already know? Jump into the unknown and amaze us all! I made my 2 tribute levels (calvin + hobbes / ratchet + clank) because all of the other levels are pretty terrible, and felt they deserved better. No, no, it's not that I'm denying that tribute levels are original -we all know that we have seen some mindblowing ones- it's just that I couldn't help it but to wonder why would so many people work on levels based around an existing idea/concept/plot/whatever instead of diving down the depts of their own imagination and transforming what they find there into a level. I guess that my point of view is specially bisased regarding this subject, simply because I like to jump in into people's unseen inner worlds, so sorry me if it felt like I was trying to criticize your plans for LBP in any way. | 2010-05-12 00:30:00 Author: Keldur Posts: 628 |
Very bored with coursework so I decided to take a break and write the following idea =] Name: Rat-Patrol Premise: A bird-eye view-like stealth game where you play as a small white mouse, with gameplay similar to the VR missions from MGS1 you must sneak past the larger rats who will be patrolling areas. At the end of each level there will be boss fights with creatures such as giant rats and snakes. http://img687.imageshack.us/img687/5396/rlw2l0.gif (borrowed from someone on this website) Story: LittleBigPlanet began as a lifeless rock, barren and boring, rich in materials and resources, but poor in life and creativity. One day, the mysterious Sack-people found their way to LittleBigPlanet. With their magic, they began to shape LittleBigPlanet into what is today. Wood and metal became thingies. Thingies became doo-dahs, and eventually do-dahs…became creatures. With all the creatures who came inhabit LittleBigPlanet thanks to the sack-people’s magic, none were as smart and clever as the mice, creatures who would become the scientists of LittleBigPlanet. The mice wanted to use their intelligence to help everyone on LittleBigPlanet; they created jetpacks, microchips, and all of the gismos that the inhabitants of LittleBigPlanet use every day. The smarter the mice became, the more the rats became jealous of them. The rats may have been big and strong, but they were useless with technology. One day, a group of baby mice were playing in a field, when they came across a weird glowing stone. Hiding in the grass, a few rats watched as three mice approached the stone, the youngest one however, hesitantly hung back, afraid of what the glowing stone might be. The thee mice began to play with the stone, rolling it to each other in sequence. The youngest mouse became afraid when the other three began acting oddly, each claimed that the stone belonged to them and so they began to fight over it. During the scrap, the stone became dark red and began glowing more brightly until the light was blinding, the screams of the mice rang out through the air, the youngest mouse had to turn away. When the light faded away, the three mice were gone, vanished without a trace, only the stone remained. Panicking in fear the lone remaining mouse ran away deep into the nearby forest. The rats who had been watching slowly approached the dangerous stone, and began to smile. They had a plan. It was common knowledge that the mice scientists were working on a new invention, something which seemed impossible even in LittleBigPlanet…a time machine. They had completed the machine itself, but they had no power source strong enough to get it to work. The evil rats approached the mice with the dangerous stone. They claimed it was a magical artefact which would grant the mice whatever they wanted. They mice were not foolish enough to fall for such a lie, but they were interested with how the stone seemed to glow by itself. They took the stone to their laboratory to analyse it and found that it had unlimited amounts of energy, finally they had something which would power their time machine. The mice placed the stone into their machine, and it began to power-up. Before they could test to see if it had worked however, the stone once again began to glow brighter and brighter. This time however, the light did not stop growing in power because of the time machine. It grew brighter and brighter, until the whole the laboratory the mice lived in was covered by the strange stones light. Every single mouse had vanished. They were gone. The rats were happy that their evil plan had worked, they invades the former home of the mice and took control of their technology. They selfishly refused to share it with the rest of LittleBigPlanet, ten years pass, and eventually the mice and their wonderful technology are forgotten by everyone, apart, from the one surviving mouse. The lone mouse knew what the rats had done and what had happened to his fellow mouse. He had lived alone in the forest for ten years, training and planning for his next move. He became a master of avoiding and out-running the larger predators that also lived in the forest. One day when he was sleeping, a hunting party of rats came across his hideout. The rats were shocked that were still a mouse in existence, they chased him through the forest, intending to kill him, but he easily outran them. The rats were also physically superior the mice, when he managed to outrun the hunting party, he knew he was ready. The lone mouse planned to sneak into the rat’s fortress which housed the technology which once belonged to the mice. The lone mouse decided to try and make it to the very heart of the fortress, where the time machine was located. If it did actually work, with the stones power and after all these years, the lone mouse could go back in time and stop the destruction of his race. It would be tricky though, as the rats know knew he was alive and they would be waiting. | 2010-05-12 01:17:00 Author: Unknown User |
I'll probably create a new Typewriter level if LBP2 doesn't have something that will make it completely obsolete. The temptation for remakes and stuff seems to be much higher with this game. I've always wanted to make my own Mega Man game so I'll definitely try that and Blaster Master too. Other than that, I prefer to keep my own ideas to myself for now. | 2010-05-12 01:45:00 Author: Reef1978 Posts: 527 |

Name: Deathrace (not working title) Gameplay: You are racing with your friends in a bird's eye view, all cars have weapons and armour, you can destroy your opponents, there may be some sackbots racing. Story: "Demolition derbys have now evolved into deathraces, the cars are equipped with weapons, you must kill or be killed, the chance of survival is low, you could win a million dollars, all you have to do is cross the finish line, ALIVE" :kz: | 2010-05-12 02:04:00 Author: cheesemuffins99 Posts: 102 |

I'd really like to make a Tribute level to Burnout Paradise Big Surf Island. It was so much fun it is almost like a LBP level anyways. I don't know how it will all work. But to me, that race looked like we could make free roam levels. | 2010-05-12 10:49:00 Author: Snappyguy Posts: 710 |
I cant even imagine what im going to do. I will be making a machinima first though (most likely) When the game is released, you wont even know if your playing as a sackbot, or a sackperson in levels anymore! | 2010-05-12 13:01:00 Author: grayspence Posts: 1990 |
I can't even imagine what I am going to do. I will be making a machinima first though (most likely) We can finish our machinima too! If we use the sackbots to play the level, we can't mess up and have to re-record. | 2010-05-12 13:20:00 Author: tanrockstan34 Posts: 1076 |
That's my point exactly. If you can do everything, why stop and do a tribute of what you already know? Jump into the unknown and amaze us all! I think some people are good at making up new stuff and others are better at creating based on something existing (I'd put myself in the latter category, too). Also, by copying other people's work, you learn techniques which might help you create something original yourself some day. And finally, it's a game, people should build what they enjoy building. | 2010-05-12 13:30:00 Author: Rogar Posts: 2284 |
I see where you're coming from, having some critique on Tribute levels, but then again... everything is a copy of some existing genre already. For example, i wasn't planning on making the sackbots look exactly like Lemmings, and perfectly remake the levels. I was just saying i wanted to create the same gameplay, but add lots of original/creative new obstacles. I think people aren't imagining any "original" stuff yet, because there's simply so little we know from the tools. We've seen a working top-down racer, so people want to create top-down racer tracks! | 2010-05-12 14:05:00 Author: ThommyTheThird Posts: 440 |

Well, I sure couldn't agree with you more! However, let me point out that I wasn't refering of copying/reproducing a genre (and if I did, I sure failed again to express myself, lol!) I was refering to reproducing the same "worlds". If you decide to do a, I dunno, a Mario tribute level, you're not just recreating the genre (actually, most of us have been recreating that precise genre, haha!) but also the world. It's about "worlds" peeks my curiosity. To me, it's shocking that somebody prefers to represent somebody's idea/world than his own. But then again, this just comes down to personal taste! I think some people are good at making up new stuff and others are better at creating based on something existing (I'd put myself in the latter category, too). Also, by copying other people's work, you learn techniques which might help you create something original yourself some day. And finally, it's a game, people should build what they enjoy building. I do completely agree too Still, this doesn't prevent me from encouraging you to make something more of "your own". More plays. Sad but true. Like fanart vs original work on deviant art. fanart gets all the attention. A large majority at least. I've been in dA and I sure know that situation! However, I highly doubt this is the case. C'mon, look at this thread! Everybody is impatient to do their tribute levels, impatiency which I surely support! To me, it looks like this has nothing to do with popularity. I'm sure there's a good reason for doing "fanart lvls" over "unfanart ones" -even if I fail to grasp that reason, lol!- but I feel that on most of the cases, people aren't looking that forward for plays, even if it is well known that tribute lvls tend to recieve more attention. | 2010-05-12 19:35:00 Author: Keldur Posts: 628 |
I have 3 level/saga ideas that I want to make so badly... but I'm not saying a word. Other than that an interesting 'time travel' scenario (using the news that you can directly link levels) where you link to a level in the past and the resulting level link produced is a slightly different future depending on your actions. Or something, not my best idea by a long shot. | 2010-05-12 19:40:00 Author: Avatar_of_Chaos Posts: 48 |

I'll keep on working on my Lemony Snicket's A Series of Unfortunate Events level, but on LBP2 ! I haven't really done much anyway on LBP1, so that's gonna be okay. But I think I'll work on a lot of things too, maybe a point-&-click level, I started working on a Machinarium level several months ago. I could try to build up a kind of cursor, and the character would be a Sackbot ! | 2010-05-12 20:13:00 Author: Oddmania Posts: 1305 |
