Boss Battle Help (PSP)

Archive: 8 posts

I'm currently working on a level that at one point has the player battling a boss. I'm trying to make it so the boss is overhead, and moves up and down, left and right. I tried a pretty noobish way of rigging it up with a static block and 2 dynamic blocks. But when I go to play mode, the whole thing leans to the direction of all the weight. Any thoughts on how I could make this work without leaning?2010-05-10 16:47:00

Make your pistons stiff? Cause it should not be leaning unless you are using unstiff pistons or winches.2010-05-11 23:01:00

Nope, it still leans by a little bit.
I would recommend using cardboard materials, it doesn't lean.
Your probably using glass or metal, which causes that tilt even when stiff.

That tilt drives me nuts, I get that materials have weight but really I think pistons etc. should disregard this and just hold things where you put them!

You can get around it by detaching the pistons, pushing your blocks against a level surface to 'straighten them out' and then re-attaching. Using multiple pistons instead of single ones can help too. With a bit of work even heavy objects can be held in place properly.

Alright, I think I know how to get it to work. Sorry for the delayed reply.
Think if I (I'm gonna try to explain this as clearly as possible) put 2 blocks equal elevation and a set wistance between each other, then take a material like glass, thin it out and make it stretch between the 2. Glue it all then have a piston pushing the block that needs to be pushed along that glass while the whole rig is supported from 2 top down pistons? Sorry if that didn't make sense.

I think Bovrillor has a better idea. Using multiple pistons (about 3) to do one task should help keep it stable. Just place a grab switch somewhere it cannot be grabbed, connect it to all but 1 of the pistons, and you should have it working.2010-05-13 23:23:00

You might want to be a bit careful with using a lot of pistons, they're still pretty buggy. If you are going to go along with it, then make sure it's one of the last things you do right before you save your level. Those pistons tend to get buggy, the longer you're in create mode.2010-05-14 08:22:00

I've found that out the hard way. They tend to start moving in odd directions.
