Treadmill level (sorry no drawings)
Archive: 10 posts
I have a fairly simple idea for a level. It starts off on a treadmill going fairly slowly and dropping prize bubbles at constant intervals from the front to the back, so players in the very back are able to get all of the bubbles. Obstacles that kill players drop onto the treamill as well and they would have to jump over them. Obviously if a player drops off of this treamill they die as well. This whole process slowly speeds up and caps out around the time at which the treadmill is moving a bit faster then a player can run. When all the players die, the points are tallied up. So far I've had quite a bit of difficulty making the actual treamill. I've created a device that allows any machines to slowly speed up over time though. I'm just wondering if you guys can help me figure out how to do this and feel free to make this level yourself if you want to. | 2008-10-05 05:23:00 Author: dobilay Posts: 60 |
sounds great! keep working hard at it mate also ask drunkmiffy for help as he has made a similar level to this only his was just you running round dodging objects and collecting points which i found a secret to beat and got tied 1 on it =) | 2008-10-05 05:34:00 Author: Thee-Flash Posts: 3154 |
Sounds like it'll be a fun level, It's like one of the levels in Fuzion Frenzy for XBOX.. I had loads of fun on it at my cousins when there was a party at his house. | 2008-10-05 05:55:00 Author: BobMarley Posts: 260 |
I think I just came up with an idea so crazy that it just might work. I could make a short piece of rubber attatched to other pieces with a string. That would require a ton of work though. | 2008-10-05 06:24:00 Author: dobilay Posts: 60 |
I think the treadmill idea is a good one. The respawn point should be at the very front of the treadmill, so dying would be a disadvantage as you'd have to fight to get to the best position. Lots of slapping would ensue as people tried to knock each other off the back of the treadmill, which could be very funny. Is it possible to randomize the order in which prizes and obstacles drop onto the treadmill? | 2008-10-05 12:38:00 Author: FlowersInHisHair Posts: 126 |
Actually I each player to only have one life if that's possible. | 2008-10-05 18:23:00 Author: dobilay Posts: 60 |
Ooh, harsh! The slappiest player will win then. But that might make the level quite short! | 2008-10-06 11:20:00 Author: FlowersInHisHair Posts: 126 |

I don't quite get it, but just have a load of small rubber wheels with motorbolts attached, turning in sync. I think that should simulate a treadmill | 2008-10-06 13:49:00 Author: Maltay Posts: 2073 |
In the videos I've seen it appears that they put the spawning portal (what's it called?) on a piston/hydraulics. Once the level starts the spawning circle thing gets moved to a new area, but is still active. This way when everybody dies they will spawn at the same spawn point, but it would have moved to a position above the scoreboard. Also, I'm not sure if I'm understanding this. If the prizes drop at the front of the treadmill and work backwards wouldn't it be beneficial to stay at the front where the prizes drop? I think it would be neat if there was another treadmill sort of thing above the playing area covered so the players can't see in. The prizes/obstacles would drop in through there, so that they don't seem to appear out of nowhere. Or maybe I'm not understanding it at all? | 2008-10-06 13:52:00 Author: Ozymandias Posts: 223 |
Prizes don't just drop at the start of the treadmill, they drop at severel points along it. If you stay at the front you'll miss the ones that are further back. | 2008-10-06 15:58:00 Author: dobilay Posts: 60 |
