Stuff Disappearing After Saving

The knothead who bought me LBP for my birthday and won't let me play it  wants me to find out why pieces of the level he is building keeps disappearing when he returns to it after saving. He is using two materials and the thermometer level is only a quarter of the way. He hasn't gotten any warnings about the shape being too complicated either. | He claims he saves before he leaves. maybe it is the way he "saves"? Instead of selecting "save level" is he chooses to return to pod and when it asks if he wants to save, he clicks yes. no bombs in his level and he isn't gluing anything...everything sits on each other.
