A Million To OneBovrillor
An all-action romp across a futuristic cityscape, with plenty to do along the way. Avoid huge aliens, ride a multitude of vehicles and be ready for anything!

Was inspired by the old Contra games and also a certain classic novel... the clue's in the level title
Finally got something new published, will sort some screenshots out tomorrow as it's 2:41am and I have a monster headache... LBP overload!

It's a big city level with lots of epic moments and hopefully it's an improvement on my last effort.

Enjoy!

edit: Now on version 1.1 incorporating community suggestions... please re-rate if you have the chance

Good job,I enjoy playing your level has very good gameplay elements, perhaps a little more corner editing would have been better, but not big deal, keep up with the good work.
5 stars!

Wow, this level is pretty awesome. For some reason when i read the title I thought it was going to be one of those levels that have a ridiculous amount of pre-made enemies and no actual level. I am glad to have been wrong. The level was quite fun and really reminded me of war of the worlds (your classic novel of inspirational, magical-ness?). I really liked it, but I especially love your lift (ingenious? I should think so). I am very glad to have played this one.

If you don't know there is a competition going one here: http://forums.littlebigworkshop.com/t5/General-Discussion/LBP-PSP-Contest-The-ultimate-platformer/td-p/242659

I'm entered, and your level is perfect for it (you may even win a Gold Rare Sticker: http://www.littlebigplanet.com/en-us/game_guide/psp/downloadable_content/gold_rare_sticker/)

I'm glad you liked it - yep, you got the right novel Hope it washes away the memory of the terrible Tom Cruise film. I'm very flattered that you think it's competition-worthy, I just entered it so fingers crossed eh...

Wow, thanks for the wonderful feedback guys! It's such a good feeling to know that the creators who inspire me have enjoyed my work.

I'm so glad the **** thing didn't fall apart. The wobble bolts in this level had to be replaced EVERY TIME I saved... argh!

Ali, glad you liked the artwork. I must've spent at least 30 hours corner editing alone hehe... probably could've been faster but I don't work to a 'plan', suffered several corruptions and on one occasion every dynamic in the level just vanished!

Have nearly caught up on return feedback now

Hey Bov
New to the PSP community. I enjoyed your latest level, it was very fun. I like that you took the time to make each section unique with the inclusion of various vehicles, and contraptions. I also thought the flaming car bit was cool sicne just about everybody uses flamming logs on an incline, and you didn't! Very nice!

Hey Bovrillor-

Well, this was a nice little surprise. There's lots of improvements here over LittleBigAvatar, which is still pretty good in its own right. My favorite thing about this level is the scale. The buildings are appropriately huge, making alien invaders seem that much more intimidating. I like how the cutscenes clearly show you your objective waaayyyyyy far away, and you think to yourself "how the heck am I supposed to get up there?" The platforming flows really well, although it isn't terribly complex. There's lots of running along wide flat areas, which isn't a bad thing really because there's plenty of scenery to enjoy along the way. Your construction vehicles are cute and instantly likable, but also big and tough in a cool way - I was instantly reminded of Tonka trucks. The yellow targeting laser bit is absolute genius and very well implemented. It fits both the story and the action quite well, and introduces a pretty entertaining gameplay element. The alien heat rays are also great and well made. Your climbing machine of cousre is ingenious and awesome, and although I have seen similar things on the PS3, I've never seen anything like it on the PSP.

There's a few things I would adjust here and there. My biggest gripe by far is the final bomb-dodging bit. Maybe I just couldn't find the right rhythm, but I found that section to be fairly difficult and mostly annoying. The bombs just seem to come a little too fast and are spaced a little too close together, resulting in at least a dozen cheap deaths in that one section. Your yellow construction elevators also seem a little on the plain side and could use a bit of spicing up to match your excellent corner editing elsewhere in the level. The last thing I would do would be to change some of your speech bubbles to include cutscenes so that you can't accidentally run past them and skip the text. There were a few spots I had to turn around and press triangle to read the speech that I knew was important to the story.

Great level here and really fun to play. 5 stars and a heart!

Thanks Taffy, feedback very much appreciated!

**** it, forgot to tart up those lifts... maybe I'll republish, who knows. The bomb sections are easy once you figure out the trick - run under each laser just after the explosion the rhythm in the last section is slightly randomised, which is probably why you struggled

Well since LBUP deadline got extended, I republished to fix the little niggles pointed out in this thread... If anyone has time, I'd appreciate some re-rates since I lost a lot of love in the process 2010-05-10 23:19:00

Hello Bovrillor-

This is a really cool level. One of the things that I really like are the streetlights. It's interesting how you put the glass material in front of it to guve off the illusion it was actually on. Another thing that I liked was how the speech bubble where you had to get to the top of the building, it was cool how you made it seem like it was nearly impossible to reach it. I also really enjoyed the alien's het-ray segment, it was put together very well. The part where you were launched in the glass ball to the vehicle was very cool. The area with the tipped over cars was very detailed. All of the scenery was amazing. Overall, this was a really great level visually. Keep up the great work Bovrillor.

I rated it :star::star::star::star::star: and gave it one <3.

Hey Bovrillor,

This level was awesome. I thought it was going to be totally different, but it was even better. I loved the city design and the huge alien robot. It was good in platforming elements as well as some puzzle elements. I loved that wall climber design, genius. The lack of actual characters had absolutely no effect on the level. The mashed up cars was well made an set out. This level reminded me of Xenon's.

After escaping the aliens,
I finished the level and rated 5 stars and a heart.

A thrilling level full of surprises and with diverse gameplay.

The best quality is the sense of detail (those cars!) and specially the sense of scale: not only you feel lost in such a large city, the aliens are a real menace because they're BIG.

I enjoyed the level, although the music didn't fit at all and there were times where a better camera would have helped.

The level I'm creating takes place in a devastated city too. You set the bar really high for that type of level!

Glad you liked it lleonard, I admit there were several bits I would like to have improved but create mode simply would not let me And I couldn't find any music that seemed appropriate so I had to 'make do', as it were.2010-05-15 10:21:00

Hey Bovrillor,

Congratulations on winning the Ultimate Platformer contest as well as getting a Spotlight. Wow, you're on a roll! I really liked the amount of detail you put into the environment. Like others mentioned before me, the car pileup scene and the street lights were constructed really beautifully. In addition, I liked what you did with the various vehicles, and also that funky elevator one a little bit later on. The scenes with the alien was also thrilling as its sheer scale gave a really intimidating effect. The heat rays were also a nice touch and added some innovation in gameplay to the mix. As you can tell, I enjoyed the level a whole lot, so I hope you come up with more soon.

Heading back to the funky elevator,

You may not have won, but you certainly didn't 'lose' either... your entry was awesome and an instant classic! IMO it should have been a winner

I have no doubt you'll be earning a sticker sooner or later, your work is already excellent and will only improve with time...
