The Third Airship

Archive: 16 posts

This is my 3rd largeish airship. This time I paid way more attention to detail, and as a result it's smaller, but the stability is vastly improved! This thing has the smoothest flight you'll find on any vehicle. It's published in a demonstration level, "the airship III" if you want to check it out.

I would post some images, but photobucket isn't working ofr me at the moment (refusing to upload files) so, here's a video, kindly recorded my GreyMRP:

O_o Amazing... that's really a lovely piece of dirigible you've got there!! (Almost as good as Ayneh's...)

I'll definitely have to check this out once I get onto LBP...

Looks pretty good. I like that you can see most of it onscreen (I know that sounds silly, but some of the bigger vehicles out there run right off the edge of the screen so that you can only see a tiny bit). The handling looks pretty good as well.

One question: do you have to kill yourself to get into it? I'm not a fan of levels that require you to die (every level should ace-able). I'll have to try it out later.

Secondond Sehven; you should be able to fit a sponge winch in there to lift you into the cab. In fact I'm not keen on checkpoints in vehicles, for some reason it makes me think unreliability...2010-05-07 09:11:00

Ermm no you don't have to kill yourself, it's normally easy to get into, just stand on the front layer in front of the cabin, and jump, and you'll automatically get in. It's only tricky there because I decided to mess around with platforms and a releaseable tether on the display level :S. The checkpoint is there in case you fall out.

Keep your opinions to yourself...? There's no bigger put-down than "good, but not the best."

Great airship flyinghaggis! I love the stitching detail, and the steampunk theme is very consistent on it.

I agree, but give him the benefit of the doubt. He probably meant it in a nice way. Still, if someone told me that one of my mech's was almost as good as Ayneh's I'd be ******, so it's best to avoid saying things like that.

Since when is presenting a challenge ever a put-down? If anything, I find it encouraging for the creator to push his/her innovation further to achieve greater quality.

Also, you and I both know Ayneh is a great creator. I don't find it offending to compare one creator's object to another's. I compare both your's and her tanks all the time, and each has their own positives and negatives about them. I've never played favorites.

I guess it's the way I worded it before that has offended you so. I did not mean to discourage or demoralize FlyingHaggis' spirit if that's what your thinking. It's just my own, personal opinion about something. Besides... if we just keep praising everything then we won't see any effort to push the potential further.

Mmm i'd say Ayneh's is pretty good, but it's more a scenic kind of thing. It looks nice, but it's really slow and hard to manouver. Mine, on the other hand...2010-05-08 21:52:00

It can also make a creator feel there's no point for him to create when someone else makes the same thing, but better.

I agree. Someone came onto one of my mech levels and left a comment saying Ayneh's was better. Annoyed the hell out of me. I've seen Ayneh's walkers and they're impressive visually (they look better than mine), but functionally they've got nothing on mine.

This one is really great, Haggis. It's very stable and much easier to fly. It's beautiful too. It's detailed in your very Haggis style. Well done.2010-05-08 23:01:00

Very nice. If I may make a sugestion, would it be posible to make the moring tether a winch insead of a string and set it to kind of bob the air ship a bit? Make it look like its being blown around a little bit by the "wind". I realy like your balast at the end too. I will definetly have to look this thing up when I get home.2010-06-01 17:17:00
