Tutorial Spotlight

Archive: 22 posts

Well, Aya said I could make a new Tutorial Spotlight as the old one (https://lbpcentral.lbp-hub.com/index.php?t=7260-Tutorial-Spotlight) is out of date and CC doesn't really have the time to throw it together... and I have all the time in the world and like make useless lists, so here I am.

Anyway, the tutorial spotlight will be the spotlight for the best tutorials of LBP. If you feel there are any that deserve to go here, just post it and me and my oh so discriminating talents will formulate a good list... of sorts.

I also created a tutorial request, so that people can request tutorials... and hopefully someone makes it.

So, without further a do and ranting... Here it is!

Ho ha! Yeah, updated list, let me know what you think should be added.

Also, Incinerator, you mind making a new topic about the censored words, I don't want to link to posts... Cause I'm anal like that. D:

Anywho, yep, any more suggestions everyone? Also added tutorial Request section... because I thought it'd be a good idea. Added a tutorial request. I COULD make it, but I... /shrug. Anyway, I just wanted a place for people to request tutorials. Yes.

Any more suggestions?

Logic: The Pudding of LittleBigPlanet
(https://lbpcentral.lbp-hub.com/index.php?t=t=11184)

Brought to you by feloneouscat, this series (yes, series) of tutorials will teach you the "ins and outs" of adding logic to your LittleBigPlanet levels, from the basic idea all the way through execution and optimization. A must-read for any Creator looking for ways to improve their skills.

How to Tame the Pesky Wobble Bolt (https://lbpcentral.lbp-hub.com/index.php?t=t=7703)

Wobble Bolts are difficult to understand, so here's a guide detailing how to get around their quirks and harness their usefulness.

Magic mouths can drastically improve the quality of your level, but not if you don't know how to use them correctly! Make sure you're up to par with this awesome guide.

Additionally, for the logic section, I'd recommend rtm's Logic Blog (https://lbpcentral.lbp-hub.com/index.php?t=19365-Logic-Blog-updated-2010-01-19).

It's a tough call choosing what should go in. I'd say:-

Think in terms of what the community thinks is a good tutorial, not just stuff that you like. Hence my list of the most-thanked posts.
Too many is probably better than not enough, except perhaps with two near-identical tutorials.
When deciding between tutorials with similar content, pick the ones which are better presented (good formatting, have images, etc.), are maintained by active users, and more up-to-date.

I guess it's safe to add in any guide which covers anything which isn't covered by any other guide already in the list, unless they have absolutely appalling presentation, like a big wall of text with little or no paragraphs and bad spelling.

Of what's in the first post, I think we don't really need Logic: The Pudding of LBP. It's outdated, made by an inactive user, and not as thorough or explanatory as the logic pack.2010-05-09 19:25:00

Of what's in the first post, I think we don't really need Logic: The Pudding of LBP. It's outdated, made by an inactive user, and not as thorough or explanatory as the logic pack.

I added that in, because it contains a few things which aren't anywhere else, e.g....

The interchangability of piston/wobble logic (http://www.lbpcentral.com/forums/entry.php?404-Wobbly-Logic) (rtm's blog only mentions piston vs. winch).
The advantage of RS latches vs. p-switches (http://www.lbpcentral.com/forums/entry.php?418-My-RS-Latch-Can-Beat-Up-Your-P-Switch!)

...plus they're very well presented with lots of pics and whatnot, and still feature highly in the "most popular blogs" section, indeed the wobbly logic one ranks higher than any of rtm's.

I loved this (https://lbpcentral.lbp-hub.com/index.php?t=17804-Testing-and-breaking-your-own-levels)tutorial by Gilgamesh.
(Testing and breaking your own levels), would go in "general" I'm guessing.

Incinerator's "How to Upload LBP Photos to the Internet" (https://lbpcentral.lbp-hub.com/index.php?t=30449-How-to-Upload-LBP-Photos-to-the-Internet&p=528295#post528295) guide.
Plus Aya's "How To Avoid Distorted Avatars And Level Patches When Using Custom Stickers" (https://lbpcentral.lbp-hub.com/index.php?t=23443#post405980) is a gem of a tutorial. Many people would benefit from it.

I don't know if anyone has done this, but I would like to see a tutorial on how to to get the transparent level badge image into your level thread. I think the only step I am missing is uploading via photobucket instead of flickr, as flickr doesn't seem to like transparency..

I see it is a huge headache sometimes, and there isn't a tutorial on it, so I will make a tutorial on the corner editor for all of you, as I have used it extensively. Of course, I will be open to fact adds if I miss something. I will probably finish writing it up in the next couple of days, then post it soon thereafter.2010-08-22 23:49:00
