Why there shouldnt be LBP2

Archive: 24 posts

What else can you make?!??!?! What else can you add. You can update everything right now, if they can update this for 3d,update it for the move. We dont need a second game, just expansions. I would gladly keep this game and just get constant DLC, new powerups, levels, materials, costumes etc.2010-05-05 21:34:00

LBP is just a game that you cannot make a sequel of. It's just too great and the possibilities and packs they can make for it is just an endless variety.2010-05-05 21:46:00

Exactly, you cant sequal lbp. DLC makes the game in my book. Im still awaiting the pretty much gonna happen Uncharted 2 pack. MM knows they will make a pack with that game. It must be a level pack. But what powerup. theres so many games that could get packs. Infamous. We could easily get a level pack that gives us electric and magnetic powers. Imagine the possibility of magnetic boots. All the gameplay possibilities2010-05-05 22:14:00

I'd say have faith in Mm and see what they have to offer. They are clever enough to know what they need to make a sequel viable and worth while. Just because you can't think of anything else this game could have that couldn't just be added via DLC doesn't mean none exists.

A new game could mean a new game engine, which would mean a lot more possibilities. When you say they could 'easily' give us electric and magnetic powers...how can you be so sure? You don't honestly know how easy that would be to add.

I'm no coder but I think it's common sense that messing around and editing old code is much harder and messier than starting from scratch and putting all the changes together in a new engine. I actually wrote something similar in my creating guide; how once you've made something and know where you've gone wrong and what can be improved...instead of keep messing with it adding things, it is best to just start fresh and produce it in its most efficient form.

You could call LBP a massive beta...something to build on! I think everyone can see areas of the game that could be massively improved and expanded. There's only so much you can do with what's already built before it becomes inefficient.

I'm 100% confident that Mm wouldn't make a sequel unless they knew it was worthwhile. They aren't the type to cash in for no reason.

And please no one try and use the 'Sony buyout' as a argument against that point. I'm pretty sure Mm would have had massive talks about their direction and how their partnership with Sony would work before signing on. Do you really think Mm would say 'Hey yeah we'll be apart of Sony! *Signed*' and then Sony go 'Hey you're working on this now. You have no option'.

Just have a little faith. I'm pretty sure Mm know what they're doing better than we do

^Exactly this... thanks jack for the heads up on some folks that could be in the clouds dreaming(or having nightmares about a sequel)
I think the thing to remember is that Mm know what they're doing and we should, as real fans wait until they come up with a REAL hint for the sequel.

Why shouldn't there be an LBP2 you ask?
Mainly:
So people stop complaining about it every 5 secs
Gah, seriously, we all know everyone's mad ok?!

Look, it hasn't been officially confirmed that its gonna be an actual game or a simple patch, or expansion, or that its even in production at all!

And if they ARE indeed making this a whole new game, well deal with it, no amount of complaining is gonna make a company pull out a game mid-way through production.

And who ever said it was gonna be like LBP 1 anyways?!

It can be completly different, perhaps a more advanced and detailed creation preocess with different aspects, maybe a 3D, perhaps a shooter, who knows?!
It could be a completly different game having nothing to do with LBP ok!

So please stop complaining every 5 secs about this...

And to add to what everyone has said, even if they are working on a sequel, it's still ages and ages away. We all know how long it takes for games to come out once they've been announced, and it's not actually been properly announced yet.

For all we know, it could be for PS4! . And I'm pretty sure, they'll continue to release DLC in between making LBP2.

I say, let Mm do what they think is best, leave it in the hands of the best game developers that ever existed, I mean, have they ever let ya down?

The thign that's worse about these LBP2 for PS4 rumors is this:

LBP2 for Xbox360

I don't know where it came from, but I got some message on the PSN about boycotting this so called sequel, claiming that LBP2 should be for PS3. I deleted though, so I don't know who sent it, but I know that it was some obnoxious kid who just wanted to cause trouble.

I'm a coder and have been designing software for 30 years... Pretty much what Jackofcourse said. Even with expansions, there are a LOT of things they simply can't touch without breaking the current levels. Having the flexibility to start over with their experience could result In a far better experience. I'm really interested to see what they come up with.2010-05-06 01:22:00

You're kinda right, but I don't completely agree...
You can only go so far with Downloadable content and some things are better left for a new game.
But I'd really hate to leave behind all the existing DLC.

But looking at this in a business stand-point, Little Big Planet 2 would be an amazing idea.
I mean, you paid 60 bucks for the original release of the game, and then 5 dollars for all the Costume Packs, 10 dollars for level packs.
With what is out there already, you've paid more than $180 on a single game, WITHOUT COMPLAINING!
If they tossed out a sequel, I'm sure they'd be a little more conscious of how much went in to buying the game and lower the price (Say $30?). As for LBP1, you can't really add on to the story mode... You beat the Collector and he became friends with everyone and started Sharing. What else can you do? Well... A new story! But it'd be wrong to have Two stories for the same game, right? So you gotta make a new one for a new story with different game play, different maps, costumes, material, ideas, contraptions, etc etc. Little Big Planet is a game without limitation. So as far as I'm concerned, I'm perfectly fine with a sequel. Heck! I wouldn't mind a Little Big Planet 3 if it went so far! Just so long as I can pull my previous game data over

Also, you should also consider that LBP IS NOT THE ONLY SERIES MM IS ALLOWED TO CREATE. They could create something amazing, something spectacular, without anything to do with LBP.2010-05-06 02:31:00

Rose tinted spectacles anyone?

While I absolutely love the current game, it's as buggy as anything and an overhaul can only be a good thing with some very exciting possibilities!

I can't wait!

Rose tinted spectacles anyone?

Well, it's partly that. The other thing is that some people are concerned that all the work they've put into lbp won't transfer to lbp2. Whether it's just that levels won't be able to port or that we'll have to start the whole learning process from scratch, some people are understandably worried.

That said, I really like what JackofCourse said. Mm is one of the few devs that I wouldn't worry about. They seem to be all about supporting their fans, and whatever they do, I'm sure it'll be awesome.

Hm. I don't really have an opinion either way. LBP2 could be less buggy, or it could be buggier. Either way, I'm most likely going to buy it and enjoy it. ^__^2010-05-06 14:59:00

I can understand people not wanting to leave their creations behind, I've put my heart and soul into some of my levels, but it's not like they're going anywhere.

Didn't some Molecule confirm last year that any sequel would be backwards compatible anyway? It makes sense, I don't think they'd hear the end of it if they didn't go that route.

Either way, I'm sure once we get some concrete info on amazing new features, excitement will set in and leaving our old levels behind won't seem quite so difficult.

C,mon man, there needs to be a sequel, they can't live of this game for much longer, it is starting to die down... only like... a year left before people get bored... there may be some hardcore fans like me left if it does, but still, it's dying a bit... we need a new game to spice it up, restart our passion fo it..2010-05-06 17:55:00

It might be too much to download a whole new system for creating and playing, and some people might like the old one better.

So thats probably why there making LBP2.

Or maybe they make an entirely different game that is in no way LBP-related? LBP is not the only thing MM is confined to making.2010-05-07 00:50:00

There's SOOOOO much more that can be done in a sequel to LBP. So much more. This game is just the first small step toward a sprawling, epic future of community content creation.

I honestly think the future of this genre, and the direction Media Molecule wants to head toward, is a huge expansion of the "create your own ____" genre. Right now we've got modnation on the way, we've got LBP to make fun platformers - and if you want to think way outside the box, you can try to create a sprawling RPG, you can create pinball games and arcade shooters. But they're not easy to do, and require a lot of trickery. And there are still huge limitations, and some types of game that simply can't be done.

What we're going to see in an LBP sequel is a game in which you can create ANY type of game you want. If you want to do a point-and-click game, the tools will be there. If you want to create a top-down adventure game, you can do that too. If you want to create an RPG or an action shooter or a sidescroller or just a good-old cutscene-filled story, or a racing game, or maybe even a fighting game. The tools will be there to do all of this from the ground up.

Any argument that you can do this with LBP is missing the point. Take your average LBP gamer and ask them to make an rpg; a shooter; a top-down adventure. It's not likely to come out very well.

The community has spoken, the critics have spoken - this new type of game is here to stay. I promise you we're going to see a more universal game-creation type of experience in the future - I can't claim with any certainty that Media Molecule will do it first, but I think they will, and I think LittleBigPlanet's sequel will be it.

LBP could use a major overhaul in its mechanics. There's so many things that LBP doesn't have that almost all other 2-D platformers have gameplay wise. The game also doesn't feel near as "smooth" as a a 2-D mario game or Donkey Kong Country game. Media Molecule probably realized this and is now trying to improve.

Just stay positive and know that Media Molecule wouldn't be doing this if they didn't have to. LBP is extremely good for a first installment and hopefully the sequel is even better.
