OH NO!!! THE PRINCESS!!! World 7: Pipe MazeCaptainCowboyHat
The next-to-last entry in this series is ridiculously hard! Also there are pipes.
I fully expect to be hated for this level. Bring it.

Eeeeeeee best yet.

The whole rail system made me die of jealously when you first shown it me. So easy yet so clever. The mazing was perfectly done. It is mazey, but not that much that you don't know where you are going, which is a good job as I don't think getting lost would suit this series very well.

A nice difficulty again with some sweet puzzles. The 'new' King is awesome too, perfect!

I will probably post again at some point!

No improvements to tell you, not because you're amazing and it's perfect, because I've already told you them on MSN!

Anywho... yeah. Loved it. D:

... If I may though, you don't ened to be so humble. you know people are going to love it, say you expect people to worship you in the first poat

So the king's been kidnapped now? D: OH NO! HE KING!

I. Died. A. Lot.

But I loved every second of it. I scoffed at Jack's measly 4000 point score... until I put up 1500 myself. Wow, Jack. This level was surely your best yet, and I loved the theme. The rollers were brilliantly executed, and the carts that forced movement to the right were diabolical. Genius, but diabolical.

Needless to say, I gave this :star::star::star::star::star: and a big ole <3!

yea this level was amazing. the material choices were perfect for everything, even wen it abruptly changes from rust/stone to MGS stuff it works Completely. like everyone else is saying, the rail system for carts And hazard rollie things is perfect, especially considering the parts where its combined with puzzle elements as well. awesome job and Yes, easily the best in the series so far, so u've set urself a high bar for the finale. keep it up.2010-05-05 06:16:00

I'll put here what I stuck in comments on the level....

"Wow, my temper levels are through the roof, the air is blue and the neighbours think I have tourrettes or something BUT, awesome, awesome awesome, I loved it. I'm gonna play again for a better score"

I had almost 5k before the rail section, I finished the level with about 500 lol. Fiendishly difficult but bloody excellent. 5* and hearted

I got second with about half of Jack's score.
This was a reeaaaallllllyyy hard level, but I beat it! I can tell you have really improved on visuals from your previous installement. There was a lot of water gameplay, with electricity. The balls that you had to jump over, but still land on the platforms was a cool idea, it took me 15 deaths to get the hang of it, but I did eventually. I like how in all of your Oh no, the princess levels you have two parts. Like how one half of this level had a rusty look, while the other, had a futuristic look. This level is great in length (obviously), and I look forward to the next installement. Overall, this was a tough but fun level.

I rated it :star::star::star::star::star:, and gave it a <3.

wow, that was crazy hard. I think you're right, in saying it's the hardest yet lol. I was at 5000 points, and then i hit the section with the rolling electric balls and the moving carts. That section alone brought me from 5000 to 1500 lol. But it was awesomely fun, and didn't feel frustrating at all! (well, maybe a little bit ) But It's amazing that you can die on the same section 1000 times and still find it fun, not many levels can do that! Awesome level, 5 stars 2010-05-05 20:35:00

Wow, you are like the god of difficulty. Your levels are perfectly hard, (that's what she said) I die hundreds of times, yet I never get fusterated because it's so fun. Usually levels are just too fusterating so I quit, but something about your levels keep me from quiting.

Great job.

Absolutely loved it. I'd maybe cover the bubble emitters with barnacles/seewead cuz they look outta place. Maybe decorate the underwater parts with barnacles and stuff too.

I never knew you had such talent for characters! I LOVED robo king. The dinosaur king and princess BETTER be custom.

Also, will no8 be set in a castle?

I hated that section on the cart where you had to dodge the 5 plasma emitters. Blech. That ruined what could've given Jack a run for it.

LOVED IT! even if it was frustrating

It had the real OH NO!!! feeling we all adore, it had a new character? Evil King? sweet idea
The gameplay was hard as usual but it's good to have a tough level times to times and these times to times tough levels are yours actually... hmm I need to check out some more tough levels somday..
Well, nevermind, I really enjoyed playing it and when I played it last night, we were able to jump over the piece where you have to get a block or something to press a button (meh, I dont remember) and we were able to get above the wall and we continued to the left.
Other than that it worked.
:star::star::star::star::star: and a lovely <3

Well, I thought I had skilz when it came to LBP, but this has proved me wrong. I finished on a measly 717 points but it was worth it all the way. Best gameplay in a level I have seen for YEARS, man, absolutely outstanding. The balls on the rails is so unique and so well implemented. The hardest bit has to be the jump-on-the-electric-dude-up-to-the-button-to-emit-a-ball-to-roll-into-the-slot-to-raise-a-platform-all-in-one-go bit, which I was trying for 20 minutes! Any other level that hard would have lost my interest pretty quickly but it was fun hard, and that's something not many people can pull off. There wasn't a dull moment at all.

:star::star::star::star::star: and <3. Lovely work.

We'll have to be immortal before we'll complete World 8.

Back in 5th place with 5587.

I have a legitimate complaint about the spinny things just before the final boss. Those little squares seem way too difficult to grab onto. I died twice will holding R1 and swimming in front of them. Have you thought of making the grabby part more visible?

Cheers.

Seems like this has turned into a high score contest thread. Off topic no ?

Anyway to get back to the point of the thread it's just way too difficult even right from the very beginning. How anyone in their right mind can 'enjoy' that I have no idea. Every single part I saw. which wasn't much admittedly, was just annoying beyond belief. They aren't fair hazards at all. I guarantee you at least 90% of players on this forum would not be able to finish it and would be swearing all the way. Unfortunately they won't admit it because they seem to think that admitting something is too difficult for them is beneath them and they have to be seen as a hardcore gamer.

Still as most of these people are judges just put "spotlighted" beside the title of the level now because we all now it will be even though some of us hate it. If making an horrendously annoying difficult level is the way to get spotlighted then I guess that counts me out. Unfortunately I like to make levels that are "FUN" and nicely detailed. Guess that's a waste of time eh!

No one that posted in this thread has any influence on the spotlight you love to hate. I left weeks ago, CCubbage months ago. If you actually read the topic and knew who were members of the spotlight team were, you would have noticed this.

I admitted I was fustrated at points, but, once I'd passed a section realised the genius and originality of most of the hazards and ideas in it.

And I guess you ARE wasting your time when you're creating for a spotlight and disappointed when you don't get in. Why are you so negative all the time?

The level isn't actually unfair, it just isn't easy, there's a big difference.

I would have thrown my controller at the wall too if this had been made by lesser hands, but it's so brilliantly and deliberately designed. So original too. Fantastic. This level really makes me wish they had tightened up the controls when you're swimming underwater though, for me those sections are the hardest, simply because you really have to be Rocksteady Eddy with them.

I now have over 10,000 points, but there are a few major point bubble sources of which I did not take advantage so it is very possible to beat it.

I think my least favorite part of the level was the two motor bolt powered cylinders that turn on for half a second at a time. This part is more frustrating than any other part of the level, including the boss section and the vehicle section. If this is what a penultimate level is supposed to be, I'd hate to find out what Castle of Dinosaur King will be like. I'm guessing Warp Zone will be a survival challenge.

Two points I'd like to make. It seems that the MGS ending fanfare plays twice after you beat the boss. Glitch or on purpose? Also, sometimes the second part of the dialogue of the "authentic king" doesn't show when you arrive at the fork with the "friendly exit".

Other than that, perfection!

If your opinion and the definition of 'fun' were exactly the same then you may have a point. But they're not, so you don't. Fun is totally subjective, if you really are arrogant enough to believe that your opinion of this level can speak for all of us then I really don't know what to say.

If you don't like this level then that is fair enough but some of your comments are just plain rude. Of course the difficulty level will not suit everyone. Captain isn't trying to make a level for everyone. However, to call every obstacle 'annoying' is just plain wrong. I will happily run through this level with you and show you how easy it is once you understand the timings and when you have to move.

To bring the Spotlight into it is just a bit ridiculous too. To say that we are going off topic by discussing how we are enjoying playing this level and going for the top score, while using the thread yourself as a vehicle to once again push your clear disdain about the Spotlight is a bit hypocritical, no?

By all means dislike this level, I all have no issue with that, but to say that your opinion speaks for everyone is a little outrageous. The people who have replied in this thread so far are clearly capable of forming their own well-thought opinions. Many people have enjoyed it so far, so I would say Captain has already had his work repaid.

To also throw my opinion of MisterVista's comments into the ring.... I personally don't enjoy "expert" platforming levels, but IMO this is not THAT hard. By LittleBigPlanet standards it's a bit hard, but I really found it no harder than Nintendo's Super Mario Brothers. In fact, I made it about half way through the level without dying once (I made up for it near the end, though ).

The thing that struck me about this level is that it's SO darned..... fair. Before I did anything I would stand or float around, studying the environment. I was able to solve virtually every part by watching it. Everything made sense, and once you understand each part it isn't too difficult at all.

Another thing I appreciated is that NONE of the platforming was fiddly: there were no "tiny" platforms to balance on, no jumps that you could BARELY make so you had to try over and over, no tiny areas that you had to work through or die based on a small mistake. This level, to me, is what a difficult level should be.

There was only a single area that I felt was a TAD unfair the first time you play... where you have to hit the button to release the rolling cylindar with the key.. which needs to roll across the rolling platform to activate a lift. Since you can't see the lift you can't solve the puzzle without dying a couple times. However, that entire area is so stinkin' BRILLIANT I wouldn't want it to go away (once I solved it, it became one of my favorite areas).

I believe I am the first person who has a say in the spotlight crew to post here, and I'm sorry but I'm absolutely sick and tired of mistervista
throwing his negativity around
complaining he is hard done by
taking shots at the very hard-working crew we have and
claiming he deserves more than others.

You are not discriminated against in any way. Have you even considered your levels aren't quite up to scratch? We treat all of you fairly. Speaking of fair, this level couldn't be more fair. Tough, but fair. You can, as Ccubbage has said scout the area ahead and learn before attempting. Every piece of it is professional, visually solid, possible to do, even after a few tries and very very unique. I could not disagree more with what you have defined as 'fun' mistervista. This level is absolutely pouring with it. This is all about gameplay. The challenge adds to it in so many ways. I'd go as far to say this is one of the best levels I have ever played.
Almost every level that is of a slightly higher difficulty than eating the average donut I've seen you moan and complain. Why would all these people be on the scoreboard if it is as you assume, that they aren't going to admit they quit. The scoreboard is proof they completed it. You just lacking the skills to complete it. I've seen on at least 10 occasions you complaining of difficulty. Sure levels may be difficult, but they are allowed to be. People shouldn't have to tailor their levels as long as mistervista can complete it. There are a certain group of players dedicated to creating and playing expert levels. Just ask S3x_n_stilettos or whatever. Difficulty doesn't define a levels worthiness to a spotlight. I find it fun, Jack Definitely finds it fun, and frankly I will ask you to quit complaining over your own abilities. It's not the level's fault!

Throughout Derby where I live, there's currently some random problem with Virgin's boradband, and I'm unable to get on the PSN for more than 20 seconds before being signed out. Half the internet sites won't load up. It takes ages for me to simply post this reply on the forum. I can't even do some of my Uni work that's due in a few days because I have no working internets.

Yet all that doesn't bother me. The only thing I care about right now is that I'm unable to play this level.

I think you guys are giving mistervista more attention than he deserves. If he can't beat a level with only INFINITE LIVES, then he is not even worth the time it takes to reply to his flame bait (albeit it probably was an unintentional flame bait).

Speaking of which, CaptainCowboyHat. Have you ever considered writing a walkthrough of your levels (with details on the secret point bubble locations)? Maybe you could even put some prizes in your levels. They don't even have to be real prizes. They could be unique stickers that aren't of any use except to prove that you found the secret area of a level. Obviously real prizes could be stolen or lead to the moderation of your level if any modded level uses your prizes.

The Captain is too lazy for that. He spends most of his taking his socks on and off, he's a bit of an odd fellow. He also knows I'd hunt him down and punch him in the throat if he starts giving all of his secret point locations away. I had to find them all the hard way, so do everyone else!!!

I definitely think it is time to move on from MrV's comment. It's derailing the thread and spoiling the feedback on what is an exceptional level. I think the post has been covered enough so let's maybe just leave it at that everyone!

Do you reckon those fidgety cylinders would work better if they turned on for longer? I'm not really fond of that part myself.

I haven't noticed the MGS sound playing twice... has it happened each time you've played it? I can't think why that would be happening.

I don't know how to fix the dialogue thing. I have that problem all the time. Is there a tutorial floating around regarding not deploying dialogue like an idiot?

Yeah I definitely agree with tweaking that part...that's the one bit that I feel isn't quite as far as the rest.

Also...when you bounce up on the catapult, every time I played it yesterday only one magic mouth activated. I played it again earlier and another one also popped up about going to the 'safe place'.

That might need taking a look at (Unless it's that you've actually now fixed it and it's showing both all the time).

I give up, I got 6th place now with 5,200 points. I'll have to try better on the last one.

Well, I'll try again maybe. By the way, if you don't mind telling, how many secrets are in the level? I found 2 or 3.

I'm so stupid about dialogue being triggered, I never get it right

Just make a permanent switch and wire it to both of the magic mouths, in the order you want them to play. They will only play once, but will also only close when told to do so.

Congrats on this, lots of fun and death. The visuals are getting better and the metal pipe architecture looked great. The part with the moving platform and the electrified key that you have to get on to it into the slot was the most challenging. Died a few times but found some secrets so I have a fairly decent score. Bring on World 8!2010-05-07 06:57:00

I did the motor bolt wheels in one go. That was one of my favourite parts. Most parts were my favourite parts.2010-05-07 16:14:00

Ok Captain, I played it!
I was a bit worried cause Compher told me it was going to be pretty hard with 2 players, but we actually managed! (must have been my awesome skills! lol) The level is difficult, but it was extremely well made, and as someone here said, this is how a difficult level should be like. Even though I died quite a few times, I always thought it was pretty fun and challenging. Well done!

Well me, Jack and CowboyHat completed most of it as 3 players. That was before it was finished. That's your next challenge Jack. Ace it on 4 player 2010-05-07 23:14:00

Ace it with 4? I'm proud I made it through twice with different groups of four. We did ok. 2010-05-07 23:16:00

I have the top score in 2 and 4 players. Suck it, Jack. I've also started a level in this vein, and you and CCH need to stop by and check it out. It's wild. This level made me completely stop working on my previous project to pursue something more challenging...

I managed to pull off first place! That's a first for me in this series. I fully expect Jack to target my score. . I could have done much better, but I died several times near the end...... Awesome stuff! My son was watching me and kept saying "wow" at the different sections.2010-05-08 13:07:00
