The
LittleBigWorkshop
Monthly Level Theme
Create Contest

May

It's now May, we've received the last of the April submissions and now it's time to announce May's Theme for all you Creators and Creator Curators to begin working on for a chance to win that Rare Prize Crown!

The theme for May is...
Survival Challenges!

Survival Challenges

Ah yes! Survival Challenges! A theme that I'm sure that BigXam will enjoy!

This coming Monday, UK based developers Media Molecule will be celebrating May Day or more specifically enjoying their well-deserved day off. :smileywink:

Mayday also happens to be an emergency term used as a distress signal, when signalling for help.

And just which kind of level is Sackboy most likely going to be panicking and hoping for some help with Survival?

Well that's enough clutching at straws from me...

The point is that May's theme is...

Survival Challenges!

Don't think you need me to go into too much detail about what a Survival Challenge is, you all must have played enough of them by now. :smileywink:

Although one piece of advice, please try to be imaginative and creative with your entries, there's only so many Bomb Survival levels that the judges and the LittleBigPlanet community in general can take! :smileytongue:

Simply put, such a level is unlikely to score too highly.

With that out of the way, it's time for the rules...

Rules

1. The contest is open to ALL regions.

2. This contest is for the original LittleBigPlanet on Playstation 3, so please do not create and publish levels on LittleBigPlanet PSP for the purpose of entering this contest.

3. The level must relate to the theme of the month in someway, in this case the theme is Survival Challenges and therefore such an appropriate level is required to be eligible for entry. It shouldn't be too hard to meet this month's theme, however whether or not a level meets the theme for the month is entirely the judges' decision.

4. The month's entries must be published before the 1st day of the following month. Meaning that the deadline for this month's theme of Survival Challenges is the end of May 31st.

5. Once the deadline has passed, you may re-publish your level for the purpose of fixing serious bugs/problems or adding minor aesethic adjustments.

However you must not alter your level drastically, for example by increasing its overall length or adding entirely new sections to the level. Any level considered to have been altered drastically after the deadline will be disqualified.

6. Entries for each theme must be brand new published levels. We will not accept previously published levels that were originally published before the announcement of the month's theme. Any levels found to have been published before the announcement will be disqualifed.

7. Each player may only submit one level per month for the contest, any player found to have published more than one level will be disqualified for that particular month's contest.

8. There is only a single Prize Crown to be awarded to the winner chosen by the judges for each theme, which will be awarded to the PSN that the level is published under. You may use Online Create if you wish, however bear in mind that there's only a single prize on offer and it will be awarded to the publisher of the level.

9. At the end of each month, the month's theme will end and judging will begin. The judges consist of myself and a number of other community members who have been selected especially for the task of judging these levels. Whilst we will endeavour to pick the level that we feel is best amongst the entries, you may not always agree, however the judges' decision is ultimately final.

How To Submit Your Level

To submit your level for this month's theme, just add the term "(LBW5)" to your level's name.

LBW for LittleBigWorkshop and the number 5, since it's the 5th month's contest.

For this month though, the term is "(LBW5)".

Just put that term into your level's name and provided that you publish the level before June 1st and the level meets the month's theme, it will be eligible.

Judges will not be held responsible for not judging a level they couldn't locate due to not following these given instructions.

With the correct term in your published level's name though, we should be able to locate the level on the LittleBigPlanet server and judge it accordingly.

So just follow the instructions above and your level should be fine.

Once you've published your level, feel free to use a single post in this thread or even the Promotion Zone to promote your level to the masses, although whether you choose to promote your level further is entirely optional.

Please do not ask the judges if they have found and/or played your level yet.

Quite simply we will most likely have a lot of entries to get through and we just will not have the time to keep answering such questions, however I can assure you that the judges' will play every single level submitted properly.

Therefore it is vitally important that you remember to place the given term into your level's name, as the judges will not be held responsible for not judging any levels that they are unable to locate on the LittleBigPlanet server due to the level not being published in the manner described.

That's everything covered now, so feel free to begin creating!
Any questions, feel free to send a PM my way.

So LBW5, announced just wanted you guys to know

YEEESS! I love survival challenges (okay, not those seen on the cool levels page) and they seem to be the only good levels I succeed to create.
Now, off I go to create something unique and addictive which becomes the new boom on the cool levels page and everyone starts to hate it...

Awesome. I had an idea a while ago for a cool survival challenge but I abandoned it because it didn't work properly. I might have a go at making an entry for this one.

Alright, I'll tell you my idea, promise not to tell anyone?

Bomb Survival.

Now that I got to think about it, I guess there will be over 9000 bomb survivals and shark survivals entered... oh lawd...

Teh epicest survival evar!
A hospital on a train, that is getting bombed down while it fills with water and sharks. There are also some zombies on the roof and the hospital has a sinking floor.
Oh yeah, it has a paintinator and it also plays itself but breaks 4/5 of the times.

Hey, didn't I tell you that it was announced?

Meh. I'm making a survival. I've never seen the same kind before.

I have a tendency to overuse logic nowadays, and I've already got the main hazard done.

I have %85-90 left of the thermometer to blow on useless aesthetic logic!

I've also got a few good ideas for some kinda powerups that appear randomly...

Plus, I've never noticed how useful the MGS Searchlight was until now...

Ultimatelcay and rhys have been a big help... im pushing my creativity to it's limits, if i don't get that crown i might not be able to push out anohter entry for next time

The lbw2 results were published, actually. The Adipose won, and I think his level was called arena of the gladiators, or something similar to that.

By the way, I like this month's theme, I will enter, I have a good theme idea.

Indeed, and I recently posted the LBW3 results here (https://lbpcentral.lbp-hub.com/index.php?t=26110-LBW3-Sports-Theme-Results-Announced).

You published 3 LBW5 levels. Sorry, but as the rules say: You are automatically disqualified when publishing more than one level in one contest.

TRAAAAAIIITOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOORRRRRRSSS!!!!!!!! !

Or, you know...... Maybe not...

I haven't showed anyone my survival challenge yet... I've helped Alec a little with his level... But it ended up not working properly. (IT WASN'T SABOTAGE!!!)

I've spent at least 2 hours on my level. So much tweaking...

If I join to help someone, I promise that when I take out the object capture tool and highlight your whole level, it's a joke, and I'm not actually gonna capture it.

I'm pretty proud of it so far, but I'm not even close to being finished... I plan on having tons of random events and stuff.

In my opinion, it looks like a story mode level. (Except my small, almost unnoticable use of glitches...)

It really doesn't matter. This came up before (http://forums.littlebigworkshop.com/t5/General-Discussion/LittleBigWorkshop-Monthly-Level-Theme-Contest-March/m-p/238033/highlight/true#M127797)...

I changed my entire entry to another level, but the level is still published called "Dodgeball!" and my new one is called "WaterSkiing! LBW3" is that okay?Yes, that's fine because "WaterSkiing! LBW3" is your only submitted level for this contest

...which strongly implies that as long as each creator only has one level published which contains 'LBW5' after the deadline has passed, that's okay. Besides, I think you'll find it very difficult to prove that Steve ever had multiple LBW5 levels published at the same time anyway.

Either way, direct your concerns privately to StevenI rather than engaging in what is effectively a public smear campaign against another creator. Frankly, making comments such as this, and this other comment (http://forums.littlebigworkshop.com/t5/General-Discussion/LittleBigWorkshop-Monthly-Level-Theme-Contest-Feb-Winner/m-p/240506#M129037) about the winner of the LBW2 competition...

This level is really not THAT good! I don't understand why this won!

I am 100% against the decision of the jury!

...are really not doing you any favours.

when i 1st hear about this competition, i stated brainstorming on what would be a cool, fun, and inovative survival challenge.
and after ideas for volcanos, sewers, and other themes, i desided on an idea "the paint factory" i've been working hard, and its all working, witch im quite happy about couls it was a random emitting mess, but after some tweeking it turnd out perfectly. i really want that crown, and all the ppl i showed it sed its a winner. so im hoping for the best.

i'm in it to win it baby

maibe if i have time i can make a nother one and enter with a difrent acount, or would that be to much effort...?

Is it okay if I make a level that wasn't previously my entry into my entry for LBW5? I'm wondering because I published my survival challenge, "StormWaves: Turret Defense" earlier this month, and then I realized that it was applicable to this competition.2010-05-25 17:52:00

I think rule #6 answers that;

6. Entries for each theme must be brand new published levels. We will not accept previously published levels that were originally published before the announcement of the month's theme. Any levels found to have been published before the announcement will be disqualifed.
