Article 5 by Spark151Spark151
http://i424.photobucket.com/albums/pp327/staticspark151/LittleBigPlanet%20PSP/Article5.jpgWelcome to another story of
LittleBigNewspaper. Today's article will be
"Article 5" and enjoy the platforming.
Dang, it sure hasn't been awhile since I've published a level.
Anyways, this is my contest entry for "Ultimate Platformer"

I know, my image is blurry, but hey, at least I got one, right?
This level is just based inside the newspaper. The color scheme is in black and white.
The level is so amazing and I'm just glad to finally publish this. I'm hoping this level will get me a sticker too!
The level has many settings, including mostly city, island, and just many more random settings.
This level is not long, but it's not short either. Anyways, it is a platformer level, so don't expect to be like a back and forth sequence.
I tried very good at testing, and I'm hoping not to get a problem, and if I do, I will then have to fix it. -_-

I have had only one inspiration to this level, and their name is....
VelcroJonze!
Yes, his levels gave me a headstart on how I should make this level, if you look, it looks like something VelcroJonze would make, but no, that's not the case. It was all done by me.

I also want to thank these people for testing my level.
1. Spark
2. Spark
3. and don't forget of coarse, Spark

I want to thank him because without him testing my levels, then that would mean spoiling the fun to other people who tested the level.
So that means, this level will be a surprise for Taffey and Jeffcu.

Anyways, I hope you have a blast with my level. Oh! One more thing, there are hidden point bubbles in the level.
Can you find them all?

Thanks for the shout out Buddy!!

This level was amazing to play and amazing to look at. You captured the whole black and white look perfect. You have a knack at making parts of your levels dark looking and this was just a killer look to it. I had a blast playing this with everything to do and see a find it was truly a very fun level. Your mechanics always amaze me with your fresh contraptions and ways you devise to get sackboy through the level. My favorite part was everything.

You are at the top of your game my friend and this level proves it.

Five stars and a heart, and good luck in the contest, like you really need it!!

I don't have to put up the LBUP in the title, as long as I posted the level in the LittleBigWorkshop forums, then I'm safe.

OH MY GOD.
Is this level in black and white? My level, which has been in progress way before this, was in black and white (except for the background...). I don't really care, but I'm a little mad now, because I know that mnimmo (or however you spell it) will use this as an excuse to declare my level invalid, a ripoff, and keep the sticker out of hacker hands. I'm just a little frustrated, but at least if that does happen, I'll have lost to a no doubt amazing level. I'll play this when I've calmed down enough.

Sorry to hear that, but your not the only one to have data corrupted. It happened to me before, and this was when I didn't back up my game save too.

I'm pretty sure you and me aren't the only ones who made black and white themed levels.
I've seen many levels, on the PS3, that consist of black and white.

Man, this was a great level spark! The visuals were outstanding, you used the two-tone coloring just wonderfully, and used the perfect stickers in all the right spots!

I really liked how each page had its own theme and challenge. That one box with the doors that rotates was really cool, as always you incorporated some awesome gameplay mechanics! Lots of fun to play through, beginning to end- so fun, in fact, that I had to shoot for the high score- managed to tie with you for #1, spark!

Yet another great level from you spark! :star::star::star::star::star: and a heart, I'll be showing my friends without psp's this one

Great level, amazing graphics

BUT you lifted a few sections straight out of the ps3(rotating squares from the collectors, grabby roller things from the islands and the rotating rectangle thing from the collectors). Besides that, good stuff

I'm glad you liked the level with every page of it's own theme.
Oh, you got the same score as mine? You missed a point bubble.
It's possible to beat my highscore.

Did you not enjoy The Wilderness? Or do you hate the fact that I reused it inside a black n white level?

Oh, I'm not into doing levels over wifi on psp. It's not something I'm into doing.
Although, I will say that there may be a small chance that I will give it a try on psp,
On the other hand, PS3, I'll be glad to do it then.

I can't believe it has taken me this long to tell you about the level. First off, I just played through the ps3 little big planet, and the wilderness had to be one of my favorite themes. Though the squares gave me a pretty nice headache. I find it a lot more comfortable and fun on the psp. I really just got the ps3 version and I actually think the psp one is much more fun. I liked your whole black and white approach and haven't seen anything like it on the psp. I can really see that you are inspired by VelcroJonze, you seem to have replicated (in your own style) his kind of level. It was really pleasant to play, I really have to admit that I love everything you do... :star::star::star::star::star: for you and I had you hearted months ago. 2010-05-04 06:50:00

This is probably going to win you the contest, spark!
It's an amazing level with awsome visual powers, it want's me to play it. The gameplay was excellent, and in the words of an ancient green dude, "feel the platforming flow through you!" I didn't really get why it said " page 1" e.t.c., until I read the level description. But things don't have to have a point, or a story, it makes them more epic! Can't wright anymore cause I'm off, so good luck in winning the competiton, I have a good feeling about this one!:star::star::star::star::star: and a heart!

Hidy Ho Spark! Sorry that I am so late to giving feedback (I try my hardest to be one of the first to give feedback for you since you are so good with my levels ), but it just so happened that you published on one of the 4 weekends that I went to Hong Kong in the 9 months that I am in China.

Anyway, on to feedback:

Wow, I had a blast with this level. The entire concept is just great. I actually didn't read your description until after I had played the level, so I had no idea that you were inspired by VelcroJonze. You did en excellent job of being inspired by VJ, but not copying him, because I didn't even think of VJ while playing it. This level felt completely unique to me.

I loved the way that the level is divided into frames from a newspaper. What an excellent idea And on top of that, it is basically all in black and white, which was just great to see. All of the scenery was plain (due to the black and white), but fun to look at at the same time.

The gameplay was great too. It was basically a straightforward platformer, but it was the kind that I really like. Little challenges were peppered here and there, there were great camera angles, and some nice challenging platforming. It was a blast from start to finish!

I know that I have said this many times before, but I am SOOOOO happy that I am not involved in this competition. Every level that I have played for it so far has been outstanding! Great work Spark!

Hi, Spark! You made so incredible level that I loved it from first gameplay minute. We haven't many such levels on PS3 and just few examples on psp, so it shines like a brilliant! I had much fun during gameplay and many time was deeply impressed on you imagination and perfect work with materials, stickers and design. I think you created one more examples of LBP ART, as did jeffcu28 in ZEN level. So - my big respect for your work and of course 5 stars and heart for this level and good luck with competition!

Time to get back on feedback.... starting with.....

Captain Rule:

I find it a lot more comfortable and fun on the psp. I really just got the ps3 version and I actually think the psp one is much more fun.
I'm glad you liked this level, and pleasing to hear you enjoyed this level more than the PS3 one. Although, I liked the PS3 a lot more, but only because of the music.

I liked your whole black and white approach and haven't seen anything like it on the psp. I can really see that you are inspired by VelcroJonze, you seem to have replicated (in your own style) his kind of level.
Yeah, I wasn't sure how to do the style, but VelcroJonze's levels helped me decide on how I should make the theme.

The Forgotten:

It's an amazing level with awsome visual powers, it want's me to play it. The gameplay was excellent, and in the words of an ancient green dude, "feel the platforming flow through you!" I didn't really get why it said " page 1" e.t.c., until I read the level description. But things don't have to have a point, or a story, it makes them more epic!
That's the point!
To have no point, heheh.

Edit:Kind of accidentally posted, but I edited it to finish the response to each feedback.

VelcroJonze makes good levels, and I don't know how my level would turn out if I never met VelcroJonze.

Yep, I wanted the level to have sense on why it was all black and white. I like the title of my level too. Article 5

Yes, I wanted a straight forward platformer, only because I didn't want people to get stuck.
I'm also quite happy to hear that no one got stuck in my level.

I'm very glad to hear you enjoyed this level.
Especially hearing that you enjoyed the design.
I wanted the design of the level to be artistic, using very few and simple stickers.

Hey Spark, sorry for the late review. I was extremely busy recently, but I've been on LBPC more often now because I have more time. Anyways, at first, I had no idea why it was named 'Article 5'. I quickly figured it out when I started playing the level. And let me tell you, this is THE most unique level I've ever played. When I first started the level, I could not tell where to go because it was so dark, but I also had my PSP brightness on the lowest setting. As soon as I turned the brightness up, I could see, but everything still seemed dark, which was really cool. I also didn't get the 'pg1' and 'pg2' and so on. I realized what it was on pg7. It was page 1 and page 2, right? But that was a nice feature, once I figured out what it meant.

The different themes were all very neat. I'd have to say my favorite part was the part with the squares that swung around with the sponge attached to the corner (you know what I mean, right?), I think from the Wilderness theme? Anyways, that was really cool. The visuals of this level were astounding! I have truly never seen anything like this! The simple black and white turned out a lot better than I thought it would, and that really shouldn't be a surprise to me, because, after all, you're Spark. And that's saying enough right there.

There's a LOT more to say, but since I'm so late to this review, it's all already been said. This level is truly astounding and incredible! I definitely will be playing it again. By the way, this is your entry in the Ultimate Platformer contest, right? If so, I'll say congrats now, cause I know this will be one of the winners.
Thanks for the totally awesome level, man!
:star::star::star::star::star: + <3
And, I already creator hearted you weeks ago, but I guess this would best represent my feelings:
Haha, just kidding. But I really do love your levels, and if you stop creating....I'm gonna cry. Haha

Hahah, I had a feeling someone would have trouble seeing from the darkness, like when Amazingflyingpoo had trouble in the volcano of "Solid Journey"

Yup! That's from The Wilderness, to be exact, "The Collector's Lair"

I won't stop creating.
Although, I will admit that I may take long breaks later in life, just until a new level pack comes out, such as Turbo! Pack.

This is a masterpiece, both in visuals and gameplay. I was unsure about a black and white environment, I thought it would grow boring fast, but I was wrong. Clever use of stickers to create the proper atmosphere and give each page a particular feel.

As for the gameplay, there was moments where I got lost because everything was black and I didn't see where to go/jump, or thought that I could grab something that I couldn't... but that was part of the fun.

Congratulations, this is your best level so far. If this level is not one of the 5 winners o LBUP contest, I don't know what else may win.

Yay, I'm the last one to show up at the party! Well, last one yet anyway.

Yeah, it's been a busy week. Not getting into that now. What I will get into is your amazing bichrome level. As others have said, this is probably your best work yet. I say probably, because it's so different than anything you've done before that it's hard to compare. I can definitely see the VelcroJonze influence, which of course is a very good thing. Your use of the black and white theme is fantastic throughout, and I'm most impressed that you were able to come up with so many variations. I like how the theme is both unapologetic and cohesive from start to finish; it's as though Teebonesy's The Movies had an illegitimate child with a jackofcourse PSP level, and I mean that in only the nicest way possible.

The platforming is fantastic and well-varied, and you captured the elusive "pacing" element of a level very nicely. The whole level has a great flow to it. My favorite platforming bit is the section with the two odd geometric shapes that you rotate with switches. It's so simple and yet so perfectly seamless that you actually made me jealous. Some people seem to have taken minor exception to the fact that you borrowed platforming elements out of some of The Wilderness levels (and The Islands too), but I don't see any kind of problem with it at all. It is extremely rare that someone invents a totally new gameplay or platforming element - the vast majority of all levels out there (especially mine!) are collections of slightly altered copies of something you've seen done before. It's really all about the quality of the build, the pacing, the variety, and the context of these borrowed elements, and in my opinion you nailed it. Well done.

I don't really have any complaints. I suppose I could say that I didn't really get the whole idea of the different pages, etc., but I think the point of the whole level is to be esoteric and abstract, and I like it very much. I gave you 5 printed stars and a black-and-white heart. Great stuff Spark!

I just want to start by saying, thank you for the feedback. Every time I make a level, I just wait for you to give me some feedback because your feedback seems to be the best. Same goes for Amzaingflyingpoo and Jeffcu28. Anyways, time to reply to yours.

Hahah, funny and it means a lot.

My brothers thought that part of the level was trippy, and I can understand that.

That's the whole point! I just want to show my work of art, rather than the obstacles you play.

Anyways, I'm gald you enjoyed it. Unfortunately, someone posted after you, and heh, I need to reply to that.

I was finally able to connect my PSP to WiFi again, and there was much rejoicing.

Story

? Story? Who needs story? This is a platformer, for pete's sake!

Gameplay

+ Innovative from cover to cover
+ The black and white design is easy on the eyes and a welcome change of scenery
+ A platformer, through and through
+ Platforming elements are fun and interesting
+ The level's unique visuals create a one-of-a-kind atmosphere
- Designed for platforming alone, this level seems to suffer from a lack of puzzles

Final Thoughts
The concept behind this level is superb. Never before has such a level been done (to my knowledge), and your use of contrast really visually sets this level apart from all others. However, I feel the level suffered from a lack of puzzle elements. I realize this is an entry to the ultimate platformer contest, but I feel the level could be so much more with a little more "oomph" (even a few more interesting platforming elements would do).

My favourite part by far was the part with the two abstract rotating shapes. Though simple, after seeing how they rotate to let you pass I was astonished. This level has amazing potential and was visually stunning (for the PSP game), so a big "kudos" goes out to you.

To be honest, I actually tried to avoid making puzzles for this level; therefore, there aren't many.
I liked the story section your feedback too. Funny, anyways, I'm glad you enjoyed the level.

I'm glad you like my review style! Reviewing this level was my pleasure. I would've easily given it a 5:star: for design/concept, but I just felt it could've been a little more fun to play. Don't get me wrong, it was fun to play, it just could've included some more fun elements.

On a side note, I noticed this level is in the highest rated, and rightly so. Congratulations!

Hey Spark,

Phenomenal design once again Spark! I really liked how each page had its own unique visual theme and gameplay motif, and although some resembled those of the PS3 story levels, they felt fresh and reinvented. My favorite section of the Article was the page with the jungle immersed in darkness. I loved the dramatic effect, and I thought it was an ingenious way to make up for the lack of a lighting feature on the PSP.

Anyways, congratulations on yet another Spotlight! My, my...you have some mighty LBP cred!

Finally got round to playing this (I know, I know, I'm hopeless!) and wait for it... I love it. Instant 5 star/heart.

I thought the whole 'flow' of the level was great, at no point did I find myself frustrated or reminded I was playing a game. The bit with the rotating bridge you stand inside was pure genius, as was the bit with the two abstract shapes and switches. The difficulty was spot-on and the artwork was superb, with a noir-esque sorta vibe.

Congrats on the success of this one
