Piston flip on directional??

Archive: 5 posts

I'm re-doing up the visuals on an old level and I've been struck by the piston bug. It's not actually causing that many problems, I've managed to re-jig most of the on/off pistons into directional ones except one.

Its a platform that flips out and then pulls back in slower via a shot from the paintgun but directional pistons don't work with the flip in/out option. Can anyone think of a way of retaining the flip mechanic or at least mimic-ing it using directional pistons and some extra logic...??

Do you mean by using a paint switch to flip the platform outwards and then back slowly to its original position? You could use a winch to overpower the piston. Ill try to explain if youve done this before.2010-05-01 17:15:00

Yep, just grab the quick reset timer from the logic pack and use that mechanic to mimic the flipper action on the platforms. You will probably want to change the winch to be flipper in, with a slow time on it and have the piston directional with a grab switch constantly pushing outwards. Making the winch flipper will allow the following:
One shot activation so the paintswitch can be used multiple times
Prevents the player from triggering the winch before the platform has reset

Although if you do want the player to be able to trigger it before reset, simply set the winch to 0.1s.

Thanks guys, I'll try this out! I don't think I've ever used a winch in tandem with a piston, although i know its commonly done.

EDIT - Fantastico!
