Front View Switch

Archive: 8 posts

Hidy Ho Sackfolks! So, I was showing my wife how it looks when you switch between Front View and back again, and we came up with a fun idea for a new tool:

What about a switch that you could put in a level that would switch the perspective to and from Front View? This could lead to all types of fun puzzles and it could also lead to a HUGE amount of variety in the way that levels look!

I just imagine the possibilities of implementing things into LBP to make levels like EchoChrome or Paper Mario (just to name a few). Having the ability to give the player 2 planes to walk in, and then taking it away would add a HUGE dynamic to the way that levels could work. I would wager that something like this could change the game as much as a Paintanator or Water, and unlike the Paintanator and Water, the PSP should be able to handle it

I can't imagine that it would be all that difficult to implement into the game since create mode let's you use front view. I tried running around in a level that I am working on, and switching between Front View and back to regular view, and it is remarkable to consider how interesting it would be to see this implemented into a level.

I could go on and on about this, but I was just wondering what your thoughts are? Would you like to see a Front View Switch implemented into the game? Do you think that it could be implemented pretty easily since the tool is already there in create mode and it doesn't cause any lag when you use it? Are you sick of my long posts about topics that only I care about?

well it would help with those "puzzles" of life
it might also help with those difficult things to do while playing a level.
it would be awesome to be able to use front view through the "whole" game instead of just in create mode! >
cambridge do something right for once with this front view!

poo, thats exactly what i was thinking the other day. it would be perfect for a 2D "drawn" level such as my doodle world that i kinda abandoned(dont kill me!) I was actually considering making a level like that with instructions for the player to play it in create mode with front view on. my visible mechanics wouldnt help though2010-05-01 14:24:00

Awesome idea poo! As usual, why didn't *I* think of that?? I already have ideas for a concept like ZEN where you're trapped in a painting. The view switches from 3D to front view when you're trapped in the painting, and when you escape you go back to 3D. That would be awesome! Perfect for creating an old-school sidescroller.2010-05-01 16:27:00

It's important to note, however, that the front view does not merge layers, it just makes them appear merged. So it would be a little more work to create this one layer merge that is being discussed. Regardless, awesome idea!

Raining on the idea parade,

That would be great for making platforming games, and you could just put clear glass in the background to clear up the plane switching problems.2010-05-02 21:03:00
