How do I downgrade my game?

Archive: 14 posts

Okay, I want to downgrade my game so I can use the cow glitch for a few things. How do I downgrade my PS3/LBP?

-Will I need to back up my game? If so, how?
-Will I need to backup important files on my PS3?
-Will I need to backup my other games?
-What will I do with my DLC's?

Well I don't know about downgrading your game but I know of a level by Sehven that has materials that have their properties switched. He has the basics as far as what materials there. And the properties that he has are Dissolve, Pink Floaty, Peach Floaty, and Dark Matter. I can't really go into detail too much about it, but try it out and you'll see what I mean. Just search "@Sehven" and you should find the level. I think it's call "glitched materials" or something.2010-04-30 19:10:00

Don't hold me to this as I'm not entirelly sure if it works, but I can only suggest this.

Somewhere in Game Data there are loads of LBP files. Delete them - EXCEPT a backup of your profile data. Now log into LBP while you are OFFLINE - the game should have reverted to its 2008 first-released state. Cow-glitch whatever you need, then reconnect to PSN, download your DLC from your downloads list on the PS Store, reinstall the updates and go back into LBP online and install your profile. Simples! But, having not tried this myself, I'm not 100% sure if it works.

Sounds like a good idea. And, PSN keeps your DLC info? I didn't know that lol.
Does anybody know if it works?

Uninstall the LBP data.

This of course will make any DLC unusable (until you update again only).
I'm not sure it will delete your profile data, it used to, but now ith ne modifications i don't know.

Okay. How will I get my DLC back? Does Playstation store have something where I can re-download everything I've purchased?2010-04-30 19:42:00

IF it dissapears, which i think it won't, but if it does you can always re-download it from the store, or if not, go to account management - Transaction management - download list, all your DLC should be there to download and re-download any time.

Hope that helps.

I've done this a couple times. There are separate game datas for your dlc and the updates, so you can just leave all the dlc installed with no problem.

1. In lbp, export your profile (in the pod, hit Start, go to profile, settings, export).
2. Under the xmb's game data section, delete everything lbp EXCEPT your dlc. (dlc is re-downloadable, but recently some people have been having trouble re-aquiring a few, such as the valentine's pack).
3. Fire up the game. It'll ask if you want to update. Mm has bundled up several of the previous updates. The first will bump you up to version 1.02, which has a few things fixed and still allows the material glitch (I refuse to call it the "cow" glitch), so you can let the first patch download and install. After that cancel it (the next update takes you all the way up to 1.18, which doesn't allow the material glitch). Fire up the game again and click O to skip updating and go straight to the game.
4. Your previous save data won't work, even if you still have a save file from just before leerdammer. You can either go through and re-unlock everything, or you can head over to gamefaqs.com and download a save file with everything unlocked.
5. Make whatever glitched mats you want and put them all in a level.
6. Restart lbp and let it run through the update process.
7. Don't restore your profile yet. Go into the game and publish a locked version of your glitched material level.
8. Import your profile backup to restore everything to the way it was before you started.
9. Download your locked glitch level.

This is the process Aya and I have used to roll back and get some glitched goodies. If you're lucky enough to have done a full hard drive backup of your ps3 when other patches were active, you can pull off some other glitches.
Please note that 1.02 does not allow the green gas glitch, but the material glitch works fine. Also, there has never been a way to material glitch the mgs materials since the glitch was patched before the mgs pack came out.

Well, I was just about to post a more comprehensive guide in the tutorials section, but I'm not sure if it's still worth it.

2. Under the xmb's game data section, delete everything lbp EXCEPT your dlc. (dlc is re-downloadable, but recently some people have been having trouble re-aquiring a few, such as the valentine's pack).

More specifically, only delete the profile for the user you just backed up, and the patch data file which is the 795MB one called LittleBigPlanet?.

7. Don't restore your profile yet. Go into the game and publish a locked version of your glitched material level.

It's easier just to export the level from the crater to a level backup file.

9. Download your locked glitch level.

And here, you just need to reimport it.

However, it's quite a painful and tedious process, so if there's some specific material combination you want, I probably already have it, so just add me on PSN, and I'll get some for you.

How big? I mean there's only about 2000 possible combinations.

Really? I thought of 9001. :o

Jk, jk. lol
Making a bunch of different sponges, pink floaties, cardboard (sponge and wood), some dissolve materials, and some others that I can't currently think of.

I did this a while ago as I needed lots of different dissolves. It wasn't fun playing through the whole game AGAIN (my fifth time!) just to get the materials I needed.
And you also can't get any DLC materials if using this method - or at least I couldn't, as I had to stay disconnected from the net to stop connection issues.
It might be easier to search online in-game for the materials you need. Most of what you need will be out there somewhere.
