14 People refuse to let Microsoft shut down XBOX servers!

Archive: 27 posts

For those who don't know, Microsoft decided to completly discuntinue ALL Xbox servers, not 360's servers btw, those are fine, only the original Xbox's (That Bulky box over there in that corner sitting next to the GameCube ).

Well anywho, it just came in that 14 people are refusing to log out to be able to keep playing Halo 2, and as you may or may not know, they cannot shut down a server unless all users are logged out.

So until all 14 users (if ever) ) log out Microsoft has to Maintain and run the server!

So would you look at that, guess one person CAN make a difference huh? XD

That's just stupid. It's causing Microsoft to pay God knows how much just for 14 people? I would just ban them. It's pointless, it's wasting your time, and it's hurting your Xbox. Just let them shut them down.2010-04-30 19:00:00

Ha ha, good. I am a self-appointed PS3 fanboy so I'm actually quite glad.

C'mon XBOX fans. Rip me to shreads! See if I care if I speak out my opinions!

Since when do you need all users to log off before being able to shut down a server? That doesn't make sense. Something seems fishy.2010-04-30 19:18:00

No way I would do this from a 360. My dusty old xbox however maybe, if I had Halo 2 and actually liked the series that is 2010-04-30 19:31:00

iv done the same thing. On the first year anniversary of TF2 they allowed a free, three day trail for anyone to play. However i made it last 6 hours longer for me by not logging off of the game

Well, they ARE 100% in the rights to play a service they payed for as long as its withing their payment limit.
And besides, would you not do the same if PS3 decided to shut down all online service? (Don't ask me why, they just decided to or something)

I said THEY as in teh Xbox servers maintenance or whoever runs them.
All i know is that they need them to log out first because of some law or something, i'm not really sure.

Yeah I know, I meant "you" in the general sense of everyone. There's no technical limitation that would prevent a server from being shut down with anyone still logged onto it, it happens all the time. If it's a legal or contractual issue though, I'll leave that to the lawyers.

They would need to wait for all players to leave the server because they paid for xbox live service. If they shut down the server while they're still playing, they would probably be going against some fine print somewhere.2010-04-30 20:21:00

People have been banned for less. Haha. Halo 3 kinda ***** all over Halo 2 anyway, it's got so much more to do. Sorry, fans, but it's true.2010-05-01 01:42:00

Actually it's down to just 12 now :kz:

And those 12 got beta invites to Halo Reach from Microsoft... Like they're saying "GET OFF OUR SERVERS" D:

And 767, that's different since the server would still have been up, just would have to have paid for it but it still would exist... IT's odd that Microsoft is even keeping the servers up O_o

Ha, that's quite funny (if true).
I hope it continues, good luck to them.
They might get better stuff if they hold out for longer.

The funniest thing is that they must all be playing each other, as there is nobody else to play with, because there are only 14 of them.
Bet they're all in contact, and possibly members of Sony, in an attempt to waste Microsoft's money

Oh, lol this is hilarious. I wish I could be doing this just to annoy Microsoft.

So what's happening to the other4 people who have been disconnected? Did they lose connection or something?

It started out with allot of people and started going down and down. When the thread started on the bungie forums I believe there was about 24 people on. The 14th and 13th people who lost connection was due to the live video stream they were trying to run. Unfortunately all this is just press for Microsoft saying yeah our 360's can run 2 weeks straight online.2010-05-01 10:40:00

Microsoft is actually encouraging it. Take this quote from a Cnet article about the whole thing:

"But Microsoft is also applauding the players' efforts to stay logged into Live. On Friday, Stephen Toulouse, director of policy and enforcement for Xbox Live, tweeted his encouragement: "To those noble folk keeping halo2 alive: we see you, and we salute you."

I think it's pretty cool that they aren't simply shutting down the servers, but letting these guys have their fun.

Yes, but a lot less honoured, as far as I'm concerned, to be a Sony Gamer. I wish I was a part of the Microsoft world right now.2010-05-01 14:44:00
