PSP Level Quality Improving
Archive: 21 posts
Hidy Ho Sackfriends! I went on a feedback binge tonight (well, for me it was a binge... I'm a feedback lightweight, so giving feedback for 3 levels is a lot... It would be a small feedback snack for Taffey or Jeff) and played ali985's Magical Forest, Captain Rule's S.I.A Mission One: 'Take', and Domik12's Save, Die, Reload, and after 3 incredible levels in a row, I just couldn't shake the feeling that we are really advancing as a community. I remember that just months ago, when I played levels I would think to myself that even the best of the PSP levels would maybe be so-so on PS3, because the quality of PS3 levels is so high. I sort of doubted that the PSP would ever reach that level because we have so many obstacles to overcome with a buggy create mode, worse community options in game, etc... Now my mind is completely changed. I am starting to wonder if I can even keep up with all of the incredible authors we have on PSP. I sometimes worry that I might need to toss in the towel because you guys are improving at a tremendous rate. It is seriously starting to feel like the same atmosphere that is on the PS3, where it seems that incredible levels are coming out on almost a daily basis! It's an awesome thing really, and what is even better is that we have an awesome community right here which contains a majority of the the authors that are steering the direction for the future of LBP PSP. Just consider the fact that all of the recently Featured Levels and Players are from LBPC Hmmm... I don't really know where I am going with this at this point, I just wanted to point out how happy I am with the state of LBP PSP. Are the rest of you feeling this way? | 2010-04-30 16:04:00 Author: amazingflyingpoo Posts: 1515 |
Yeshumz. Only I cannot create a thing on lbp psp but its good to see that others can! | 2010-04-30 16:10:00 Author: KQuinn94Z Posts: 1758 |
I feel the same way. IMO the PSP level scene has evolved a lot more quickly than on PS3. If you look at the early PS3 levels compared to the current ones, it's like night and day. And I feel that right now the same can be said of PSP levels. With more tools/objects/things on the way, I think it can only get better. | 2010-04-30 16:11:00 Author: Gilgamesh Posts: 2536 |

I think that it helped that a lot of the early PSP authors were creators that were from the PS3. Some may not have ever created on PS3, but they had at least seen what others came up with. They could transfer the ideas and innovations that people have used to evolve the PS3 version into the PSP version, and then others who didn't have the PS3 version could see them and follow them as well. I think this whole cycle really helped the PSP version to evolve in a fraction of the time that the PS3 version did. | 2010-04-30 16:21:00 Author: amazingflyingpoo Posts: 1515 |
I was just about to create a topic about this! (weird...) Anyway, on topic! I do feel as though we are getting loads more great levels and creators now! Though only bad thing is I have to work harder to keep up! | 2010-04-30 19:30:00 Author: Fastbro Posts: 1277 |
lol i "am" a good creator, am i right or am i right? my levels are getting better by the day. but man i need to try to bypass most of you guys and gals, hah but i dont think that will ever happen "yet"! >.> but maybe some day i will be as good as you guys and gals | 2010-04-30 19:36:00 Author: fatcat1413 Posts: 132 |
It's really pretty crazy, I remember when I only had a couple creators hearted, and any levels not released by them wasn't really worth finding Now every other day there's another great level, most of them from LBPC! It's totally awesome I sometimes worry that I might need to toss in the towel because you guys are improving at a tremendous rate. Don't you dare! We need you, Poo! :hero: | 2010-04-30 22:44:00 Author: SeekingTruth86 Posts: 151 |
any improvements on my part have been a result on all the wonderful feedback you and everyone else has given, and more importantly the ideas, support and inspiration. Most of the good creators are from lbpc and that is only further proof of everyones impact on each other. So thank you poo, and thank you everyone else | 2010-04-30 23:00:00 Author: Alismuffin Posts: 1328 |
I don't have a PS3 and the closest I can get to trying out levels is watching videos of them. While the PS3 levels do seem great, LBP PSP has amazed me so much ever since ^^. I never thought a game could be this fun XD. And with levels coming out like this and improving each time, it never ends. That we get to talk the creators of our favorite levels on a site like this makes it even better. SeekingTruth is right XD. No towel-tossing for you! Your levels will always be unique ^^. | 2010-05-01 02:54:00 Author: Phalaina Posts: 181 |
Wow. Sorry for the bump, but this is the perfect time for me to comment. It's amazing how much you can improve when you have great feedback and great inspiration. If you had told me a month ago that Blue Behemoth was my level, I would have laughed and then asked when Jonze had finished this new level. Thanks as always to all the helpful creators of LBPC! | 2010-05-17 01:59:00 Author: Voltergeist Posts: 1702 |
I fully agree that there seems to be an increase in quality of levels. Though it seems that levels are coming at much slower intervals. The only reason I was able to make a good level was because I sneaked into Poo's house and stole the recipe. Bwah hahaha X3 Really though, I just had to sit and stare at the game for some time. I've always been relatively smart, so I'd just try real hard to find a way to do what I wanted. Doesn't always work though. | 2010-05-17 02:59:00 Author: Captain Rule Posts: 360 |
That's very true, I realized this after playing Magical Forest and Destiny. It's going to be tough for me to make a level that is as good as the ones these days. | 2010-05-17 22:39:00 Author: X-FROGBOY-X Posts: 1800 |

I made an awsome recipe. Look at the quote in my signature. | 2010-05-22 05:16:00 Author: ConverseFox Posts: 2333 |
I'll give it back Poo... Thanks for letting me borrow it without permission. Hi5! | 2010-05-22 06:59:00 Author: Captain Rule Posts: 360 |
I prefer the PSP LBP to its big brother which I have and rarely play. It seems more focused on actual game play due to it being single player. Also the lack of trophies and all the levels players make trying for quick cash-ins are not missed by me at all. Finally the PS3 levels seem to lean very heavily toward aesthetics. Don?t get me wrong there are some great looking levels on the PSP. But since its power limitation creators have to get a little more creative to accomplish it. I think this process leads to better playing levels. | 2010-05-22 07:42:00 Author: Xenon Posts: 306 |

It's much the same with older video game systems (e.g., Genesis, NES, Atari 2600, etc.). They couldn't always rely on graphics and had to make the gameplay compelling to complete the experience. The PS3 analogy applies to movies these days as well. Anybody can make a mostly-cool CGI sequence, so who needs a story? | 2010-05-28 18:15:00 Author: Taffey Posts: 3187 |
I had a really good level but now it takes literally forever to load so I gave up on the whole project. | 2010-05-28 18:23:00 Author: TheOfficialVen Posts: 155 |

Thanks to Taffey for replying so that the thread got bumped and I read it again. Anyway, I really feel this way about LBP on PS3. It got to the point where people would dismiss levels simply because 80% of the thermo wasn't being thrown at the scenery. I had a series on PS3 that was very well accepted, but I had a terrible time getting some of the...erm... elitist type folks to even take a look at my mechanics and story in the level because they disregarded it immediately based simply off of the fact that it didn't look amazing. Don't get me wrong, I put a LOT of time into the scenery, I just had to put a lot of the thermo into tech, so I couldn't put nearly as much into thermo as a lot of other authors do. However, people seem to be just fine with my levels on PSP! It was a bit of a shock going from PS3 where most people on LBPC would push me away for my level style (focusing my thermo strongly on tech and story), to PSP where people have been very kind and considerate of my level style. yes, PSP levels have been improving. | 2010-06-15 03:20:00 Author: VeRsioNs_Z Posts: 341 |
I remember the first level I downloaded it was a giant block that covered both layers had no stickers objects end ect. I decided that it was impossible for level to get worse than that and they were then. Havnig dwonloaded levels for ages now I have been able to see levels get stories and stickers and less pre made stuff ( this is a general statement) I feel privaleged to be able to see such improvements and use of what is available ( including gltiches). I think trhat now that levels have started to improve the just seem to have kept on improving Eventually I think that almost all levels will be of a superb quality In short yes I think that levels are inproveing | 2010-06-27 15:52:00 Author: unXpectiD Posts: 1132 |
