Explosion question.

I was wondering how someone would go to making explosions of this detail?

I was floored by this level, the explosions have so much intensity, and if I could even replicate a tenth of them I'd be more satisfied.

Oh, and if anyone knows how to make those falling orange specks (Like burning embers) that'd be great.

IMO Those explosions don't actually use explosives.
It's just lights and emitters.
Timing is what makes them epic.

You can activate the emitters multiple ways, mag keys, paint switch, etc. To make the bright light just emit a large radius LED and for the smaller ones I am not as sure but you could put lights in the object or you could use compression method and then capture and then emit.

I bet you could just PM anpostteller and he could OC with you to help make them, just a thought.

Those explosions are probably made by combining a couple of techniques... I believe the sparks are made of LED lights, which are shrunk down and emitted as the enemy dies. LED's, when made very small, actually float downward rather than fall so if they're small enough you can use them to achieve this effect.

The camera shake, is made by attaching the camera onto a piston, which goes up and down when the enemy is destroyed. That creates the earthquake effect.

The explosion itself looks like it too was an emitted light, that emitted itself with some logic. It starts off very bright, and then fades out. You can do this by controlling the light with a mag key that's set to speed.

all the debris that flew everywhere for the larger explosions was also emitted. /using the emitters you can really make objects look like they're flying all over the place, if you place them properly.

To build those explosions all you have to do is put all these elements together so that they are synced properly. Add some sound effects and you're done!

For what i observed:
Once the object reaches 0 points with the paint switch, it emits a small light, probably a fairy light, and activates a camera that makes the "shock" effect, and simply emmits little pieces of what appear to be cardboard and poliester painted in orange-red to fall down.
And like Jazbe said, it has to have the propper timing or else it won't work.
