rtm233's waterfall

I've been following the instructions but some parts aren't clear. I'm guessing that's right when I put it into an emitter it has a huge gap between the emitted pieces. I'm not sure. But is it supposed to be one piece or two pieces that fit together? It says to make another to see if they fit together but it doesn't clarify whether to keep it.2010-04-27 06:37:00

It is intended to be one piece that fits together with itself. At a guess, I'd say you've messed up on the calculations somewhere. If there is a large gap then it could be that when you try to emit, the new instance is blocked and so has to wait for the emitter timer to come round again and emit a new one. What happens when
You increase the emitter frequency timer by 0.1 / 0.2s
You set the emitter frequency to 0.1s

Have you tried the technique with a simple rectangle first? I'd advise this as it simplifies everything and is a much better first step to getting your head around the technique.

Thanks. I'll see what happens. I never thought of trying with a simple rectangle. I'll get on and see if it work right now.2010-04-27 13:44:00

Simple rectangle will give you a conveyor belt-type mechanic. It's where this originates from 2010-04-27 13:49:00

I tried making the piston move slightly faster. As long as it's only slightly, the extra gap is invisible. This tech works a treat with my chevron-shaped conveyor belt - TY rtm 2010-04-27 21:15:00

I've figured out what was really giving me problems. It's mainly the formula you have set up.

What are the units? You mention making it 5 big grid units high. But later you go to medium grid units for where the piston will attach. I'm not sure which units you were referring to when you said "For a sheet of material 60 units high"

Is that big grid units? That seems massive. I'm sure if I understand the variables and units I can get this working.

50 units (5 big grid squares)...
5-units (2 small grid squares)...
etc.

Units are the units used by connectors when they measure their lengths. i.e. if you set a connector to 5, that is 5 units. which is the width of 2 small grid squares. I had a scan through and I don't think I've used the term "units" ambiguously, although it does look as though I've stated the material to be 50 units high and 60 units high in two separate places... Anyways:

1 grid square = 2.5 units
1 medium grid square = 5 units
1 big grid square = 10 units.

Thanks that helps out a lot. It was the 60 units part. I wasn't sure on the units and the grid conversion. I'll put that somewhere in some notes.2010-04-28 21:37:00

Do you have to put it on the original waterfall or the block of DM to emit the waterfall?2010-05-04 06:24:00

You might wanna clarify what "it" is, if you want that question answered 2010-05-04 11:10:00

Does the emitter needs to be on the original waterfall or the block of dark matter to emit the waterfall?
