My very own Sackboy figurine (custom project)!

Archive: 9 posts

Eager to have my very own Sackboy, I started this project to create one. I had a little trouble begining, but once I got a good shape it really snowballed into a great little happy gadder. Posted here are some pictures of the creation process and the final result!

I used a white Laguna (http://www.lagunaclay.com/) clay to make my Sackboy. I found that the body has a sort of bean shape, and the legs are bent cones. The head was the hardest part to get right. It's a kind of cylinder that tapers just slightly towards the top.

I put the arms on and shaped the body into a more Sackboyish figure. The entire thing was smoothed out and I started to work on the zipper.

I went through many different shapes until I was satisfied with my zipper. I found it to be much narrower than I had expected.

With the zipper done, it was time to add texture. I made a "knit" pattern with the flat end of a wooden pottery tool; it was quite tedious, but I achieved the desired effect. I then bisqued it to harden the clay (after letting it dry for a few days*).

After painting, my Sackboy was complete! It took about one week to create because of drying times and whatnot.

I used a very expensive silver metallic paint for the zipper to make it shiny

I am very proud of him and I encourage everyone to try something of this sort! If you have any questions regarding the creation of your own little Sackboy, please feel free to send me a PM or ask in this thread! It really is loads of fun

*I let it harden for so long lest it explode when being fired. If there were any moisture in it (mostly the head) when it was heated, the steam pressure would have cause it to explode. Causing sad faace D:

Haha! Love it! Next one should have a crazier smile, but it looks -really- good. How big is it? Could you post a picture with like a deck of cards or a PS3 controler for size reference? You know something we all have 2010-04-26 19:19:00
