The ‘Cherry Pie’ Update (2.05) for PSP is now available for download! Check out all the shiny new bits and pieces we’ve included by following the link below.
To upgrade you’ll need wireless access: On the PSP™‘s XMB™ Menu, highlight the LBP™ icon and press the triangle button. Select Update and follow the instructions on screen… but first, let’s see what’s new!
New Objects

The Microbomb: a smaller shockbomb, which can kill creature brains and Sackboy, but won’t break anything else. Small, red and deadly, the microbomb is our new favourite toy, ideal as a grenade or as an explosive tip for a missile. Ka-boom.
The Magic Eye: give your creatures (and anything else) some peepers. Just put eyes on something, anything, and it’ll look at Sackboy when he’s near it, as well as making that object suddenly look sentient, and well, a bit weird.

Functions

Flip for Objects is now supported, so you can make them face in either direction. Very handy for vehicles.
Front View: removes all perspective, allowing that extra level of precision for all you creators who like to see exactly what you’re doing.
Circular shapes are now true circles. Previously they were twelve-sided objects, and not really round at all. Now, observe their sumptuous circularity.
Stickers now scale when the object they’re on is re-sized, saving you all a load of time. Which is good.
Improved overall stability. What we mean is that things should now do exactly what they should, as opposed to sometimes doing things that they shouldn’t (we think you know what we mean).
Support for the ‘Turbo! Premium Level Kit’.

New objects for free FTW!

Now it does state that the download is out now, but I have checked and it unfortunately isn't.
But I am sure it will be out quite soon in that case.

Circles = Win
Front View = Super Win
Stability = Thank God

Flip & Sticker features sound great too! Can't wait to get home from work

Must resist the urge to tear apart my existing levels and cram the new stuff in...

Ooh, just noticed they are referring to the Turbo Pack as a premium level kit.

I know we pretty much knew what it was but nice for confirmation

Party! I'm so happy they've finally realeased a new update! It' really annoying that they say it's out when it isn't, but I am hoping it should be out later today or tommorow!!
The Microbomb sounds a bit random as what I would actually like is a bomb that actually destroys part of the area around it. I suppose that might not happen as the psp would probably explode as well. It's nice to also have more functions that the ps3 had, like eyes and true circles, although I'm quite surprised that they didn't release it as DLC, because nearly everyone would buy it. Definitely worth the wait...I'm so exited....there isn't a word to describe it. How about Imsoexitedandicannotbelieveitomgimsohappythisisthe bestthingeverandihavenoideawhyimwritingareallylong wordwhichisbasicallyloadsofwordswithoutspaces. Yeah, how about that word?

You can already make bombs do that, if you think about it hard enough.

I'd be pretty angry if I had to pay for things that should have been there in the first place... so kudos to Cambridge for another great update... er, when it lands, anyway.

I stated in the OP that while the post states it is already out, that is not the case.
All we can do is just wait, try again later and repeat until it is released.

It's not released yet, contrary to what was posted on the LBP.com website, since it said it were already out at time of posting.

And that would be a first, updates getting a time slot. It's just whenever Sony pushes the update out.

Thats because they have to make time in their scedule to make sure its out in every country the game is in. It takes time to upload the update to everybodys PSP and people just need to be patient. So do not blame mnimmo for this issue of yours. :kz:

It might be a while yet... If they said it would be out immediately, but it's not, they're probably working on fixing it. But considering it's around 7 hours late, the problem might be pretty big. That being said, it could take another 24 hours or so. Maybe even longer. Just chill... go on a vacation to The Bahamas, then when you get back, it'd probably be out, eh? 2010-04-27 00:29:00

Seems to be a lot faster now actually but i will be the scape goat and test some levels to see of they break from this one. Also magic eyes rule.

No by predownload I mean it is there under purchased levels and you can see it but once you click it there is something about buying it from psn.

impossible its not on the psn YET! how and why do they do this to us? T.T they R playing with us!

ima have a serious talk with our fellow lbp producers and see what they have to say bout this! maybe they will give us all codes for the turbo pack cuz they made us look at the level section just to find out that we have to pay for the level just to be able to play it when we could have just waited till it comes out on the psn and then added it to the section in the first place! but i doubt they will just give it out to us but maybe a code for the level will probably be the thing they will do.

no it says u need to update it, just a simple flaw i think they will have to change and probably they will make the turbo pack playable just for our troubles when they re-call the update to fix this irratating problem >.>.

oh i found a bug major or temporarily. when u put a piston on a object and go to delete it the piston temporarily doesn't delete and then will turn invisible and will sometimes connect to a different object that u didn't want connected to.

Wow, I am late to this party Sometimes it really sucks being on the other side of the world since these big announcements happen right after I fall asleep :-P

Anyway, this is all ridiculously exciting. I mean, I would have never expected a new tool (!!!) along with many needed fixes (flipping objects!!!, Scaling stickers!!!!, MORE STABILITY!!!)!

Hopefully the kinks in the update get worked out (I probably won't download it for another 10 hours since I am busy all day).

It seems after the update community planet will not let me access it this sucks. Also it seems that the Turbo! pack will cost money and was predownloaded with the update.
And you expected a Premium Level pack from the "Purchased" Levels section to be free.

Also, just like other updates that contain DLC it alread patched in ready so that when you purchase the item from the store, all you are basically getting is an unlock code that allows you access to that data from the patch.

i hope when they re-call it we can play turbo when they are done fixing it just because we had to put up with not getting online.
Unlikely, the DLC data is patched in just like any other update before they release it generally on the store. They need to update the store first so you can buy it before you can play it.

That doesn't guarantee that it will get released this week on the store though, just that the data is there ready for when they do.

As for the on-line issues...
If they pulled the update, which means the server thinks that the latest update is 2.04, and with the user not matching as having that update because they are on 2.05 (i.e. not the latest patch even though it's one above) they aren't allowed online. Conflicting version info?

Just a thought.

For the record, the update is still available on the NA servers (I just downloaded it), and after I downloaded it I couldn't access the community moon anymore. It loads to the screen where it says it is loading the community moon (or something like that... It is the screen before it says that it is downloading news), and then it says that it cannot connect.2010-04-27 10:55:00

I went to update it, and It told me I was updated to version 2.04, not .05.

I can't find the Microbombs or eyes either, so that sucks :U

The community moon is telling me I need to update again, but when I try it tells me I have the latest version of the game...

To make you feel better Fastbro, I couldn't figure it out either. I'm not sure if it was added to PS3 after I left for China or what, but for some reason I had never hear of this. I could not figure out how to access it on PSP either. It took me forever to realize that I had to push start, then go into SETTINGS, and in there you can toggle it on and off. I agree with Salieri on the motion sickness comment. It is basically instant vertigo on command 2010-04-27 16:29:00

Poo, as far as I recall, front view has been in the PS3 version since day one.

It's amazing you got your creations so tight without it! I've been praying they'd add this feature to the PSP since day one, it makes life sooooo much easier.

These patch changes have improved so many things, I'm gonna have to go back and overhaul all my work I think...

mnimmo is it possible that cambridge would ever release level packs by codes? like send a code to a select few, probably by contests or some special events that require some sort of key example cambridge release a new level with a hidden key and when u find it a pop-up appears and u have to confirm ur email address and the first few who find it and confirm their email address get a code to unlock the level pack.2010-04-27 18:06:00

Has anyone noticed the 'purchased levels' option? It's really annoying because it says the Turbo pack, but it says you can download them off the store. I never thought they would include it with the update, but I think they're trying to get everyone to find out about it and buy it when it comes out. The Creator curators name is Robbo, which is quite interesting although that would suggest his a robot and I don't see how that would fit in with the levels we already know about.2010-04-27 19:12:00

The Creator curators name is Robbo, which is quite interesting although that would suggest his a robot and I don't see how that would fit in with the levels we already know about.

Though it does sound like it could be the case, the name does not invariably mean that the curator is a robot.

Yes, players are now capable of connecting to the LBP Servers.

Maybe the Curator's full name is:

"Robbo: The Amzaig DLC Curator That Was Actually Thought Up By Cambridge, And Not A Mm's LBP PS3 DLC Copy!"

When I create on the PS3 (which hasn't been in months now) I use front view a lot. A LOT. It's good for making sure layers line up properly. Say for example you want to make a doorway that faces sideways. Even though the front layer and back layer materials that make up the door frame do not touch, you can line them up perfectly using front view. This view is also good for zooming in a bit, particularly on things in the back layer. Mess with it for a while and I'm sure you'll find it useful.

In addition, removing the perspective of the 3D world can make it possible to corner edit with amazing accuracy.

mnimmo is it possible that cambridge would ever release level packs by codes? like send a code to a select few, probably by contests or some special events that require some sort of key example cambridge release a new level with a hidden key and when u find it a pop-up appears and u have to confirm ur email address and the first few who find it and confirm their email address get a code to unlock the level pack.
As with anything on the store, Sony can generate a code for it, however it's highly unlikely they would be given out this way if they ever did.

It would be all to easy to find the key and then share it's location.

Has anyone noticed the 'purchased levels' option? It's really annoying because it says the Turbo pack, but it says you can download them off the store. I never thought they would include it with the update.

That's how it's always been with DLC data.
Whether you buy the DLC or not all past and present DLC is sitting there in your PSP.
DLC data can be added weeks before the actual DLC (basically just an unlock code (see below for descripton)) is released on the store.

Think of it like this. A corridor full of rooms. In those rooms are each of the DLC's available, but are locked by big glass doors. You can see them, but unless you own the key to access the DLC (buying it off the store), that's all you can do is view them (playing levels that contain that DLC).
In the case of an update with more DLC, it's a case of adding an extra room on the end of that corridor with that DLC in there.
(I hope that made sense).

I mean how else is the game supposed to load a level that has DLC in it if it doesn't know how to load it because the data isn't there.

Why do you think you always have to have the latest update to use the community moon?

Always? Not quite... In fact, most games do not have the data included with the game, even via update. If this was the case, any game's DLC size would be negligible, and take nearly no time at all to download after purchase.

I mean how else is the game supposed to load a level that has DLC in it if it doesn't know how to load it because the data isn't there.

You have a good point there, but to answer this question we must first understand how level data works (which is difficult, since it's encrypted into an unreadable format by any known program except LBP itself). In most cases like these, only what's needed is downloaded to your PSP, i.e. only the objects featured in any given level. This data is stored in the level file itself, and recalled when the level loads.

To clarify my meaning, let's look at a hypothetical online FPS game as an example. Say someone has set up a server with custom sound files for when someone gets double kills, kill streaks, etc., that are different from the stock sounds. You don't need to have these sounds on your computer initially for it to work, because while connecting to the server it downloads all custom files to your game's folder. I would assume LBP is the same way. It might treat DLC items as custom objects created by the user (even though they're not), and download them as needed.

Why do you think you always have to have the latest update to use the community moon? Actually, I think this is more of a question of submitting outdated content to the community moon. Either that or it's that way just to ensure you have the update... and why not? If you can connect to the internet to download levels etc. you can clearly download the update.

This is only my deduction, which all revolves around the DLC file size and download time issue. As mentioned before, if all the "download" was is an unlocking of data already located on your PSP, all DLCs would have very small file sizes and take only a few seconds to download, if that (since they'd only be a few lines of code, nothing more). But then again, you may be right. LBP may operate in the way you said. However, my point is most games' DLC does not.

So guys I must ask is the crash bug fixed because I am still kinda scared of working a level and losing it all again.

As well as backing up data using media go, I suggest doing this:

For each level you're making, use several save slots (I personally use an entire 'crater' for each level I'm making). Every 30 mins I save and copy my file, naming them 1.1, 1.2, 1.3 etc... If one breaks, I can go back to the last one and only lose half an hour's work. Life saver.

Funny, I do the exact same thing. If there's a level slot in the dead center of the crater surrounded by several more (as was the case with my Akira bike entry for the YWMTMW? contest), I use that as my original, and surround it with the backups.

I am not, and was never talking about how other games decides to utilise the updates.
I were talking about how the updates work in LBP.

Now that you bring it up though Burnout Paradise was the same. All updates included the data and all you downloaded (when buying the DLC off the store) was an unlock file.

This data is stored in the level file itself, and recalled when the level loads.

We can argue all day over this, but no one knows for sure.

However with the levels being so small in size when downloaded, I hardly think they actually included the data needed for you to play them. Since the updates themselves that included the DLC data are around MB's in size rather than KB's like the levels.

Hence why you have to have the latest update to get the levels in the first place off the server, since the file you download gets the data it needs to run from the updated files that are already on your PSP.

I don't know if he has, but just because he knows a lot doesn't mean he has. But don't get me wrong, he very well may have.

I'm pretty sure mnimmo's assumptions about the DLC are correct... I've been involved with the production of several videogames though admittedly none of them featured DLC (this was some time ago!)

I haven't made a game, no.
Just observations really of why the DLC is always smaller than that of the actual "updates" (and other tidbits of info I've read in the past).

The other analogy about the rooms was just something I used a while ago to describe how the DLC works since people were asking why, if they are adding the DLC before they update the store why could they not "get at it".

I don't guarantee that it's all 100% fact, since I can't. But it's how I believe the DLC/Updates work and I stand by my words.
Of course, if I'm proved to be wrong, or someone challenges my ideas, well they are welcome to. Who knows, it may bring more insight to the topic since the idea they have may be coming from another angle. (As is in the case of the big reply from xero).

I sort of found a glitch by accident. It's only useful when you want to make stickers really small for detail. If you make all the stickers really big, then make the object that it's on smaller, then the stickers can get far smaller then it normally lets you. It's not that useful, but it can be useful for small detail.2010-04-28 20:09:00

Wow, so all this would then explain why downloading DLC takes about five seconds? It always goes super fast. Huh, this is annoying that me and the people I know don't have expertise about hacking PSPs, as now I'm curious about how we could steal DLC. Oh well.

Anyways, I like this update a LOT. Micro bombs will be a major help in making cool explosion effects, and though I might have not realized it if not for Taffey's post, front view will be helpful, and more than just a motion sickness button. I might find some fun uses for magic eyes too.

Pressing select,

As I mentioned, it was merely my speculation. I have never downloaded any of the packs for LBP PSP, so I was unaware of their file size or download times. My comments were based on past experience with data management, as I have absolutely no experience with LBP's systems or data. I wouldn't doubt it if you were 100% right about everything, in fact.

This is amazingly useful. I can use this for so many things... thank you for sharing this tasty tidbit! I intend to use this for my current YWMTMW? (https://lbpcentral.lbp-hub.com/index.php?t=25818--YWMTMW-Round-3-The-Next-Breakthrough-Video-Game-**Entries-Due-May-14**) contest entry!
