Charted: City Ruins

Archive: 24 posts

Alright, here I am again with yet another project. Should be a combination of a few of my last, half-finished projects. It starts with a ruined truck trailer, like in the Uncharted 2 Demo, but it changes from there. It puts you right in the middle of a city in ruins. I AM DETERMINED TO FINISH THIS!! It should take you through a city set ablaze and full of ASPLOSIONS! Got the concept and that looks good, just the gameplay and inspiration I'm still working on. Mostly platforming, like Uncharted, but not many (if any) shopting parts because the paintinator would fit terribly in this. Within the city, you will run into a little twist which will, hopefully, lead you into the next level of the should-be series. I'm not sticking with the story of Uncharted whatsoever, just gameplay and design. Not too far at the moment, but will be working on it. Tell me what you guys want in this, I enjoy input!

Quick Read:
-Loosely based upon Uncharted 2
-Will be mostly platforming
-Takes place in a ruined city
-Should turn into a two- or three-part series. If all goes well.
-I would enjoy suggestions. Especially from people who've actually played Uncharted 2.
-Just keep checking in here for updates!

Thanks!

Shooting across rooftops would be cool, and climbing buildings.
UC has a great cover system, try taking cover behind obscure things (an overturned truck for example?).
Lots of enemies and lots of explosions (grenades maybe)! =D
if you could pull off some innovative hand-to-hand combat then great, but I doubt it's possible.

Best of luck anyway!

Adding the effect of climbing buildings would be great. And open worldness would add that effect of "Where am I?". Cool idea, hope it works out for ya!2010-04-26 20:09:00

I was actually thinking of asking you if I needed help with characters! Thanks!

Hmmm... hand to hand combat sounds really interesting. It would be a great addition if I could pull it off. Any ideas on how to do it? Would be greatly appreciated!
As for enemies, I'm not sure if I'll be putting any in. At least in the first level. They just would not fit well in my opinion. Darting across buildings is what I've been working at right now. I'm not sure if you could call it "running," but its got some jumping and stuff like that.

Climbing buildings? Ruins of buildings you will be climbing! Haha! It's moslty linear, but its got some leeway. In other words, you'll be directed toward an objective/area, but you will be able to explore a bit while looking for some extra point bubbles if you want that high score.

Collapsing buildings, definitely. Hidden treasure, you'll have to see!

Thanks guys for the input! I'd like to hear some more about what you all want! I'll post some screenshots later on when I get a little further too! Be on the lookout!

Haven't a clue how you'd do hand to hand combat, sorry.

I would love seeing collapsing buildings in this. Also, if you want to have a boss, a helicopter would fit perfectly, as in the game. Making it feel like parkour would be even cooler. I like this idea.2010-04-28 00:20:00

half-finished projects
Piggabling I'm with you on this comment i have many and I mean many levels i begin and then stop because I think of another level idea to work on and then the older ones get left in the dust. Friend me "Bmoney2310" we can help each other focus on completing our levels. Oh cool level idea btw I would like to test it if you are allowing it to be shown.

Thanks guys! I'm working, yet slowing down a bit, for the weekdays have hit... Haha! I'm definitely going to try and get a collapsing building (or two, or three ;] ) and slower-paced parkouris kind of what I'm aiming for. The parkour style may not be what Uncharted was, but I'd like it to be that way in my level.

Screenshots and level testing opportunities will be coming in the following week, or months... Not accepting applicants now, though I will later on. :]

Also, does "Recharted: City Ruins" or "Charted: City Ruins" sound better? I can't decide... Please keep the suggestions and comments coming!

Recharted sounds more like Uncharted, I'd go with that.

Helicopter boss is an awesome idea, I'd love that.

Thanks! And just to let you all know, progress is a bit slow at the moment. Too much going on right now. I'll get about an hour's worth of creating during the weekdays. I'll slowly get there. Some platforming, some explosions. I hope I'm not getting everyone too hyped... Haha!

Suggestions are still helpful, everyone!!

So, does everyone else prefer "Recharted" over "Charted?" Just want to make sure..

Inlcude parkour style swinging sections, like, a mini rotational wheel that you grab and swing on that looks like a flagpole mounted on a building XD2010-05-01 21:23:00

I honestly thought of that same thing! I'm not sure how well it would actually fit in my level though. It doesn't look a city that's developed, or standing upright, enough to even have a flag pole... Hah!

Could you guys give me a length (in time) you believe the level should be? Maybe 5, 10, or 15 minutes?

hand to hand combat: playstation move + a hand shape with a mag key + an enemy triggered when hit repetedly.
also the twist should be this: you find out YOU destroyed the city and fainted so you now do not know who you are

Roguhly, around 8 minutes, 5 is too short, 10 may be a little long, it really dpends on what type of gamer your publishing your level to,

If it's going to be story heavy, 10-15 minutes is a good length, but dont expect to get 2 billion plays, a lot of people who play lbp are around 7-14, and most of those people (not assumeing everyone who this age is!) will most likely not pay attention to the story, and get bored halfway through!

If its more platforming, anything over 10 minutes sounds a little long, since i dont think even Media molecules levels are that long!

Sorry =for the duoble post, but i couldnt resist this suggestion!

You could have every enemy have a grab switch near thier necks, so when the sackperson grabs thier neck, they make a chocking sound, and die. (THis would be cracking necks, like you do in uncharted 2)

I uually like 9 or 10 minute levels, somewhere like that.

Also, something cool you could add, you have to get into an old rusty vehicle (possibly a tank) and use it to drive through buildings. I'm not sure if that would be a good idea, since it probably take up a lot of meter, and it wouldn't be very gameplay based, it'd just grabbing the steering wheel and watching some explosions.

By the way, I could test your level in the future.

Haha! Thanks for the suggestions guys! I think that somewhere between 7-9 minutes shouldn't be too hard to manage... And a tank sounds really nice! I'm not sure if I would be able to fit it in, let alone make it. Big stuff like that I don't really know how to do too well. I can make big logic gates and stuff but can be a bit uncreative.. 2010-05-02 19:52:00

Maybe ask some other people in the community to make a tank, and just add mag keys and other switches to make the buildings fall!2010-05-02 22:52:00

12 mins I'm a fan of longer levels but not too long. But if its good I'm cool with long levels. I like Charted better btw.2010-05-03 04:16:00
