Scoreboard won`t activate

Archive: 8 posts

Hey everyone,
I got a problem concerning the scoreboard:
As you can see on the pictures I want the scoreboard to be moved up in the room above by a piston after a short cut scene.

So far so good?
You enter the room, the cut scene starts, then the scoreboard comes up and then? NOTHING

You just can`t finish the level. The scoreboard does not activate by itself neither can it be activated by a switch. The only but really weird way is that all the players jump up at the same time (?????) cause this somehow activates the scoreboard?

I hope someone can tell me what I can do to fix that.
Thanks

Easy fix. The problem is that the scoreboard is to high up. That's why if everyone jumps at the same time, you'll all be high enough to activate it.

All you need to do is lower the scoreboard (put a little bit of it underground) or in your case make the maximum length on the piston lower.

oh that sounds easy, I`ll try that and hope it works then - if not - I'll be back
Thanks for the fast reply

So the maximum length of the piston was 96. I set it to 95 and tested it - nothing. then to 94 and so on all the way to 80 where the scoreboard-screen was already unterground and still nothing happend.

Maybe it has something to do with the angle of the scoreborad - has it got to be perfectly horizontal or doesn't that matter?
oh how I wish the solution would have been that easy...

It shouldn't have to do with the angle, but it does in some way have to do with triggering it. If down didn't work, try up. It can't hurt, can it? 2010-04-25 23:56:00

Is there anything between the players' bodies and the scoreboard? If they're blocked from it, it won't activate. You might hear the checkpoint sound come from it when they trigger its checkpoint, but it won't end the level.

It's actually not that simple. I can't remember exactly what will prevent a scoreboard from ending the level and what won't, but I do remember that it is possible to trigger it as a checkpoint without it ending the level and that it's by blocking it with objects or material. Seems to me that it was pretty specific which layers the material had to be in, though.

The key point of any scoreboard seems to be the base, the section between the wooden supports just under the middle of the screen. Often, if this is blocked off by anything in the layers in front the scoreboard refuses to operate properly. Ensure this is completely unblocked, and that sackboy has unrestricted access to the entire middle and bottom half of the scoreboard. Nothing invisible in the way?2010-04-26 10:39:00

Yeah you're right, I can hear the "checkpoint activation" sound but it won't end the level until you jump.

No it is nothing invisible there, just the front big layer on which the player stands on and the small handrail but that is completely in front and not between the player and the scoreboard. I'll try to edit this front layer with the corner-editing tool along the base of the scoreboard when it is in the up-position.

Thanks everbody for all your help, hope I can fix this now.
