Autosaver/ Copier

Archive: 8 posts

I'm not sure if this has been suggested before but I had a look at a few pages of threads and didn't see one. So here goes.

Ever been working on a very detailed or intricate part of your level, forgot to save, and then had something go wrong so you have to dismantle it and start from Step 1 all over again?

With this sugeestion, that would happen alot less often, I doubt it would completely eliminate the problem but it would sure help towards tackling it, much like paracetamol to a cold, it doesn't treat the problem itself, just the symptoms.

When you go select your level, you have the usual options of "Play", "Edit", "Delete" and so on and so forth, you also have the different sections of the popit you can go to by moving left or right. This idea would add another "section" to that part of the popit which would be called the "Autos" section. In that section you can enable or disable the auto save/copy options, and also tweak the frequency (Every 1, 5, 10, 30 ,60 minutes). If you enable the "Auto copy" option, it would zone out to your My Moon to allow you to choose which section of My Moon you would like the copy placing in. Once you have sorted all these out you can start editing your level, and whilst editing, every time the save/copy function occurs you will get a small message at the top of the screen, saying that your level has been saved and copied to the location you selected.

Anybody like the idea? Are there any ways it could be improved?

Fire away, constructive criticism preferred.

love the idea of an autosave although not so sure about the copying one, how would that help apart from using space on the moon, it seems a little futile .2010-04-25 22:14:00

Copying is for making backup levels, if the autosaver saved your level and copied it just before you made the mistake, you could to the copied version of the level and sort it out before the misatke occured, instead of having to delete it and completely rebuild it.

Great idea, especially the frequency option, cause the last thing I ever did when making a level, was saving it.2010-04-26 20:16:00

but to what end would this have any effect. does the rewind not work?

It's not just for that. It also for keeping a backup copy so you don't have to completely restart your level if the master copy gets corrupted.2010-04-26 22:32:00

Oh man, now you're even asking them to save for you?!
(not you specifically, you as in people in geneeral)
I mean, sure its not that bad of an idea, but i mean, saving its just one easy menu selection away.
And if it only saves in the backup, wouldn't that render the original useless?
Or would yo plan on keep making copiens on and on?
Come on, you just need to press X on the save/ save as button, is that so hard?
