Fiendsishly Fabulous Fun With Puzzels

Archive: 19 posts

Here are some truly enjoyable puzzles that are worth testing your self on. If you know the answers, don't give them away. Give someone else the chance.

Rising Tide
A rope ladder ten feet long is hanging over the side of a ship. The rungs are one foot apart and the bottom rung is resting on the surface of the water. The tide rises at the rate of six inches and hour. When will the first three rungs be covered with water?

Twelve Men And Eleven Rooms
Twelve men came to a hotel one night only to unfortunately discover that it had only 11 rooms vacant rooms. Why some one couldn't share a room i don't know. Maybe the hotel was out of cots and the rooms had single beds. Anyway, the desk clerk thought over the problem for a minute and then said to the first man "Mr.Smith, if you just wait in the bar while i show the others to their rooms. Then i will show you to yours." The clerk put the second man in the first room, the third man into the second room until the eleventh man was in the tenth room. The clerk then returned to Mr.Smith and said "Just step this way and i while show you to the eleventh room". What happened?

The Mysterious Order
At dawn on June 15, World War 2, a Sad Sack soldier was relived as sentinel after a ten hour shift while his friend Willy took over his post. Upon passing his Captain the Sad Sack said "Well, sir, late last night i dreamed we weren't going to win this war and my dreams always come true"
"Bah" said the Captain "We've got to win and we're going to win. For once your wrong" As the soldier made his way to the front gate however, the Captain said suddenly to the guards stationed there "Guards, throw that soldier into the brig" Why did the captain do this?

The Picnic
Two mothers and two daughters attended a picnic together. The main courses were hot dogs, hamburgers and grilled chicken, nothing more and nothing less- and yet they all managed to have something different. How is this possible?

I will post the answers in 4 days exceptions being that someone gets it right or requests a hint. Good luck.

I got the fourth one pretty quickly
I'm confused with the second one, I think I know what's going on but it seems too simple, I just wait for the answer.
Same with the first one, if it's just a maths question though, then I've got it.

If it was at dawn, and he had a ten hour shift, then his shift would have included last night... thus the solider would have been sleeping on the job.

There were three people- a grandmother, mother, and the daughter. the mother would have been the daughter to the grandmother and the mother to the daughter.

A ha, I get a cookie.

Number 2: Maybe the 12th man was the desk clerk himself so he didn't need a room in which case all the others got a room each.2010-04-28 02:46:00

Okay here are the answers:

Rising Tide: Congrats to chezhead for getting it right. The answer is never. Unless the boat is sinking, the ladder will rise with the ship which will rise with the tide.

Twelve Men And Eleven Rooms: Congrats to flamingemu for getting it right. This is a trick question. Mr. Smith is still the first person. He was put in the last room after the eleventh person so the clerk is still leaving the twelfth person without a room.

The Mysterious Order: Congrats to RockSauron for getting it right. The Sad Sack Solider had been sleeping thru his nightly guarding duties.

The Picnic: Congrats to RockSauron for getting it right again. There is a daughter, a mother who doubles as a daughter as well and a grandmother.
