Ashes to Ashes Part 3Whitemon
http://img718.imageshack.us/img718/1622/aphoto4.jpgA sequel to my first 2 levels. Ashes to Ashes and Ashes to Ashes Part Two. This series is based off scary games and movies like Silent Hill, The Grudge, and Fatal Frame. This is the first time I used 3d Tool. It was awesome building your own background. Recommended for 1 player but if more than 1 player, please stay together at all times.
Hello Everyone,

This is my 3rd level. The 3rd part to my series "Ashes to Ashes". Level's name is exactly Ashes to Ashes Part 3. My PSN is Whitemon. It was also my first time using the 3D tool. I was able to learn what it can and can't do because of this. It might be alot of reading for others. Please let me know if it's too much so I could tone down the text if I should. Also, please let me know if it's too dark for everyone. I'll lighten it up if majority says so.

It's recommended for 1 player but if there's more than 1 player, please make sure to stay close to each other so it won't mess up the camera angles. For the best experience for the story, please play the 2 prequel levels (linked below).

Any helpful feedback is accepted and really appreciated. Here are some more screenshots. Thank you for your time! I hope you have fun playing my level as much as I had fun building them!

Wow this level looks very awesome. Gonna play it soon. lol everytime I read the title I get "House of Wolves" stuck in my head.

And I said, ashes to ashes, we all fall down,
I wanna hear you sing the praise,
I said, ashes to ashes, we all fall down,
We got innocence for days!

Nope, have never played Gears of War. Ashes to Ashes is just title I thought of that fits.
I played Dead Memories and that was awesome. I have it hearted too but I never thought it would look the same so I thought I'd play it again to see what you mean but it's locked for some reason.

Don't feel bad about the lack of response... The forum is odd about what they seem to go crazy over...

Your level is one of my favorite uses of the 3D glitch.

The checkpoints... Sort of bring you out of the level with the random logo. Maybe make them blend with the rest of the level?
Seems distracting to tell players to grab the light to swing...
The red figure is legit creepy every time it pops up. Good job on that.
Might want to make the first two red figures disappear in the hopsital after you first go past them - when backtracking to the the magic green circle, it seemed odd to have them in their original locations.
Love the stairwell.
The spooky city after the part of the storeroom disappears looks awesome... Why leave the hook green though?
The thing that happened in the power generator room made me jump big time. Congrats on having the first LBP level that's ever scared me.
Good job with the look on the silent hill-ified top floor.

Just finished... loved the look and feel of the level. Great city scene... Well done hopsital... The whole thing made me feel like I wasn't playing LBP.
Only 2 more suggestions...
1 - There didn't seem to be anything hidden... anything else to do beyond getting from point a to point b. A hidden area or two seem like they'd increase the fun factor.
2 - There was no big payoff at the end. I get that this is supposed to be a part of a series, but after building tension for the entirety of the level, I was waiting for something really crazy to happen at the end. I guess we'll see when part 4 comes out...

Overall, really cool stuff dude. Would love it if you could check out my new level "Dark Side of the Rainbow". Link is in my sig.

edit: just went back and tried the first Ashes to Ashes... you've come a heck of a long way with your creation abilities.

Thank you so much for the feedback. I wanted to add a lot more. I had lots of ideas but I was playing in the boundaries of overheating. The whole town/city itself took half of the thermometer possibly because of how complex the houses and buildings has become. But now that the town was done, I can just concentrate inside the hospital itself on the 4th series. I will definitely take into account everything you said and will change a lot of the stuff you suggested.

I'll play your level now and give feedback asap. Thanks again!

Updated based on most current feedback.

Colored hook to brown instead of it being plain green,
Made some stuff vanish as suggested,
Removed magic mouth that seems to distract from platforming
And camouflaged all, if not, most of the checkpoints so as not to detract from the experience.

It was very cool level all along. You really used 3d glitch well and it had the great atmosphere from beginning to the end. Gameplay was little empty but visuals fixed that problem. One thing still bothers and that's the story. I didn't play 2 first parts so it didn't open up to me. :star::star::star::star: I think I'll check out next part if there's gonna be one. My f4f level is https://lbpcentral.lbp-hub.com/index.php?t=25912-The-Cellar-(Screenshots) so check it out!2010-05-02 08:49:00

Hi Whitemon.

Playing as typing.
NICE intro!
OOOooo...LOVED the 3d road and the ghostie!
NOT too dark, and nice to see a large amount of text!
Wow again at the hospital!
Whats with the green dissolve tube you have to drag to the door to open? It didn't explain what it was (Apart from a block of dissolve that has a key on it)

GRRRR!!! I am assuming the green dissolve key tube thing will unlock the morgue door right? (cant find another way) I have been trying for 15 minutes to get that BLASTED thing up the steps!....given up sorry........ahhhh...found it (Not going to give it away) Suggestion: make the key dissolve to stop confusion here.

Love the following candle.
(got goose bumps...weird......scared from LBP????...am I going soft?
LOL at the morgue....didnt scare me at allllllllllllllllllllllll!!!! NOT
BRILLIANT elevator scene!
Hard to get the colored rolls in the correct hole at the puzzle at the end.
As Mr radical pointed out, the ending is kind of an anti climax....i get that it will continue, but maybe just a little more story line to finish on a cliff hanger ?

OK this deserves a proper scoring:
Out of 10. Graphics: 9.3 (fantastic 3D use)
Gameplay 8.7 (I got frustrated with the dissolve key trying to get it up the stairs.
Length: 9.4
Originality 9 (though I have played other creepy LPB games, this still wove a great atmosphere.
9.1, GREAT score, well done (In little big planet terms I gave you 5 stars and a heart!)

If you could F4F my game "Spider mech tank walker" I'd appreciate it.

Thank you so much. I'm surprised that you thought the cylinder was going to unlock the morgue. That was actually my first idea but I saw how a huge pain it was to push up the stairs so I scrapped the idea. Based on your feedback, I now made the cylinder disappear and while I was at it, I changed the shape of it and put stickers on it so it's not a plain green cylindrical dissolve material anymore.
Part of the puzzle too for the colored rolls was putting them in order too so putting the others on their places, especially the black one would be easier based on which ones you put on the hole first .

Thank you so much. I had a lot of ideas but Thermo was at 98% so I had to stop from there. This was my first time trying out and using the 3d glitch so I was still exploring it while I was making this level. But now that I know what to do, there should be alot more twist and turns and jumping and puzzles on Ashes to Ashes 4 (Ashes 4 Ashes ) actually when I finally make it.

I have reviewed your level and found it excellent, do perfectly recreated scenes of secrecy and fear of failure using 3D is very good, all the background details, the use of low light and candles have a perfect environment, is one of the best levels I've played of this type, the recreation of the spirit that appeared everywhere is really scary and spectacular.

It is a standard that has taken time and congratulations for having achieved so masterly a level of fear that keeps you totally glued to the controller to know what will happen later, I gave you :star::star::star::star::star:

The atmosphere is excellent, and the use of the layer glitch is spectacular. My only quibble is with the text; there's too much of it. In the end, it detracts from the incredibly creepy atmosphere. For example, instead of 'you found a journal', how about "Candles... blood.. why?" without any exposition. This allows for the horror to build in the player's mind, instead of telling them everything.2010-05-11 09:30:00

Thank you everyone . I really appreciate all the comments. I've republished the level with a few tweaks. Mainly the part about the journals. I removed most of the "You see a journal" parts, so the texts are at least a little bit more bearable now hehe.2010-06-06 06:51:00

Amazing. One of the few levels to really get tension think and suspense built efficiently. The narration is sublime. You made my sackperson speak. You made him give his opinions on it. Usually, I really hate that. You did it in a way... How do I put it.. You did it like you were giving an experience. Like this was really happening, and your sack person says this because I made him to be in MY world. I loved it. It never annoyed me, ever.

The ending seems sort of anti-climatic. No big scare?
Your doors going both long ways and short ways made it seem like I was really in a building. I never lost that feeling.
When the music started after the generator, I was relieved. Anything to alleviate the HORRIBLE calm. And that's a bad thing. I wanted to stay creeped out. especially since there was nothing at the end D:

Overall, 5 stars and a HUGE heart for your level and YOU.
Two recommendations:

1)In the beginning, when you're showing of the logo, elongate the box the player is in. It gives it a more realistic feel because, despite we playing as short sackpeople, we are still human and identify with a rectangle for us to be inside. Anything small enough to stand in, but not really move, adds a hidden layer of fear.

2)Play the level: Tenement if you haven't already. It's the only thing that beats out yours for top Scariest in my mind .

Feedback for my level? I hope I built an atmosphere as dense as yours Feral Tech: 90% (https://lbpcentral.lbp-hub.com/index.php?t=27419-Feral-Tech-90)

Wow, cool levels. Was trying to find where this topic went. Thought it got deleted hehe. Thank you so much everyone. Couldn't have reached this without all your help.

Thank you for all the feedbacks so far. I apologize for the late feedback on your levels. My friend borrowed my copy of LBP for the week so i won't be able to give back feedback until next week. I apologize but I promise I should be able to give feedback ASAP next week as soon as he gives me back my game.
