Automated vehicle moving and stopping

Archive: 4 posts

Ok I'll get straight to the point. I have a car that is automatically moving across my level by them means of a piston with dissolve on the end pushing a 3 way switch up in the sky in dark matter(I'm talking about the thing many people use to make vehices go forward and backward using grab switches). In this level i need the car to stop on an elevator, then when the elevator hits the bottom for it to start going again. What I was going to do was have the thing pushing the 3 way switch dissolve, but then it wont move anymore. Any ideas on how to make it automatically move, then stop, then move again?

Thanks

I do this by creating a a piece of dark matter, with several pieces of dissolve attached to it vertically. I create a box on top of the dissolve with a mag sensor that controls the car. Then, on the first piece of dissolve I put a mag switch, so the car will go. When the car reaches the point you need it to stop, a mag sensor on the floor picks up on the mag switch on the car, making the piece of dissolve with the mag sensor disappear. The box, with the mag sensor that's controlling the car, drops onto another piece of dissolve. This piece does not have a switch on it, so the car stops.

To make the car go again, when the elevator reaches the top, once again a mag sensor is activated and the piece of dissolve holding up the box is dissolved. The box drops onto another piece of dissolve with another mag switch on it, and the car goes again!

Hopefully you see what I mean, just tell me if you need any more clarification.

What I was going to do was have the thing pushing the 3 way switch dissolve, but then it wont move anymore. Any ideas on how to make it automatically move, then stop, then move again?

Here is how I would do this:

First, I would begin with a Three-Way Control from the LBPC Intermediate Logic Pack (https://lbpcentral.lbp-hub.com/index.php?t=18579-Intermediate-Pack-Overview). This would be used to control the car: activating one (directional) winch causes it to move forward; activating the other causes it to move backwards; no input stops the car in place.

Then, I would have the input for the forward-direction winch on the Three-Way Control come from a 2-input AND Switch from the LBPC Beginner Logic Pack (https://lbpcentral.lbp-hub.com/index.php?t=18576-Beginner-Pack-Overview). One input to the AND Switch comes from whatever normally makes the car go forward (grab switch, proximity switch, etc.). The other input to the AND Switch comes from an *inverted* magnetic switch mounted on the car somewhere --> as long as that magnetic switch on the car remains inactive (no key nearby, so 'lit up' in inverted mode), the car can move forward.

Any time you want the car to stop, have it pass over a strategically placed magnetic key. When you're ready for it to move forward again, remove the magnetic key (piston controlled, mounted on dissolve, whatever method you prefer).

Best of luck,

Thanks guys. I tried both ways and duffluc's way took up less thermo space so i used it. Thanks a lot, I couldn't continue without it.2010-04-22 20:48:00
