Fixed Camera?

Archive: 10 posts

I'm trying to create a scrolling camera that keeps moving right where the sackboy has no power in controling the camera. Some Mario levels do this quite frequently, and I've seen this before on LBP levels so I know it's possible. Does anyone know how? It might be called a fixed camera but I really don't know.2010-04-22 00:26:00

I'm not sure on this... but I think it has something to do with the photo booth camera. When it's active, you can't be outside the screen or your timer will start. The question is how to keep it from not taking a picture, but instead stay in one place? You might be able to achieve this by rapidly turning it on and off or something lol. I'll try it next time I'm on because I was recently thinking of building one as well.2010-04-22 03:48:00

I would think you will need some kind of sack tracker. Something with proximity switches that would move left or right as needed with a camera attached (like a wheeled camera vehicle in a layer out of sight).

But I'm just speculating. I'm sure you'll be able to find someone who has actually built one.

I take it you mean a side scrolling type of level? Where if you don't keep up with the camera and go off screen you die?

Make a wheeled vehicle off camera, attach the camera to it, and put gas around the borders of the screen where the player cant see it and attach it to the cart. Make sure the camera has player tracking turned right down, when the cart moves, so does the camera and gas, killing the player when they are off screen. Theres probably a much more elegant way to do it but that will work.

Directional piston

Yep you just use the normal camera object, set to zero follow, gas around it, and move it in whatever manner suits your needs.

As for photo booths, I don't know that you can turn them off once you've turned them on, whether connected to a on/off or a one-shot input. Once the photobooth has been turned on, I think it remains on until it has taken its picture.

As for side-scrollers, search "LBP PSP" - there should be several good levels based on this technique.

Oh, that's what it's called, side-scrolling camera. Thank for all the help! 2010-04-23 00:27:00

It depends on the size of the level rtm, they only go to a thousand, I thought of that first 2010-04-23 10:51:00

If you connect them at a distance further than 1000 then it forces the max distance. You can't alter it, but there are plenty of ways of dorcing it to stop.

In fairness the car gives so many more options for something like this (raising / lowering, speed control etc.) so in many cases it will actually be preferable

I'd use a photo booth instead of a camera-zone because when going to the edge of a camera-zone's camera, it will follow the player, screwing things up. Just set the timer of the photo booth to something pretty long.2010-04-23 21:09:00
