Impact/Touch Switch

Archive: 3 posts

I was in need of sthing like this just the other day. The basic principle would be that when the material which the switch is attached to, has contact w/ sackboy the switch will activate. obviously the options of the switch would stay the same (on/off, directional, oneshot etc)
This would be used in circumstances which two layers are together yet u only want one of them to activate a switch which is why a proximity switch would render useless.

I don't know if you are familiar with the PS3 version of LBP, but you could sort of fake something like this on there, though there wasn't any sort of material switch that you speak of.

When the Metal Gear Solid pack came out for LBP PS3 (around January '09 I think), it had a Spotlight which worked as a switch that could be set in a single layer. So you had a light that was in a layer that could be shined down on an area, and if the player stepped in that light it would trigger it and it could be used as a switch.

Obviously this doesn't help you at all, but I just figured I would mention it so that you saw that this sort of thing exists on PS3, and maybe that gives hope that they would include it in PSP. Since they seem to have brought certain things from PS3 over that were added later to the PS3 version (things that weren't in the original retail copy on PS3) like the ability to set tools such as pistons to be invisible, and they added extra functionality to materials like the ability to make them static, I'm a little surprised that they didn't add in a 1-layer switch to make up for the fact that we didn't have the Spotlight from the MGS pack. I assume that they couldn't use the spotlight since they don't give us any lighting controls, but it would have been nice if we could have something else to make up for it.

Ok, I'm done talking now
