Puzzle construction

I was just wondering how people come up with new and interesting simple/complex puzzles? I am making a new fantasy level about a wizard who controls the weather systems of the surrounding area. he goes missing and the wether stays endlessly night time.2010-04-20 19:56:00

A local inventor has managed to draw up the blueprints for an invention called the "anti-solar panel" which is able to produce light from darkness, but he doesn't know where to get the components to make it. You can hide components around the level with tasks and challenges to attain them. That's all I can think of atm2010-04-20 22:09:00

well I was not asking for ideas... Though pete, I had not thought of that. I was just wondering how people create new and wonderfull puzzles...

Ali -
1.Wasteland where everythings died e.g. dead trees, grass, locals strugling to survive...
2.No - I hope it will look a bit like sackboy/girl wearing a wizard costume
3.The night day change is based on a piston pulling a sheet of background..

I can't say much more about the story because I wan't it to be a bit of a suprise... Although, it is the best level I will ever make beause:
A) ali's enviroment tutorial
B) Its got a story that keeps developing and changing in my head... Oooo a new idea!

If you need help on the wizard, ask Salieri, he is really good at making sackboy sized characters.2010-04-21 23:07:00

ok try make puzzles that fit in with ur wasteland environment. i suggest copying other ppls puzzles then developing them into a wasteland theme

oh ok. the reason i asked is because i have a wizard i just made(not sackboy size tho)

hmmm so youd need to keep the back layer reserved for that?

Well since you're using that kind of day/night mechanics, you probably will have a hard time using the thinnest back layer.

For puzzles?
Since it's a Wasteland sort of thing and along with Pete's idea of retrieving the parts for the "Darkness Panel" here is some puzzles I can think of:

Once you find all the parts, invent a puzzle where you have to put them together to build the "Darkness Panel" That's one puzzle.

How about a crane that you use to pick up broken building parts?
You can use the crane to stack broken parts of buildings and make stairs to move on with the level.

Hmm, that's all I can think of.
